I’ve really enjoyed my stay here at Buchanan view. From the moment I moved in, I felt welcomed by the friendly and attentive staff, especially Helena, who goes above and beyond to make residents feel comfortable and valued. The facilities are fantastic, the common areas are always clean, and really well decorated for all and every occasions or festivals. The neighbourhood is vibrant and safe, with plenty of shops, restaurants, and public transport options close by, so getting around is a ease. Buchanan View Biography
At Buchanan View, residents are just a five-minute walk to Glasgow Caledonian University and a twelve-minute walk to the University of Strathclyde. It also only takes a few minutes to get to Glasgow High Street where you’ll find plenty of shops, restaurants, and nightlife spots.
Buchanan View is known for its fun and social student community which is helped by a selection of great communal spaces. There’s a comfy lounge to chill out in or you can challenge mates to a game of pool. When the sun is out, you can enjoy a BBQ with friends in the communal garden. The fun events that are hosted throughout the year are the perfect time to meet your neighbors and enjoy time off from university.
Rooms at Buchanan View are spacious and airy and come fully kitted out. En-suite rooms are in cluster flats and they’re furnished with a small double bed, plenty of storage space, and a study desk. Buchanan View is staffed 24/7 and main doors are locked giving only residents access to the main buildings. You then have each ensuite room with an outer door and your ensuite is on a seperate locked door. We take security of the property very serious and incidents on the property are very uncommon if not at all.

It's an ideal location in the city center. Not far from buchanan bus station and the subway so public transport is very accessible and if you need a quick bite to eat it's all there!!

Ticked all boxes for a place to live whilst studying at Uni and area was fantastic. Staff were always very friendly and helpful no matter what time of day. Only 2 complaints were cleanliness of shared areas (however that can be put down to a particular flatmate of mine rather than staff effort) and lack of social areas compared to other Student Roost accommodation.

Only major problem is the wifi often cuts out at random times and can sometimes be rather jittery, we also have no idea when during the time period that maintenance is going to come by and sometimes they don’t knock but still good nonetheless

Buchanan View is a great place to stay and has allowed me to meet so many amazing people. However, I would have to say that the social spaces in Buchanan view could be a lot bigger and better for how many people live at this accommodation. Additionally, there should be more than one or at least one sofa that fits at least 5 people to ensure comfortable socialising in the flat. I have found that the sofas provided only fit 3 people (at a push) and therefore does not provide comfortable seating for all 5 flatmates.

This place is the WORST to live in. The staff are so rude to paying residents in the building and have no manners. The older woman that wears glasses especially has a bad attitude and often shouts at people living here unnecessarily. I would compare living here to a prison. There are far better other Student Roosts that cater to students better. Buchanan View barely has a social space and it’s incredibly hard to make friends. They also placed me in a flat with men when I had requested for an all girls flat. I am a 19 year old girl and felt highly uncomfortable when I first arrived due to this reason and they refused to change my flat at first. I was also put in a flat of international students as I have a unique name. I believe that this was racially motivated and they do not take any other factor into consideration when allocating people into flats. I feel incredibly anxious living here and will not be extending my stay to next year.

When I tripped the circuit in the kitchen, I told staff at reception who reassured me that it was no problem, and they showed me why it happened so I know for future. This is just one example of the high quality service provided by staff.

Pretty good staff, very nice rooms compared to other accom options. Only major downside is the walk to city centre, but even then you figure out the shortcuts quick enough.

Over it has been a good experience. The only improvement I think that could be made are a bigger social space or additional amenities like a gym that other student buildings have !

Overall a very pleasant place to live. There could definitely be more fridge space, cheaper uni accommodations have two whereas ours it’s very limited. A second sofa would be nice, perhaps in place of a smaller dining table - this would create a more sociable, comfortable living space. Staff are lovely and very attentive, can’t fault them at all. A regular cleaner would be excellent, all other uni accommodations have an external cleaner at least once a month (again at a cheaper price). Also, the laundry service is very expensive

Helena, Jackie, and Emily have all been so great throughout my time here. They’re always friendly and helpful and it makes going to reception a great experience! I definitely feel safe at the complex since everything is opened by a key card. The location isn’t the greatest just because there aren’t restaurants across the street or stores to shop at, but a Tesco isn’t too far and the city center is just a 10-15 minute walk. I heard they did fitness classes last year here and I’d love for those to happen this year if possible

We did have fitness classes last year but due to the bad weather and the classses being held outside the classes were cancelled. We are however offerening one on one personal training sessions. If his is something that you yhink you would like to persue then please do speak to Jacqui at reception and we can organise to get you booked in and get a fitness and nutritian plan put in place for you.

