Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Really good accommodation in terms of social life, lots of parties etc. However, if you’re looking for accommodation that looks nice and is kept on top of in terms on maintenance then this isn’t the place for you. Accommodation services are bad for responding to maintenance reports and the building in general is old and you will inevitably break something, accident or not. If you’re looking for an amazing social life and aren’t that bothered by mess then this is perfect, but if you’re a tidy person and prefer peace and quiet then don’t live here.
Helvellyn may look pretty on the outside, I always liked the look on tourists faces when I walked into the big slate mansion, on the inside however it's kind of a mixed bag, the rooms vary in size from Ball room to broom cupboard on every floor and the walls are so thin you can hear everything that happens in the house everywhere, but the nice thing about Helvellyn especially in a global pandemic, is as well as a roof over your head it'll also give you a social life too without really trying. Plus it's cheap
Considering how cheap the accommodation is I’d say it worth the money if only problems would get sorted faster as everything tends to break very easily.
Over lockdown I feel like everyone in my accomodation cane together and we all became much closer. I still see most people in Helvellyn as my second family to this day.

Betwixt the mountains I finally found it... they said it was lost to history... but there it was... The Ket Kingdom Of Helvellyn!
Sesh palace, the place you want to be.
F****** terrible
Rats, weed, flooding, single glazing, the occasional ceiling falling in, and The Notorious V.I.C. - a strangely fond experience, with hilarious memories I will cherish for a long time. If you want some polished, put together student pad then definitely steer clear of this place entirely. But if you want something a little different to tell the Grandkids, then welcome to Hel! It's a s*******, but you'll learn to miss it.
Ambleside is great the cleaners never cleaned the accommodation officer was terrible there was no common room in this halls and the one in Fairfield was locked and has nothing in it and the wifi was awful
