All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Very clean, problems always solved quickly by the friendly staff.
lovely accomodation, staff are friendly and attentive.
Great location for uni, lovely staff (especially the csa)
The new CSA is doing fun events
Excellent location, facilities, and staff. Would highly recommend. :) The building is only four(!!) minutes away from the University of Glasgow's campus by foot, six minutes away from a train station, and right next to multiple general stores (Tesco, Sainsbury), which all makes student life very easy. The flats themselves are well-furnished, with heating and thick walls that allow for cozy studying. The ensuite bathrooms are also very spacious, which is a plus. My favorite thing about the room accommodations is simply how quiet they are, both in the day and at night. Even without needing headphones, it's far quieter inside my room than the UofG library--which is PERFECT for postgraduate studying. I should also mention the very pleasant staff and students. This is a student-only dorm, so it's very easy to make friends and build connections with other folks attending UofG. The staff is also very kind, compassionate, and quick to respond to issues.
Very lovely accommodation, with very friendly and helpful staffs. Great location with the view of the Kelvingrove Art and Gallery Museum right in front of you! And most important is: it is literally just 7 mins walk from the UofG campus!!!
Best accomodation for students..Great location. Staff is welcoming and very helpful.
The location is incredible. A short walk to the uni, 2 lidls 10 mins away in either direction, the tesco downstairs, and, if lucky, views of the museum from your window. The staff have always been incredibly helpful and friendly. I didn't have luck with flatmates, but that's not on KH, and luckily, the rooms are big enough to provide ample sanctuary. The windows are also great, a rarity in student accom. They can open really wide to get a breeze in or clear out smells. Also, you're close to bus stops for three of the most useful buses in Glasgow; the 2, the 3, & the 77. The main frustrating thing about the rooms is storage space. There are no drawers, just awkward & strange shelves under the desk, and one higher up. The rooms were recently renovated and the new bed storage is a nightmare to access. The old ones were metal frames that you could easily stow things under, plus 2 drawers. The new ones need wooden boards under the mattress lifted Every Single Time you want access. Ugh.
The staff was very welcoming. Living facilities near the apartment are convenient, downstairs is a Tesco supermarket, there are also a variety of restaurants around. The apartment is diagonally opposite Kevin Grove Art Museum.
Great location, easy access to both city centre and West End. Though shocking increase of price lately. Super nice and friendly management team of Gillian, Marc and David, who are always here to help and respond to tenants’ requests promptly. Gillian in particular has come up with some brilliant ideas and organised excellent on-site events, which helps a lot during such tough time. She’s also the most responsible staff I’ve ever seen. That girl deserves a raise!
Thank you for the review! The staff will continue to provide the best service we can, and more events throughout the year! We hope you continue to enjoy your time with us for the remainder of this academic year. Kind Regards, The Kelvingrove House Team
Kelvingrove house is located in the heart of the West end and is the perfect place to live as a student as you have so many pubs, bars, restaurants just on your doorstep. The staff are so friendly and are always on hand if you need any help or have any questions. The free gym is also a great addition to the building. Highly recommend.
It's a wonderful accommodation that feels like home. The managers and the team are amazing and always so helpful. It's a great place.
The staff are friendly and the location is great, it is also good value for money considering how close it is to the University. There are a lot of nice restaurants close by and there are some large supermarkets/transport very close also.
Kelvingrove House is really in a GREAT location for students at the University of Glasgow and it provides good services and nice rooms.
Overall is excellent staff here always want to make some social event (before covid) which is great. However, social space seems to be tight but I hadn't use this much so this doesn't affected me anyway. Wifi sometime run slow I don't know why but it kinda annoying in someway especially when I have to do homework, etc..
The accommodation is in the best location in Glasgow, close to some nice restaurants and the University of Glasgow. The staff are very kind and helpful also.
Affordable price and good location. Only 10 minutes walk to the university. And the bus stop is also near to the accommodation.
Thank you for your review! We hope that you are enjoying your stay with us :) From the Kelvingrove House Team.
As a last minute arrival at Glasgow I was very lucky that they had one cancellation and it was the best decision to move here. The proximity to the university is excellent and the opportunities in the area are perfect for students. The staff are always so lovely and if an issue occurs it is fixed without delay.
