I go to Durham University. It may come as strange for to be living in Newcastle. However when you look at the prices of Durham accommodation being £190 or more a week for quality similar to college I wanted to avoid that. However a friend of mine found this place which was only £140 a week. Even with commute it's an extra £6 a week because of bus rides. This accommodation although isn't as good as my 1st year college accommodation is still really good. It feels nice and comfortable. There's also lots of things to do in Newcastle so I'm quite happy with the location. Overall so far this year has been a pleasant experience.

Barker House Biography
Barker House is conveniently located for both students of Newcastle University and the University of Northumbria which are both within a fifteen-minute walk from the accommodation building. You’ll find supermarkets nearby as well as an array of shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs all within walking distance.
There’s a selection of en suite rooms to choose from that are in cluster apartments, where a kitchen and living room are shared with flatmates. Rooms are modern and come fully furnished with a bed, study area and storage as well as a plasma TV in each room. There are also great amenities to make everyday living easy, such as secure bike storage, laundry facilities and WiFi.
When it comes to chilling out Barker House has a number of communal spaces to make use of. There is a fantastic common room with a TV and table tennis and when the weather is fine you can make use of the sunny garden. For added convenience, there is a study area and all utility bills are included in the rental price. To ensure you are well looked after there is on-site maintenance, CCTV and an on-site biometric entry system.

Hi, is there on a dryer on site? Are utilities included in rent? It is not clear if the en suite room includes a shower or bath, can you clarify that for me?

Hi, yes all utilities are included in the rent and there is a washing machine and dryer in each flat so you don't have to pay extra for them. Each room is an ensuite which stands for room with shower and toilet facilities

For the price, it's absolutely exceptional. I've had my friends over for parties on the common room before and they always love it. I don't need to leave to do my washing, which some of the uni accomidations make you do, as well as pay for it. The room is spacey, which is amazing, and you get an ensuite too. Fran, the receptionist, is amazing. She really cares, she's gotten to know practically everyone and has organised two events now, with many more coming, and she's really working on making Barker House really communal and friendly.

Nice accommodation. The best part is it’s close to my university and I literally leave my place 10 mins before the class
It's been really good! The common spaces are really nice, the workers are really sweet and welcoming, and very helpful. She threw a welcoming party and it's been really fun!! Oh and Fran >>>>>>>
Fran is great with organising social events, including bubble tea day and a sip and paint night :)
The social space is nice and clean. The rooms area good size. The lift is always broken which is annoying but apart from that there’s no major problems.
Convenient location for university, lift hasn't worked most of the year and it took months to get our hoover replaced
Great value for money, kind staff!
In general the accommodation is very good. It’s at a good location for both Newcastle and Northumbria and it’s at a good price. This year though there have been lots of issues with the lift which has not been promptly resolved. This becomes quite a stresser if one needs to move a lot of load.

The room is super comfy with built in laundry services which not many student accommodation offers, great location and serenity is guaranteed, not far from universities and city centre. Management is helpful and friendly, requested a new mattress and got it with doubled up cushioned, super satisfied with it.

Really great staff, they’re super nice, always want to help and they give away freebies and put on events all the time. The accommodation itself is also great, there’s a ping pong table, tv, mini kitchen and study spaces downstairs and there’s a big mirror in the bedroom and a washer/drier in the kitchen (no stupid circuit app machines!!!). Love that there’s a tesco and subway like 2 mins away and so far I’ve not been robbed so I’d say it’s a pretty safe location. I prefer this one to my previous accommodation (Portland green) because it’s both nicer and cheaper.

The room is well-maintained and has an ensuite bathroom. The commonplace with the kitchen is spacious. The Wifi works very well. The management conducts nice social events and gives freebies to students from time to time. It is in a safe locality with amenities like Tesco, Sainsbury, and a nearby pharmacy.

Lovely staff very accommodating. They go out your way to fix any problems quickly. They organise activities for students based on what students request movie nights ect!

Great place for its budget. The walls are thin though so noise does carry quite a bit and there can be some maintenance issues here and there. But the staff are very helpful, maintenance team is always available and the reception staff are very kind and welcoming. It’s a 15 min away from the Newcastle Medical School so not too far. The neighbour is very safe and quitez

Good accommodation, good value for money and location
Overall great accomodation, especially the fact that there's a free washing and drying machine in every kitchen. The only issue is the limited reception opening hours and the fact that even during those hours staff is often unavailable or the reception is closed.

