Hello. Thank you for your query regarding accommodation at Queen Margaret Residences. We have no blocks currently at site where alcohol is banned. I hope this answers your question, and for further details regarding our policies please visit the UofG MyGlasgow acocmmodation policies and procedures page.
Kind regards,
John
Hi! Depending on which flat you are living in, between 2 and 5 people will share a kitchen.
Hi,
Thanks for your question.
We have female only flats that have been assigned as they have been requested, however QMR has never been female only. Prior to the original QMR being demolished and rebuilt, there were separate buildings for female and male residents, but that was a long time ago.
I hope this helps answer your question.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Moved here during COVID so I can't speak for the social experience or social spaces
Hi, thanks for leaving your review. I'm sorry COVID impacted on your social experience, we hope you had the opportunity to enjoy and participate in all University life had to offer following lock-down restrictions being lifted and your studies went well. QMR Office Team
Very expensive accommodation for what it is. Have to walk 20 mins just to get to Tesco but otherwise a great location.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. Not only is there a Tesco close-by but there are loads of shops, delis, restaurants etc located in the West end along which may have been a shorter walk I hope this did not have too much of a negative effect on your overall stay with us here at QMR. Most depressing period of my life Gave me depression, an anxiety disorder and alcohol dependency Please consider wether uni is actually worth it (learned nothing but simply regurgitated info over the last 4 years )
We are sorry to hear that you had a less than ideal experience while studying and residing at QMR Your feedback is invaluable to us and encourages us to further better our service. Carol
everything was great except for the 20 min walking distance
Awful, go to Murano. So unsociable I made all my friends outside of halls and missed out on the first year experience.
queen margaret are the best halls at GU, to get to the uni, it’s a nice stroll through botanics which was lovely every morning. it has an en-suite and all rooms are decently sized where you can fit at least a double blow up mattress next to the bed. i would prefer if the beds were double instead of single but the referbushed flats have this so i assume this is coming in the future.
One of the worst, perhaps other universities can use this as an example of what not to do?
Quite simply don’t stay here. There is no heating, no hot water, rooms are moldy and pokey and security is poor with others seemingly having keys to the room and entering without permission
Facilities are simply amazing. I highly recommend studying at roehamotin
The rooms are spacious and good however the cleaning staff are very rude about things. Our flat is rather clean and our inspections still fail over little things so that's quite tough. Don't bother being too loud on a Saturday night though, the local 'on site team' will be round, to tell you that you cannot have a party. Because students are meant to be in bed by 10 on the weekends... The accommodation itself are nice, the repair and security staff are lovely, but the management and on site team are way over their heads. I'd recommend Murano or Kelvin Hall personally.
QMR is what you make of it. Having flats of 5 worked out really well for me. Now my flatmates are some of my closest friends. It doesn't always work out that way though. Having an en suite is great but it can be annoying if you invite people round and they have to go into your room to pee. It is clean, friendly and a nice walk through the botanics to Uni.
A very cozy and welcoming atmosphere.
Quite quiet so awesome when you want a night in! doesn't stop flat parties though which are really fun when you're up for it! Beautiful location though if you stay on the lower floors KEEP YOUR WINDOWS SHUT WHEN YOU'RE ASLEEP OR OUT. Tons of stuff just got nicked this year which is annoying when these are the most pricey halls. Also the heating keeps going off and the help desk are really trying to fix it which is encouraging (also give you free heater at the desk if you ask) , but its also a bummer when you wake up freezing!
avoid at all costs. this place is honestly the worst student halls i have been in, a complete rip off. They look nice from the outside and at first glance they look okay on the inside too. However they're falling apart and repairs take at least a week to even be acknowledged, even emergency ones, if they even get fixed at all. With only one 'social area' this being in a separate building the only area you are left with is the kitchens which are unpleasant at best. Staff as a whole are nice however at weekends and out of ours they are impossible to get a hold of unless you ring them. nightmare if you're locked outside your block at 2am. Other halls such as murano would probably be a safer bet, save yourself some money and go there, at least you won't feel as ripped off
These halls are rather disappointing when you consider how well they sell them to students seeking accommodation. They are quite far from the uni (20-30 min walk) and the staff are rather unhelpful. There have often been visits to the flats from cleaners/contractors/senior residents without notification, so privacy and security are an issue. The en-suite bathrooms are good but they are difficult to clean as they function as more of a wet room, and the drains in the showers are pretty useless. One plus is the desk space is huge and it is easy to study most of the time because the halls aren't too noisy. The social life here can be good if you make the effort, and it also depends on your flat mates as the flats are small and only shared between 5 people. There have often been problems with hot water and heating, however these are always dealt with quickly if they are reported. Overall I would say the value for money here is very poor (£137 a week for all of this!).
Really close to uni which is great and the people who live here are great. However, we as a flat have had constant problems with not having heating and hot water and the staff here have been pretty much useless and very rude - really disappointing when you consider how much theses halls cost (£137 per week). The wi-fi is usually good but has had a few days where it won't work for a couple hours which can be pretty annoying.
Great for parties and socialising, good location only downside is that some of the management team are annoying
I would never stay here again, it's the biggest waste of money I've ever experienced. The rooms are big and the bathroom is decent however the price is not worth it. Veery unsociable and the place is falling apart, in serious need of a refurbishment
Not much to complain about, though the wifi has gone down the gutter.
A little run down, we keep having problems with hot water. Quite a few of our appliances were broken on arrival. Overall decent place to live but not quite worth the £137 a week
Was really nice halls with en suite but cleaning was never done by cleaners. A lot of noise with bin lorries coming at 6am right outside. A decent walk away (30mins) but I enjoyed my flat mates and other around. But hardly anyone was ever in central services so never met a lot of people I could have
Halls are clean, great for new social experiences, Good value for money
Lovely in general but the cleaning staff are rude and there isn't really a mass community area that's actually used.
The bathrooms are bigger than the ones in other student accommodation that the university offers. The inspections are really tough. There is good heating and the water goes warm quickly. It's less sociable than Murano because you're with less people and if you don't develop close friendships with people in your block you might not talk to them or see them much throughout the year. It's a really good accommodation overall and you get a bit of peace but it can still be sociable at times, it's a good balance if you want to get some work done. Te only issue can be the amount you have to pay each month.
