Grand Central Biography
Grand Central is perfectly placed within the city centre of Liverpool, providing residents with easy access to universities and amenities. Located right next to Liverpool Lime railway station and close to museums, galleries, theatres and shops. You can enjoy rolling out of bed and taking a short stroll to class as Liverpool John Moore University is only an eight-minute walk away whilst the University of Liverpool is a ten-minute walk away.
Inside the building, you can find a great common area that is kitted out with comfortable seating, table football, a ping-pong table, a pool table a TV with PS4 and free tea and coffee. During the summer months, you can make use of the outdoor social space. When wanting a quick snack, there is a convenient vending machine. You can skip your gym membership as there is an on-site gym free to use.
Grand Central has a range of homey rooms to choose from. You have the option of staying in a studio, en-suite room as well as a non-en-suite room. All of these rooms are priced and sized to ensure that you find the perfect space for you. These rooms come fully furnished and equipped with everything you need. The non-suite rooms have a shared bathroom, kitchen and living area, whilst the en-suite rooms share only a kitchen and living space. HI , Grand central has not got an onsite gym. this is not something we have advertised on the website. There are several gyms in the local area as we are in the heart of the city centre.

What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time so far at Grand Central. The rooms are perfect and definitely worth their value aswell as the kitchen area. The level of service from the staff is great and I like how quick maintenance respond to logged issues. It is also great how there is consistently checks that they do in the flats to ensure everything is functioning properly. I have also booked to stay in Grand Central for my second year of uni as the price is unbeatable and I have met amazing flatmates during my first year that I am staying with again in September. I would recommend this accommodation to anyone who is looking for first year accommodation to help them settle into uni.

one draw back is there was a period where i was unable to shower for a whole week as my shower wouldn’t warm - also sharing a boiler with atleast 5 others is not ideal

Grand central was a decent value for the average student maintenance loan but doesn't blow the socks off you but is good value for what your paying so you can't complain and most issues are sortedbfarely quickly and reasonably and the area is ideal for liverpools nightlife and activities aswell as uni so it's a decent little place that's good for your money so can't complain really

My experience at Grand Central has been amazing! When I first booked from India, I was confused about choosing the right accommodation. As a disabled student I’ve had an amazing amount of support. The communication is super clear, quick and kind, I feel like the staff do their best and everyone is extremely friendly. They have plan ready to support you a long as you ask and never make me feel as if I’m causing any problems while asking for these accommodations vs other places I’ve lived prior. Truly an amazing student support system in place. As for the accommodation, It’s not too loud considering it’s dead in the centre of Liverpool and has amazing connections to other areas of Liverpool and across the uk. The shops are close and any personal room problems I’ve had has been sorted super quickly. They communicate when staff have to come in and are understanding if you require them to attend a different day if possible. All in all I appreciate the staff and definitely staying another year

Loved staying at Grand Central this year! I was worried it would be noisy 24/7 but i’ve slept so soundly at night, bed is so comfy. I live in a studio and it’s wonderfully decorated and has great facilities. The staff are all helpful and friendly, absolutely love it here and woukd definitely recommend

I love it. Grace, Lauren, cara, Ali and the rest are absolutely fantastic. Really good team of people. The staff are fantastic, polite and very friend. The only issue I have is with the prices next year. Its currently £165 per week for my studio. This leaves me with about 200 a month for maintenence which is small but okay when I'm working too! Next year, its going up to £189 a week which is extortionate. Especially when our student loans won't go up next year, as they are frozen til 2025 I think? To hike it up that much is incredibly upsetting... if I'd known prior, I'd have chosen a different accommodation as there's no way people can afford to pay more than 700 a month for a place that has the kitchen inside of the bedroom. My friend lives in a one bedroom in Cardiff for 700 so putting it in perspective, it's incredibly expensive. Especially when the studio didn't come with a toaster or kettle, just a microwave. And for a whole month and a half the lift wasn't working at all.
I made the mistake of choosing to live here twice, I would not pay any amount of money to live here and I’d suggest looking for any other accommodation as this accommodation is so expensive for what you get, I pay for an en-suit and I haven’t even been able to have a full shower that lasts longer that 4 minutes as it either scolds you of goes freezing or just doesn’t warm up, I also wouldn’t trust ‘improvements’ they say will happen as it is never carried out properly ie the lifts are constantly breaking even though they have been ‘fixed’. Any new student do not live here for convenience to the train station or town it is not worth it.

