Constable terrace is a great accommodation for some people, First things first, the location, 7min walk to the square, right outside a 25 bus stop that goes straight to the city in 20minutes. The bathrooms get cleaned every 2 weeks, kitchen cleaned every week. But here comes the bad bits, firstly, flats 1-25 i think, all have flats that go upwards. This means if your on the top floor, enjoy climbing up and down two flights of stairs just to get a glass of water. And if your on the bottom floor, enjoy hearing people climb up the stairs. The walls are stupidly thin, so if you have a flatmate that likes to play games, you definitely wont get any sleep. The accomodation is always way too hot for some reason, and you cant leave your window open as you wont get any sleep from all the people screaming their heads off outside. You can hear pre's going on from the kitchen, 2 floors above, good luck getting any sleep. Overall, great for extroverts, for introverts, not so great

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation

What tenancy length do I need?

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.

Should I stay in catered student accommodation?

This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.

What is a guarantor and do I need one?

A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.

Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?

Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.

What bills will my rent include?

If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.

What is purpose-built student accommodation?

Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.

Will my student accommodation be furnished?

Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

This accommodation definitely has more cons than pros. The main con is the price. If you’re living in one of the en-suite rooms it’s going to cost you almost the same as those in Hickling and Barton who have 5x nicer accommodation. The kitchen is relatively small and there isn’t much space to store your items other than a medium sized cupboard. There is one freezer between 10 people and so it’s hard to find space. The university don’t provide a proper oven and instead give you a 2-in-1 microwave oven which is the same size as a standard microwave and expect you to make do with that, even though only one person can use it at once. A test fire alarm will wake you every Thursday morning at 9am if you’re asleep. The cleaner comes every Monday and Thursday and so you need to move all your items from your kitchen side out of the way for her. We forgot to do it just once and she came to all of our rooms and threatened us with a £30 fine.

Over-priced for what it is. Really poor WiFi, poor communal areas.

Bedrooms are much bigger than many of the rooms on campus. Some flats have a balcony off the kitchen which is great. It’s also right next to the sainsbury centre and close to the lake. Only downsides are the noise from the construction site opposite and the distance from things like the laundrette.

I lived in Constable Terrace for the majority of the year before moving to different halls on campus due to unforseen circumstances. The rooms in CT are definitely the biggest and brightest on campus, however room sizes in the same flat and between flats do differ slightly. The ensuite was great and did the job, and the storage space was the best out of all UEA accommodation. The rooms did get a bit hot in the warmer months though so I would advise buying a fan. CT flats are arranged on 3 levels, more like a house than a conventional flat, this has its advantages because it kept each floor quieter and we would have fun games of mattress surfing. The kitchens were big and spacious, but didnt have an oven and should have had a least 2 microwaves because it can get a bit hectic when 10 people are cooking at the same time. CT is located opposite the medical school, on the other side of campus to other accommodation and amenities such as the SU shop, the Hive, and the Library.

The rooms are really large with a decent sized en suit bathroom. The majority of the flats are laid out over 3 floors unlike some accommodation which isn't as social, however most people just congregate in the kitchen. The kitchens are fairly large however there is not enough fridge and freezer space really. The facilities in the kitchen are good though and the microwave ovens adore just as good as a normal oven! Would be nice to have an extra space to chill out though. The location is really nice close to the lake and sainsburys centre however it is quite a walk to the laundrette. Kitchens get cleaned twice a week and bathrooms twice a week which is good! Overall it is probably the best accommodation on campus just a little pricey!

Constable Terrace has some of the biggest rooms on campus. However its quite far from the other halls and only has one fridge per 10 people in a flat.

Curved building seems to amplify sound. Generally nice large rooms but kitchens are poorly equipped with 1 fridge and 1 freezer for 11 people. No social area to sit other than the kitchen table so a little disappointing for £130 a week

Nice but far from center of campus, less social as well, but that really depends on the flat and your flatmates really.

At the time I lived here, we had wired ethernet cables. There is now WiFi, lucky people! The cleaners are superbe, the accommodation is on the expensive side but 100% worth having a larger room with en-suite! It's far enough from the LCR that you don't hear any of the noise but also close enough to campus that a quick stop by the shop isn't horrible to think about!

Albeit the most isolated accommodation on campus, Constable is located next to the UEA lake which has beautiful views, next to the Sainsbury Art Centre, has its own bus stop (basically dropped at my front door), is only 5 minutes walk from the shop and the rest of campus, so still get all the good stuff without the noise and disruption of the LCR. Rooms are bigger than others as are the kitchens, and the house is laid out better than the others too. Best spot on campus!

A little bit expensive, but a lovely spacious room. Could also do with a few more things in the kitchen such as a real oven and maybe another fridge. But i think its a great location, not too far from anywhere on campus

Our cleaner is fantastic! She does a great job and also speaks to us and engages with us. However, the cost of living here is the major downside. £610 a month is absolutely scandalous considering there isn't much to show for it except you get your own bathroom.

My room was very spacious, light, and airy, with a fantastic view looking out onto the sainsburys centre and greenery. I could see bunnies from my window at all times! It was expensive, but I'd say it worked out at about worth it for the price. My room was large, had en suite, and cleaning came in daily to empty bins, and once a week to clean my bathroom. Cleaning staff were very friendly! Socially the terraces were great, meant you had to mix with people and see them in the flat. The kitchens gave us space to congregate and have fun, and we often moved everything around to give us more space for things like playing twister (which was better than it sounds)! Overall, great experience, would recommend halls to anyone interested.