The attitude of the counter staff is nice, and the repair and maintenance efficiency is quite high. The kitchen space is large and comfortable, but there are fewer activities compared with other dormitories.

I’ve loved my time here, staff are incredibly helpful and friendly and maintain the building very well. The rooms and kitchen are very nice and inspected enough so there’s no big issues. Location wise it’s perfect, very close to uni, bus station, the shops and other student accommodations. Definitely recommend to any student.

Only a short walk to GCU, University of Strathclyde and City of Glasgow College, with Queen Street Station and Buchanan Bus Station close by for traveling to University of Glasgow. Any and all issues within the property were always dealt with in a great timely manner by lovely staff who are welcoming and friendly.

The rooms and kitchen have tons of storage and are big for a student accommodation. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The rooms and kitchens aren't cleaned but the rest of the building is and is very clean. Its really close to the unis and the center of Glasgow.
Buchanan View is a great place to move as a student. It is in a great spot within Glasgow with many great amenities within walking distance. The staff are amazing and always there to help. They make sure that you are safe and happy with your stay. Furthermore there are many activities that are held throughout the year that are fun!

Buchanan view is an exceptional place to live for the money you pay. It is a very clean and well kept building with a nice size room and lovely kitchen which has just been redone. The staff are super friendly and are always willing to help no matter the time or situation. Any problems have been dealt with pretty quickly. It is overall a lovely addition to the university experience.
Buchanan View is one of the best student accommodations, I would suggest, one, it is quite within the reach/proximity of unis like Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian, two, closer to the city centre, three, very economical(being a student, I consider this one of the top most priorities), four, the management is quite proactive and helpful.
Buchanan view has lovely rooms and new kitchens are great. Lots of storage space in the rooms. It’s in a good location, close to lots of shops. Staff are great and always happy to help. Little to no parking that is really expensive so think before bringing your car.
they greet you when you come in but then there's nothing afterwards. People tend to just be pals with folk from their flats with the occasional gaff

The rooms are good, but they are old enough but the renovation work has already started and I hope it will be good after that. The staff is very nice they are helpful as well. In just lack some shops nearby.
The staff are really lovely here and are happy to help with any issues I have. A negative would be the social aspect. There’s a main space but most of the time, it’s completely empty.
Buchanan view is in a good, safe location within walking distance of GCU, Strathclyde and colleges. It is also close to shops and nightlife. The rooms are quite big with lots of storage (under bed too) and an ensuite and the flat is always nice and warm. The new kitchens are lovely with lots of storage space and are good for socialising! The staff are really helpful and approachable! Booked again for next year with my friends made here this year :)
All staff ranging from maintenance to reception are amazing and on hand 24/7 for any issues you may have. Rooms are more spacious than I thought they would be and the new kitchens that are being put in are beautiful and make cooking enjoyable.
The accommodation is worth the money. The new kitchen is fabulous. Very near to Strathclyde university. It is also located in a very posh location.
Very well maintained block of flats outside and in. However, i moved into an unclean bathroom, with a window with no curtains and a leak from the ceiling in the kitchen which after 7 months of staying here, still hasnt been fixed. Other than that, it’s a nice flat with nice staff in the reception.
I haven't missed home a single day since I started living here. The staff are not only super helpful and competent, but like a little family, always taking care of us and the Building is really nice.
This property has spacious rooms and bathroom. Kitchen is also good. It has all the Amenities that a student requires. The best part about the property Is that it is very close to the city centre, literally 10 minutes away. If you are lucky enough to get the room on the top most floor, you get the very beautiful view of the city.