Felt unsafe here, builders were often in the flat and especially during the last few months I was there alone and I felt unsafe, one even opened the door to my room and looked in when they aren’t allowed to do that and I was getting changed only minutes before, they also left sharp screw peices on the floor that I stepped on and it was unnerving knowing anyone could enter the flat at anytime, the wifi was also bad the sofas felt like plastic, there was mould in the bathroom and when my Flatmate first moved in her room was full of rubbish, and nobody uses the common room as it is very quiet in there and the reception staff watch you.
The location is great and bed room size was good and there was a fab view over the city. Unfortunately lift in Block F was frequently out of service. As I was on 11th floor this made carrying shopping, washing and my books etc difficult. The staff were always very helpful. We have just checked out and the lift was again out of action which meant then process to tidy/clean room and to check out was extremely difficult. . There was no contingency in place to help with checkout whilst the lift was out of action which we feel is unacceptable. If it wasn’t for two amazing Unite staff (Edwin and Sarah) who helped bring the boxes down we wouldn’t have managed. They went above and beyond and we are most grateful for their help

I enjoy living at Grand Central due to the fact the facilities are good and it is close to both the centre of Liverpool, my university lectures and transport links, such as the bus and train station.
Lovely and helpful staff who are always there if i need anything at all. common room/reception is always good for games and speaking to staff and friends having a mess around, my experience it’s a 10/10 accommodation.

Great location. Maintainable staff are quick to resolve issues. My main complaint is noise. When I first moved here, I was told it was a "party accom". They weren't kidding. This is fine most days, but when it's at 5am on a week day, it gets a bit ridiculous, especially when you've already sent in several noise complaints in the past.
Loved staying there this year, Francis was very helpful when I locked myself out of my room
We had to grab a bike in the night and Francis helped us with getting the bike in the night. 100% good service.

The flats are good condition any maintenance issues are sorted either the same day or next day. The staff are really kind and helpful. I have booked in for a third year. Aoife, Lauren and Cara are really great and all the cleaners and maintenance staff are amazing

Have had big problems with uS in this location, but I appreciate they have been solved. Generally a nice friendly team, but more could be done regarding monitoring problems and solving emergencies!

Very nice room and the location is really good and the value for money is really good. Security is good too with the gates and the security at night. Reception is easy to get to and always helpful

Location is amazing, I think that the classic rooms are a little expensive, however the basic rooms (block G) are really good value for money and look very modern which is nice

It’s like living in a prison. We have a leak in our kitchen they won’t fix and it’s been MONTHS. The lift has broken so many times and they won’t give us any compensation for the Safety breaches. Living on the 12th floor with no lift is inhuman as if an ambulance for my peanut allergy needs called how am I expected to climb down 24 flight of stairs when I can’t breathe. The staff are cheeky and rude on top of it rolling their eyes when we ask about the progress on our maintenance issues. Feel like this isn’t a home and more a prison.
Moved in the middle of the academic year and Lauren made the move so easy and smooth and made sure communication between me, the accommodation and the old tenant was clear making sure there were no further mix ups. Thank you Lauren!!

Decent pricing for the location, quite quick in response to maintenance aswell, happy enough with the accommodation that I’m staying here again next year. Staff down at the reception are very nice and friendly too.

The staff at Grand Central are boss. Always go the extra mile to make you happy. Lauren and Cara are alway positive and get problems solved as quickly as they can. Location is perfect. Would recommend
All staff are incredible at making this this university experience amazing! In particular Ishpree and Hayley always go the extra mile to help with anything that I need.

Absolutely love my stay here 😁 everyone is super nice to me and any requests I make are fulfilled within the same day. I love hanging out with Cara (Cara Harper) in the reception when im feeling lonely as she is super nice and super easy to talk to since I have social anxiety 🙂 the other staff are super nice to me as well but unfortunately do not see them as much so I do not have their names but in general love everyone here! So glad I chose Unite Students!

Personally I have had a lot of trouble with this accommodation. You are paying so much for a place that really isn't that nice, it is more the location you are paying for. One of my room mates is very noisy and the walls are really thin so I can never truly concentrate on work. Makes noise until all hours and isn't wary of the noise she makes. Staff are generally lovely, but there are one or two that aren't the friendliest and have been very blunt with me when asking for help etc at reception. Location is great however as it is very city centre. It is far too much money for the type of accommodation that it is- I would recommend either The Lantern, Byrom Point, Glassworks or any other newly built accommodation.
Grand Central is a ripoff and I strongly advise all to steer clear of it. The location is excellent but the building has paper-thin walls so any light sleepers, like myself, will struggle to get to sleep until they just drop off from exhaustion. Drunk students bellowing and giving awful renditions of Piano Man come in every night in the early hours of the morning. The flatmate in on of the conjoining bedrooms would have phone calls and I could hear every word from both her and the person on the other of the line! Sometimes it felt like we were in the same room. Furthermore, the en-suite had no ventilation and quickly became scummy, sometimes the water was cold, and my toilet clogged no less than 9 times. At one point, a pipe behind my shower burst, flooding my bedroom, as well as two others. On the day I left, I was told by Unite to leave my key in a special box in reception. This box did not exist and reception was closed. Ended up having to chuck it between a gap in the shutters.
It's the worst residence I've been in; Much noise every day (Monday to Sunday), it is impossible to study and sleep. There is no control by the entrance door so that anyone enters the buildings. From reception they do not do anything about it. Never in my life have I experienced anything like it and I would never recommend this residence.
The accommodation is quite simply rubbish, UNITE don't tell you that you are booking onto a building site, staff are remarkably rude and don't have the time of day.
I would not recommend living here, I asked when I applied for my room to be placed with people on my course and this clearly wasn't taken into consideration. I had to move flats because someone pooed in my kitchen sink which put a dampener on the whole experience. All depends on who you get put with, if you enjoy NOT GETTING SLEEP then here is where you need to live!! Otherwise I would NOT live here
I would urge first years thinking about living in Grand Central halls to reconsider. The price per week for a single bed ensuite room is a joke for what you are actually getting. I am currently living in Block A and for majority of the academic year, that lift has been broke - so considering I live on the 8th floor this has not been convenient. You are basically paying for the location with this Accommodation but there are plenty of other student accommodations with equally as good locations e.g. Marybone or Prospect Point. In addition, the internet is always down which is irritating. Plus sides to grand central would be the amount of people you are given the opportunity to meet however that could be achieved through other halls too.

