Do not live here if you want to keep your sanity. I hardly slept for the entirety of living in Carrock halls, the walls are thin and the doors are loud. Absolutely every noise can be heard, and the bangs of the doors continuously through the night is scary! The rooms and kitchen are so dirty no matter how much you clean them, and the location is depressing. So happy I never have to return.

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Agree re cleaning, appreciate it is communal but janitors should at least empty bins and clean kitchen weekly. One day l arrived the place stank like a dump, bins overflowing and leaking you could almost see the germs having a party - gross! Agree also with review about unfriendly staff, add a rude and lying manager, but there was one very good staff member but needs to learn to let colleagues do their own dirty work and not be used as cover on their behalf. Agree also student union is RUBBISH!!! No wonder there's never anyone in the office if they're out encouraging others to go out drinking all the time. Agree internet via ethernet only or pay for the private WiFi which is discrimination when students in other halls gets it free. Student union should be screaming about this not getting drunk in pubs! Trying to think of something positive but struggling - ah yes, location ace, my room was warm and bed comfy.
There's no communal space for everyone, other than the kitchen, which would be nice and one of the accommodation officers isn't very nice at all. Also they don't do any cleaning and complain when the kitchen is clean.
Not worth the amount you pay hated living in them.
hated it but made good friends was sad to leave them behind.
You pay for the whole academic year, at not a too bad of a price, but paying this money you would think that the radiators would work when you move in, that there is a grill handle included when there says there is one and for the oven to work correctly. The rooms are a nice size The bathroom could be a little bit bigger e.g the size of the sink and shower but very nice overall and manageable.
Very convenient to be on campus and close to town meaning theres no need for a taxi on a night out. As for nightlife everyone who likes to party seems to stay at Denton- Carrock is definitely quieter.
Overall okay experience for my first year at university. Didn't really like being put with people on my course as it meant seeing one another constantly and caused a lot of drama. Also I said I wanted to live in a mixed sex flat and was put in an all female flat which was awful, so b***** and nasty and met people who I never ever want to see again which shouldn't happen in halls at all. Value for money is okay, en suite but a double bed would be better. No wifi just a Ethernet cable so had to constantly be sat at desk to use the internet. Brilliant location on uni campus, very clean blocks. Social experience what you expect for uni in Cumbria haha. Communal kitchen okay, could use an extra oven and fridge/freezer as seven people to one oven is quite a lot. Overall okay experience in carrock purely due to the people I was placed with but it is a risk you take.
The majority of my time on halls wasn't enjoyable. It cost too much for very little; limited cleaning facilities, no WiFi (we had to go through ethernet) and nowhere near enough events for non drinkers. The kitchen equipment was very dated and it was a struggle to get new appliances. Student reps arrived at halls a lot to get first years to go out drinking, but as a quiet person who really did not want to, I felt I was pressured to the point of locking myself in my room. However, the location was very good and the kitchen area was big enough for the amount of residents per flat.
It has good and bad sides The en suite bedrooms are a bonus however the social side of the halls are not very accommodating