Miles off the standards compared to week-1. Didn't resolve issues at pool table for months even after lodging complaints for weeks. Took 3-4 months to replace refrigerator. Receptionists duck the complaints lodged by saying to wear a mask. Received racist/inappropriate comments when requested a help. When requested for an apology they didn't even get back to it. Barge into your room for checking when you are sleeping or out somewhere. In short tricked us with the false views and perceptions of maintainence during the early week.
Very good value for money, would definitely recommend to anyone studying in Glasgow! Staff were always happy to help and were always friendly when I went down to reception to collect parcels etc. Excellent location within Glasgow with nearby shops and student facilities all within a 10 minute walking distance. 10/10 experience

Really clean and large enough rooms. Cheapest accommodation within a good location. I’m a Cali student but it’s good for Strathclyde too rooms are nice and clean and the bathrooms are a good size. Loads of storage especially under bed. Staff are lovely too and will help literally 24/7. Sad about the price increase next year but I’m staying again in the same room. Kitchens are amazing

Along with the great people I’ve met in here & the location so close to the city centre, the staff are absolutely amazing at helping with an issues that may crop up and are super cool with understanding of student life. Found this place by choosing the cheapest student accommodation available. It's cozy albeit slightly far from Glasgow Uni (probably better for caledonian or strath students).

If there’s a problem with my flat, eg locked out or problem with an appliance, the Buchanan view team are more than happy to come and assist. Buchanan view is located in a great area with many shops nearby.

Far too pricey for what you pay for. Feels like a prison. Decor is very dated and is not a nice environment. Management is awful and tried to fleece student during the height of the pandemic. Much better value for money places elsewhere.
I have just moved in as an international student and the management has been below par. Despite completing my induction online in advance and arriving at the set time I had allocated, I could not get into the property and had to get a fellow student to use their key card to let me in. Upon arrival, my key and induction pack was not prepared and the usage of the key was not explained to me. I again, had to ask a student to help me. I was told that it would be safe for me to quarantine within my room in the building, but assistance was poor. I ordered food online to be delivered, only for the food to not be accepted on my behalf and subsequently resulting in me having to reorder and leave my room to fetch the delivery. I went down to the reception to enquire about my covid test having been delivered and was only told then that I was not permitted to leave my room. I was advised instead to email the reception about deliveries. Emails were not responded to in a timely manner.
The rooms were neat. The staff is friendly, ready to help with any issue, and always available. Premises are well maintained. It has a great lawn area and a common room. The UNiversity of Strathclyde is just within walking distance.

Everything that they promised would be provided was there and they were of very good quality. Some key things were. 1. New mattress cover, cleaned rooms, lots of storage space including underbed storage that can accommodate 2 big suitcases, good lighting, furniture. Very fast wifi, ethernet port. 2. A good kitchen with facilities like oven, toaster, kettle, cleaning items, iron and stand, vacuum cleaner etc. (all being good quality products). 3. Very friendly staff. The flats are accessed with a unique key card so no one can get into your room without your key card and so there's privacy and safety. Rent is paid monthly which is also good. 4. The best thing is how close everything is. Strathclyde University, Glasgow Cathedral, city centre and also many other student accommodations. Everything is within a walking distance. 5. The common area has pool, foosball, TV, Playstation etc. A few friends who share flat told me how they wished they booked an ensuite here earlier instead.

Buchanan View is a really good place to stay. The staff are always helpful, they take time to get to know their residents and always say hello whenever you're walking past. They go above and beyond to resolve any issues whether it be about the halls of residence or room mates or any maintenance issues which get resolved very quickly, sometimes within the hour on some occasions and I have been really pleased with my interactions with staff here and would highly recommend Buchanan View and give it a ten out of ten!

