Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
The shred kitchen is huge and enough space to invite many guests. WiFi sometimes down particularly at night time but most of the time works fine. Community area is only a common room that you can watch TV or play some board game so if u You are fancy with gym or pool, it may not be the place for you.
Close to Exeter Quayside and pleasant Big kitchen area
The social experience depends on who you share space with. In my case, I shared with three Indian people (maybe more than three because their girls friends stay in their room) and also why they have to have a party in their room. Accommodations have a living room, so they should go there.
Value for money New property built in the heart of the exeter city centre, every place is very easily accessible from here. No disturbance so that u can easily study and do your work peacefully The common area is well maintained Laundry area is good And u get free pizzzzzzzaaaaaa every Wednesday. THE MANAGER is very humble, polite, friendly and very helpful. He always helps and guides like our guardian.
The City Arcade is a really good place to live. It’s in the centre of town so anything you need is just a few minutes walk away, and Streatham campus, while being a 25 minute walk, doesn’t actually feel that far, and the walk there is beautiful. The WiFi is also very fast and has never lagged. Also, if you ever have any maintenance issues, they will be sorted out quickly. Aziz, the property manager, is also very friendly and willing to answer any questions.
Aziz is really great at helping with any issues and goes above and beyond for everyone. Cleaning wise, a cleaner hoovers the corridors but kitchens are left to do yourself as a flat.
A good and friendly place for students
Good service and clean rooms. At a very good location ...
I made a good choice choosing the city arcade for my stay here in exeter Definitely top notch services and friendly staff Good locality
It is a fantastic stay! The accommodation's location is excellent, close to shops, the Cathedral, and Exeter Quay. The manager is incredibly helpful, and the rooms, kitchen, and storage space exceeded expectations. Highly recommended for a convenient city stay!

I really enjoyed my time in this student accommodation! While I only lived here for the summer and a lot of people had already gone home, I felt really welcome. Everyone I met at this accommodation was lovely. The accommodation manager was very nice, helped me get checked in upon arrival and I could always ask if I had any questions or a problem. The rooms themselves are spacious and well equipped (bed, desk, chair, closet/wardrobe, shelves and underbed storage), the communal area is really nice (with AC), and the building is in an excellent location close to the city centre. In terms of security, I felt very safe during my time at The City Arcade. There is several doors which require fob access before you even get to your room and CCTVs are in operation. My flat had a huge kitchen with lots of countertop space and a proper oven (not one of those microwaves with grill function things) which was great for cooking. Also, there was usually pizza on Wednesdays in the common room :)
Aziz is the manager who is friendly and helpful, the accommodation is a quite nice place to live in
Building on the whole modern, rooms spacious. Location awful, and an incredibly unsafe area of Exeter. Building is opposite a homeless shelter/ drug rehab place, the surrounding area especially the access door down an alleyway often full of threatening and violent persons. As a woman it makes me feel very not safe coming home at night. Maintenance problems are slow to get fixed, a man from another flat broke into our kitchen and broke our fridge, which still hasn't been fixed 13 weeks later due to the manager refusing to fix until the man pays. 5 star reviews aren't necessarily to be believed as the manager is very insistent of making students leave 5 star reviews.
Living at the city arcade has been a true pleasure. The hospitility of the landlord speaks volumes about the accomodation alone. The security is top notch, with multiple fob doors between each level of security, right up to the room doors. It is impossible for anyone to steal or threaten your security. The common room is nice and large, and is great for small events and parties, and a all round nice social area where all residents often gather. Every week the landlord is kind enough to order pizzas free of charge. If that isn't a good enough reason to live here I am not sure what else to say!
The location of the accommodation is convenient and the wifi and Ethernet connection is great, providing a great workspace with the desk space in the room.
I found the City Arcade when I had otherwise very few options and it was good enough for me to book for a second year
The City Arcade is a Student accommodation that I have chosen to stay for my second year studying in Exeter. This has been a great choice because of its nice location (30 mins walking or just 5 mins to the nearest "M&S bus stop " that head in the Streatham Campus). Second, there are many shops, restaurants, and markets nearby just also minutes walking. The manager here- Aziz, is very helpful to give support and sort out problems. Last but not least, the room is cozy and spacious.
The city arcade is a great location, it is right near the main city centre and not too far from the university. It has excellent facilities, including a common room for everyone to use. The rooms are spacious and clean. I would definitely recommend this accommodation.
Brilliant accommodation and Aziz is a really nice guy, very helpful
A very nice, comfortable and enjoyable environment to live in. Well taken care of facilities around the building.
Its an amazing place and perfect location right in the city. The owner is very accommodating and makes sure everything is always on top.
Good living space, near a lot of good restaurants.
Modern, spacious accomodation right in the centre of Exeter. Very helpful and friendly building manager who is happy to sort issues straight away. Plenty of kitchen space with good appliances
Modern accommodation but really cozy due to the size. Great location as right by the city centre, a minute from supermarkets and gym. Nothing to complain about, its a great place.