Great for people who enjoy going out and socialising with different groups of people. Everyone is friendly and welcoming and there is a community in the halls. Rooms basic but decent. Some of the Security can be rude but the others are ok if you speak to them with respect. Amazing location. Will be staying here again 2nd year
Grand central Is a lively experience to say the least! Not someowhere you want to live if you want a quite night in, but definitely for anyone who's loves a party! The internet and price is it's only downfall.
I love the location of these halls as they are handy to everywhere but I think they are overpriced for what they are. The kitchen is old and they are the only halls that don't supply a tv in the common area. The internet is shocking as well. I think laundry should be included within the price as its about £5 a time which is very exspensive for a student trying to budget their money.

internet connection is very crappy, we need to restart it frequently. if you are a fan of bed strings, grand central is your home! and no hot water? really?
-very bad internet connection (both wi-fi and cable), disconnecting once in an hour, it's impossible even watch 240p videos in youtube during after 5 pm. -no maintenance. if you're having problems with plumbing messing your room up, they're not showing up until two days later. you can rarely enjoy hot (it is not even warm actually) water in bathroom. -they give you some parts which are supposed to be a vacuum cleaner when they're assembled. but no, they are not. parts don't fit each other. -as I heard from some international students, hall management do nothing about hate crimes (verbal abuse etc.) and these are very common. -way too expensive
Less than a 10 minute walk from the main clubs, 30 seconds to the main train station, 2 minutes into town. Easily the best halls socially, flat party every night!
When I moved in on the Saturday my bathroom light was not working until the Monday, my bathroom door handle was loose and my bedroom mirror was cracked which a week and a half later, has still not been replaced!
A little on the expensive side because of the location, but overall so far my experience has been great here, the people are friendly and there are always party's going on!
few items missing such as iron/kitchen bin. However all better than the pictures able to view online. Very tidy kitchen area and large bedroom.

Living in Unite Students, Grand Central was a big mistake. The members of staff that are employed by UNITE are rude, and horrible
Noisy, I've seen much better accommodation for the money, you don't get a proper living area and the services are pretty poor.
Wouldn't recommend it was over priced for what you got.

Perfect halls for party people and social butterflies. Value for money is poor as there are lots of other nicer halls for cheaper but the location is unbeatable which is why I think they're able to keep the price a little higher. Situated across the road from lime street station, and just a minute walk to the main high street, a tescos and all the night clubs. This seems to by why it's popular with many first years and party goers. Only one common room downstairs where the reception is and it is rarely used in my experience so it's difficult to make friends that way. You and your flat mates will just have to reach out to others on your floor and so on to make new friends
Loved the accommodation! Just a bit pricey
Many of the blocks are grotty with dirty stained carpets and broken furniture. The room size is ok but many of the beds have springs that dig into you when you lie down. Though the location is good and its a good social atmosphere you are paying a lot of money if you not lucky enough to be placed in one of the few renovated blocks.
In a three room flat with two guys, there was no table in the kitchen for us to eat together which made ice breaking a little harder. The staff take too long to do anything; changing a lightbulb in my room took 2 days. There was a leak on the 10th floor and it ran all the way down to the 2nd floor and the damp on the ceiling is still there after 3 months. It was one tiny fridge freezer between us three and there wasn't even a brush to clean with. The cleaner came once a week and just sprayed surface cleaner everywhere, she never changed mop water, never mopped up, never actually cleaned the surfaces just sprayed. I was paying £117 a week for the room and I was charged £217 for not paying rent on time because I was in hospital for a week. Terrible service, terrible building, nice students. When they aren't partying in ever room until 7am. Do not go here unless you don't want sleep
The price that they charge for the students to live here is ridiculous! When it rains massive puddles come from the window, the toilet leaks, lights don't work. You request that the maintenance team come and fix it but they're no better! I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone and wouldn't stay here again if they paid me.