The staff are rude, unhelpful and invasive. Some of the receptionists go out of their way to be unhelpful and the security approach drunk students in the smoking area to try to find parties to crash.
My experience here was absolutely great. I don't have a single complaint of this place or its team. Everyone was lovely and helpful even in the most difficult times. Great ambience, socials, reception service, facilities and location. Best team in Glasgow you can bet!
Worst student accommodation in Glasgow, paper-thin walls with no noise cancellation and located right behind the M8 motorway. Rude staff, rude people and with all honestly it's been the worst place I've ever lived in my life. I wouldn't stay there even if the rent was free or even if they paid me to.
I stayed in Buchanan View for my second year. In my application I stated that I would like to be placed with people the same age/ year of study as me. However I got placed with people who were complete opposite of me (doing postgrad etc) and they were all from the same country making me the odd one out. I asked to switch flats as the flatmates I was currently with did not interact with me whatsoever and it was making my halls experience very lonely, however did this not happen. I did not make a single friend at buchanan view for this reason. Furthermore, I got an early release due to COVID-19 and found it extremely hard to get a refund for the rent I paid in advance (in fact it has now been 4 months since vacating the premises and I have still not gotten anywhere) Of course, this is only my personal experience. On a positive note, I will say that the staff at reception and the maintenance team were always super friendly.

I stayed in buchanan view for 3 years, I had a great experience! All the staff was so lovely and caring. Whenever there was an issue they were always happy to help! It’s also perfect location to the city centre! Having lived in Foundry Courtyard the last year it really made me appreciate buchanan view even more! I only recommend buchanan view!!

I had a good year here with friends I moved in with from last year. It was great having access to maintenance so easily and always having someone in reception. Being close to uni was great. Sometimes security wasn't great as my boyfriends bike got stolen but other than that it was a secure place to stay. The constant maintenance was sometimes quite disruptive.

The accomodation is great, my experience both with the other students was great and the staff,especially the night one's were really helpful with everything when I arrived. The only thing that I don't like is the laundry and the app circuit that comes with it. It is a good first year location to stay.

I love it here. Fruity Friday is my favourite. Meg’s really funny and I like her ideas with the comics they are funny. (Need to see more of them) the other recpetion girls are lovely very friendly. I really enjoyed my stay here at Buchanan view. I was made to feel welcome. Staff are all very friendly. I love the girls on reception they are so friendly and bubbly. Buchanan view is just 5 minutes walk from GCU and only 10 minutes walk to Buchanan Galleries, making it an ideal place to stay. Plus with double beds and en-suite facilities, I feel this is a great alternative to Caledonian Court - the university’s own halls of residence.

The cleaning service should be more efficient

All the basic necessities are present, with some surprises on pancake days or fruity Friday, staffs are very friendly, just find annoying sometimes about the fire drilling every single Tuesday

Best value for money compared to all the other halls in glasgow. The staff is absolutely lovely, from the managers to the receptionists to the cleaning staff to the maintenance staff. Loved my time staying at buchanan view and very pleased with my choice

The student Hall is very well-organized. The place is quiet and full of enjoyable events and services.

Not value for money at all. £122+ per week. The fact that the payments come out in a minimum of 8 payments meant that a lot of us couldn't barely afford it because £600+ was coming out of our accounts at once. If you want us to live there for 10 months, charge us monthly. Not very good when dealing with complaints. My flat mate was stealing from me but when we went to complain they did nothing about it. Also the fact that Buchanan View is a non-smoking accommodation but everyone smoked in the flats which was more that disrespectful to the other students living there. And again, when a complaint was made, nothing was done about it. The fact the rent is so high yet we have to pay for a laundry service at £4.50 per every wash and dry. The point that this is a student accommodation means that you know that we have limited funds and you are just making it harder. I thought the staff at Buchanan View were lovely people but they could have done a better job at doing their jobs.
Hi there, I'm sorry to hear there were some issues duing your stay here. We've made a few changes and now there is a new management team on site since you've left your review. The cost of our en-suite bedrooms for 2019-2020 are now £119 per week and we can offer more payment instalments depending on our resident's needs. The cost of our washing machine service is £3 and the dryer is £1.70. We value your feedback - we're always making new improvements. Jenny
It has overall been good, although due to changes in staff team meant that the staff weren't familiar with the premises and additional training needs to be provided with staff who are new to the job.
Hello I am glad that your overall experience was good! Yes like you said we had just been taken over by Student Roost, and were in the process of hiring the best team we could that would help make this accommodation the best it can be :) Since your stay we have really worked on creating a friendly, imformed team. We now have office staff 24/7 with no external security meaning that there is someone in the office what ever time day or night that has an indepth knowledge of the site to help you there and then! We are really proud of the team we have built and feel free to pop in and have a look at the changes we have made if you like :)