Been in this accommodation throughout my whole undergraduate period ! I could say it’s one of the best student accommodation for Northumbria and Newcastle university students. Budget friendly and is not noisy living here as it is not in front of a main road. Management is helpful and friendly. Most importantly it has a free washer and drier for every flat. Important note: Walls between every rooms is quite thin

The apartment is not far from the school, about ten minutes' walk, the price is very reasonable, the room facilities are complete, the service attitude of the staff is also very good, but it is not convenient to pick up the express, sometimes the express is displayed but can not receive the pick-up code late.

Pretty good value for as far as accommodations go in the Newcastle area. Great location, it's close to both universities (around a 10-15 min walk), close to town centre, 5 mins away from smaller shops (Tesco/Sainsburys), and 20 mins away from the closest supermarket (Morrisons). Utilities are reliable enough for what you pay for, but the WiFi is quite slow compared to other locations I've stayed at in prior years. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, and the environment feels safe and secure.

I have a good experience at Barker house and look forward to moving into a different flat next year. Whenever I needed help with anything it was seen to asap, any time they required access to flats I was given at least 24 hour notice, and the security and appliances included are worth the money, ie the security and each kitchen having a washer/dryer. Also the staff are very welcoming and helpful, and greet me every time they see me. Great student accommodation to choose, I highly recommend considering it as a choice, I viewed many and this is the one that stood out the most.

I really like this place! It’s good value. Low cost with good devices and nice location (15 minutes walk to Newcastle campus). The ensuite rooms here are bigger than those in city center but cheaper! Staffs here are nice and friendly.
The management staff are so lovely, they have created such a welcoming and friendly environment and are always quick to help with any problems or queries we have :)

Excellent accommodation in an amazing location - so close to the centre but also close to jesmond for nice walks. Manager is lovely - puts on social events to get to know each other. Rooms and en-suites are spacious.

Barker House is an ideal accommodation for students new to Newcastle due to its friendly atmosphere and close location to both Universities. The staff are cheerful and help with any queries you may have. I have felt safe here throughout the covid-19 pandemic. Even though social events could not happen in person, there have been plenty of opportunities to take part in virtual quizzes. The flats have spacious kitchen/communal area with enough storage space. Nearby is a Tesco Express and Morrisons is a 15 minute walk away. Also near the accommodation are parks and the quayside.

Barker House is a great option for accommodation. It is a 10-minute walk to Newcastle University and it is really close to the Quayside which is great when you want a break from studying! The communal flat area is spacious and there is plenty of cupboard space. The staff are always really friendly and helpful. Due to covid we booked the common room out as a flat and the manager put refreshments out for us to enjoy! Barker House is a great place to stay whilst studying for both undergraduates and postgraduates.

Great place for students to stay, there are always activities for everyone to get to know each other. The facility is clean and the common room is so homely and comfortable to spend time in. The accommodation is very close to Northumbria city campus and also 1 min walk away from the number 1 bus to coachlane campus. I’ve been here for 2 years and had a good experience especially with the lovely staff that are always there to help. The kitchen has everything ready including the washing machine which is hard to find in other accommodation with this price.

Its my second year staying here and I have never looked back. It is ridiculously near to Northumbria Uni (3 mins walk). There is a tesco and subway that is just a stones throw away. What else could a student want? An ever friendly accommodation manager as well. The kitchen is amazing and every flat gets their own washer and dryer, so thats a chore less. Perfect place to stay in my opinion. Rent is reasonable too. Youre losing out if youre not staying here.

It’s a great place to stay , city centre is jus few miles away , can talk a walk and the university is quiet near which is really comfortable and got all the facilities in this stay , don’t have to go for laundry outside and good range of price and it’s really worth it

I moved from another accomodation here last September and it has been an extremely homely feeling. The rooms are spacious and so is the kitchen.. Everyone who manages the place is extremely friendly and always helping you with whatever you need. Being an international student you want to go back to a place that feels like home and is cosy, and this place ticked off every requirement in my list!

Wonderful place. Worthy for the price you pay nearby to all necessities and universities. Good location. Very helpful management line. Would definitely continue my stay here in future. Highly recommend as I’ve surveyed many places in Newcastle and visited other accommodation I personally feel this is one of the best.

Perfect place to live if you are studying in Northumbria University. Excellent location and amazing en suite rooms. To top it all off, the accommodation manager, Scott is a gem of a person. Wonderful for students
This accommodation is an excellent value for money and conveniently placed. The big bonus to this building is the relationships you make, and there are so many events on to help you find new friendships feel welcome and interact with others to make your stay as comfortable as possible including FIFA nights, films nights and quiz nights. I would also like to shout out Scott, the manager of the building who made my stay even better and is a great guy, it's rare to find someone who interacts so well with students, his door is always open for a chat, and he makes sure everyone is doing okay daily, I would also like to shout out the maintenance guy and the cleaner, who both have great personalities that add even more character to this accomdation.. excellent management and excellent accommodation overall.