This place is the perfect accomodation for all sorts of students, especially those who want a small comfortable place this is the one. Contains a large kitchen with dish washers and multiple fridges where we have equal spaces to shares it with our flatmates. Every Wednesday a lovely meeting with quality accomodation where I just love to hang out and meet friends and new people around there. Location of the place is also good, near South Street taking about 20-30 minute walk to the Streatham Campus and minutes away from City where I can buy groceries or attend socials. Wifi is brilliant, never complaint about it, includes a LAN plug for strong ethernet too. Lastly the manager of the place Mr Aziz has always been extremely kind and helpful where we can address all sorts of problems straight towards him. He has helped me in small problems through the term and I feel extremely grateful to have such a brilliant manager making this accomodation truly a 5* place.
Nice place. All people is friendly and this accommodation is very safe.
The City Arcade is in a great central location, a stones throw away from supermarkets, gyms, and other required facilities. The university is a 30 minute walk which is great. Every Wednesday there is a pizza event which is always welcome.
Had a great time at The city arcade so far. Great location right in the city centre, walking distance to nightclubs and supermarkets! The manager on site is always very useful and even helps after hours. Definitely recommend for any student looking for accommodation.
The City Arcade is in a great central location in Exeter with excellent on-site management. The facilities are very nice, and modern as well as having brilliant social spaces and easy access to laundry/bike storage facilities.
Amazing location, amazing amenities, amazing staff. What more could a student want from an accommodation? I find the manager onsite, Mr Aziz, to be the most helpful as he always helps me with any issues I may encounter. 10/10 would recommend to a friend
Living at The City Arcade for my second year accommodation has been a great option in regards to a stress-free environment, at the centre of Exeter town so very close to local amenities as well as beautiful spots: the Quayside, the Cathedral, Wetherspoons! The management has been infallible, the central manager is very accommodating to any requests or maintenance issues that need attention, and is very pleasant to speak to when collecting our post! Providing free Dominoes pizzas for the residents every week has been very influential in socialising with others living in the building, and I have used the common room for studying on multiple occasions which has provided a quiet, spacious and distraction-free area to go to complete my studies. My room is very clean, spacious, and safe- with a fantastic heating system so I can control the temperature of my bedroom to come in after being on campus. The City Arcade is a great place to live.
The city arcade is in a great location, the manager is extremely helpful, nice and readily available to help with any problems you might encounter. It is very reasonably priced for the room and common area size.
The City Arcade is a great place to stay if you're a student in Exeter, the town centre and the gym is only less than a 5-minute walk. You can find all your essential stores and grocery shops within a quick walking distance. The manager is very friendly and the kitchens are quite spacious and homey. I've lived in the City Arcade for about 2 years now, and it truly feels like a safe home. The only thing I would note is that the prices keep going up each year- almost by 30%... which seems a little bit of a leap, considering the facilities stay the same. They also offer summer tenancies which are a great option if you need to stay in the city over the summer holidays. So far the people I've met have been really friendly- you could even book a flat with your friends if you'd like :)
Good. .
Great room, great location. Building manager Aziz is incredibly welcoming and helpful. Highly recommend this accommodation!
Very near the town center and the cathedral. 25 minute walk to campus. The accommodation is really new would recommend.
I really enjoyed my time at the arcade. I like how it’s near the cathedral and near the quay. I also really like the accommodation it’s self. I highly recommend staying here.
Right in the middle of town, extremely convenient. Everything is brand new so it’s very nice. I really enjoyed my time here.
New student accommodation close to the City centre. Shops are close by with only a short walk to the main campus. All the facilities you need are within the building. Enjoyed my time here
Really great accommodation, would recommend!
Great value for money, amazing location near all food shops and clubs etc. Management has been great, any time a problem has come up Aziz has fixed it straight away :)
Nice rooms, kitchens spacious and good for socialising. Management is friendly and helpful.
Pleasant staff lovely kitchens and all round very impressed given COVID.
Overall a very good experience with very nice rooms/kitchens and helpful staff. I would definitely recommend this accommodation
Great location right in the city centre, 5 mins from pure gym, close to the quay and supermarkets. Rooms and communal areas are spacious and the management is excellent.
really lovely bright rooms, lots of storage and spacious! lovely building manager. very close to the city centre which is really practical and easy! had a great experience this year
My experience staying here has been really good, I have no complaints with anything. Great facilities, great management, really nice double bed en suite rooms and good location in the city, really really good value for money! Would 100% recommend to anyone
Property Manager is very good however the other people in my flat are paying around £1,000 less than me for the exact same property as they booked it later.
The City Arcade is a brand new building with bright rooms and is in a very good location. The management are amazing and will always help you if you have any problems and are happy to collect packages when you aren't around. The Internet is very fast with an average of 200mbps download. There is a 1 minute walk to the gym which is cheap and open 24/7.
huge rooms, plenty of storage and within easy access to city centre
The city arcade has been a really nice place to live, being only a 5 min walk from the city centre! The rooms are lovely and bright with plenty of space & storage. Management is great and they'll always help sort out any problems & collect your deliveries. The kitchens are a really light & a great size as well!!
The facilities at the City Arcade are incredible and very modern . Closely located to the centre of town it makes it easy for day to day living. However , the best part of the property is the staff , they’re so helpful with any issues so it’s easy to settle in straight away.
Rooms are really open and bright, the kitchens are spacious and easy to keep clean, management are very helpful with deliveries etc. there is a really nice community feel as it is one of the smaller accommodations.
