Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
en-suite, on campus, lovely atmosphere, only downside is the price!
Fantastic location & price, Lacks social space other than kitchens but otherwise a fantastic, very very recently refurbished building!
Very social halls. Rooms small but ensuite is always a bonus. Kitchens are large which is great for socialising and makes up for small rooms. Loved my time in this hall.
Location is perfect, bedroom and hallway good condition but kitchen disgraceful for price paid. A common room of sorts for each 10 flats would be brilliant
Good quality rooms and bathrooms. Kitchen can be slightly cramped and other flats have more space in each room.
Very average, not the best for being social
The internet is a shambles, the cleaners do very little, and £130 a week for a room smaller than rooms for a similar price is annoying. The location is amazing and living with twelve people means there has to be someone you get along with.
I had some good time in Paston House
Having to walk up 4 flights of stairs every day is a killer
So much better than I expected halls to be! The only down side is the bed which isn't the most comfortable or sturdy as they are just metal framed camp beds but all the other positives greatly outweigh this one negative! Close to the medical Center and laundrette with very quick and easy access to the square, sport park and the bus stop.
Expensive for whats provided, daily bin change and weekly en-suite clean are great! Would recommend if maintained better
very lovely cleaner, came every day and chatty with us, great people met in halls and good location on campus
The Uni provide an excellent environment for students to share the Flat. We have the right ratio of local students and international students because of the school policy
Pastor house was great for everything, your own private space but also a really communal kitchen which really gave the best of both worlds!
Really good, although was very high price, with no social space outside of a kitchen. Had an amazing time there though and cleaning staff are friendliest women ever.
