Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Deeply unimpressed with it from almost the first day i moved in, on which the man on reception came outside to the smoking area and yelled at me to stop smoking weed there and stop leaving the door to the binstore open (i was very clearly smoking and holding a pack of ciggarettes and lived in the other building), i lived in the secondary newer building, which didnt feel new at all. I was told it was recently opened and we were the first year to live in there, yet already my paint was chipping off my wall and most appliances were either already extremely dirty (especially the bathroom appliances) or already broken (in my shared kitchen the cupboard doors had been installed too far over so they wouldnt close but just bash onto eachother). Also the rooms get so extremely hot i got sunstroke multiple times and knew lots of others who did too. this review wont let me add more but this is just some of the issues i could list with scape, hard avoid
It’s chill you know, helps with social interactions, met my friends here.
Scape is Brilliant and practical for both town and the university of Surrey. The social aspect is brilliant with lots of events going on throughout the year. Having a small gym on site is also brilliant as you don’t have to pay extra for an external membership elsewhere. Highly recommend for anyway who’s willing to pay that higher price for accommodation.
Close to the uni, very clean and new spaces, amazing communal areas.
It’s a nice place to be with good staff and ping pong is fun
Scape is very modern and comfortly located student living space, with perfect team members that always are very welcoming, smilinh and help with packages or other issues, especially I enjoy to talk to Andile Ncube. I put 3 stars for value for money because last year when covid wave started and uni moved us to online, I needed to fly back home and lived in room 120 just for 1 month, and Scape made me just 6 weeks discount even when I took my things and room was empty for whole year, I neeeded to pat for it, any flexibility for customer and situation, even this year when I love jere all the time I was not offered any discount for any term.
Scape is a great place to stay, particularly for its central location to both campus and the town centre, and also to Lidl for groceries. I’ve found that the frequent social events have helped me to develop friendships with other students. The receptionists are also super friendly, especially Andile who took me on a tour of Scape on my first day here. Andile is also in charge of the social events which are always well organised with themed decorations.
I really enjoyed my time at Scape, it’s at a very nice and quiet location and all the staff here are extremely friendly. They are caring and helpful and make my life at Scape very pleasant!
The pride Daniel, Andile and Cindy take in their work is truly inspiring. Queries and problems are dealt with promptly to ensure student satisfaction.
the accommodation place is perfect, while the staff is very great, welcoming, helpful, friendly. I would like to especially thank Liam for his tremendous welcoming and helpfulness. he is a perfect receptionist who is doing his job perfectly with a lovely smile and quick response.
I just move into Scape new building and was amazed by the interior design and the facilities they have. The staff were all friendly and were willing to help me especially Andile the new receptionist. She made me feel very welcome showing me around the building and helping me move my luggages. However, I think my room (2 bedrooms) is a little bit small for 2 people. Aside from that, I very happy to be living in Scape this year!
fast internet, great location, management needs improvement. would not recommend studios. Andile the new receptionist is amazing.
I am an international student and I lived in Scape Guildford for almost 4 years and I really enjoyed it! The staff team was very friendly, polite and everyone was always trying their best to help sort any issues out quickly for me. I would like to say a special thank you to receptionist Florence for being caring, supportive and kind to me and at the same time for being a true professional! Also, many thanks to another staff member Joshua who was always making a smile on my face!:) Overall, I would highly recommend this student accommodation. They have many facilities such as gym, cinema room, study, communal kitchen and others. The COVID-19 restrictions are also taken into account by management to keep all residents healthy and safe. Already miss this place and all friends I have met there!
Scape is nice and lovely student accommodation. The interior decoration style is modern and cosy. We have everything we need in a studio room, including a simple kitchen, study desk, cosy bed and a clean-designed toilet. All of our receptionists are friendly and professional, and open to chat:) There are also night shifts for the reception, so 24-hour reception is a huge bonus, which makes me feel safe. The laundry room of Scape Building 2 is on the basement floor so that we won't hear any noise from that. The building is close to the train station, but the window can isolate most of the noise.
