Q&A

Q
Does anybody know if i can order my things to the Britten reception? I’m arriving on a Saturday and the post office will probably not be working that day, and I need my things the same day

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation

What tenancy length do I need?

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.

Should I stay in catered student accommodation?

This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.

What is a guarantor and do I need one?

A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.

Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?

Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.

What bills will my rent include?

If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.

What is purpose-built student accommodation?

Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.

Will my student accommodation be furnished?

Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

I was in the very first block of Britten house and the location is fantastic - so close to all my lectures, seminars, the library, etc. I just wish we had one more oven...

Britten House has been amazing to live in! Great location so near to the shop, lcr, bus stop, sports park and other blocks. Bathrooms cleaned every Wednesday, and kitchens on Monday and Thursday. The cleaning staff are so lovely. The social life is what you make it, and I'm lucky enough to have great flat mates and great friends across the hall. My only criticism is it's difficult fitting all 8 of us round the table, so I guess he social space could be better.

Only communal area is an old kitchen which is extremely depressing. Living on campus means you're ages away from Norwich and you're stuck in your room most of time. Every wednesday you are woken up at 9am for your bathroom to be cleaned.

I lived in Britten House for only 2 months at the end of the year because of unforseen circumstances. Loved how close it is to the shop and the library, bustops and the sportspark - very conveniently placed. It felt more sociable that the halls I was previously in because it was opposite Patson House, and nearby to Coleman ad Victory etc. I feel like this would have been a really sociable area during freshers week and every flat seemed to know each other. Rooms were a decent size and so was the ensuite. Kitchens were big enough for a flat of 8 and cleaned 2x a week by a cleaner.

It's pretty good, Toilets cleaned once a week and kitchen cleaned twice a week. Socially it's what you make of it, for some reason the parties aren't as mad as Ziggs but they can get pretty good. More or less right next to everything. Whether you are put in Colman, Britten or Paston won't make much difference. Only downside is there are no lifts.

It's an okay Hall for the price, lacks a lot of common things like an oven and it can get dirty at times.

Well this was my second choice, I'm not sure if I'd have preferred my choice (Ziggurats), however my great experience in this accommodation is mainly due to my flatmates.

It's good and has great people, except for the one non-fresher in a flat with loads of freshers killing the mood a lot. That, and the fact that the kitchen doesn't seem to have actually been cleaned in the 2 weeks we've been here?
