Singer Hall, Coventry – A Fantastic Student Accommodation As a student at Coventry University, Singer Hall has been an excellent choice for my accommodation. Located just a 10-minute walk from campus, it offers convenience and a vibrant student community atmosphere. The rooms are well-maintained, comfortable, and spacious enough for study and relaxation. Each flat is shared between a few students, with a fully equipped kitchen and living space that make socializing easy. The Wi-Fi connection is strong, which is a must for both coursework and leisure. What I particularly appreciate is the affordable rent, which includes all utilities—so no surprise bills! The accommodation is also equipped with secure entry and 24/7 on-site support staff, giving peace of mind regarding safety. The proximity to supermarkets, restaurants, and the city centre is another bonus. Name: Janaka Kumara Ranaweera Amunugama

Great accomodation and price. There are some issues with the heating that has been persistent for a long time and unresolved due to main admininstrative change. But resident managers are very helpful and understanding and try their best to resolve issues whatever it may be. Cleanliness could be better in some communal areas - Prasanna venketesh govindarajan

The reception do their best in helping with any query, the accommodation attractive and neat due to the recent refurbishment going on, the surrounding could do with cleaning but understandable since work are still being done, in summary, it’s a good accommodation and probably will improve in the future after all the works are done. Would be more enjoyable to stay if are lucky to have cooperative and understanding block mates

It's a very good accommodation overall considering the affordable price and support facilities but there are rooms for improvement on , 1, the toilets managed by three students should have toilet brushes to help keep it clean to avoid infections. 2, there should be provision for those who want the standing heater even if it should come at a price. 3, the laundry space can be improved a little bit by extra washing machine and a directory note to guide through and there should be a box or baskets made to keep the clothes of those who don't meet up with their washed clothes either by sleeping off or not meeting up with time, to avoid spilling of clothes or keeping other students waiting

I have been in Singer hall 2 years ago whilst it was under FutureLets for my first year of University. Now I am on my 3rd year and came back to Singer hall that is now under new management. It is definitely value for money especially at the current state of the economy. The staff that work there are brilliant, every time I have any issues, they sort it on the spot. Furthermore, it is one of the first times I felt where given feedback is being used to improve the quality of the accommodation overall instead of being brushed off. In terms of other things like social spaces, they used to be good before but most of the area is undergoing refurbishments so most likely will be better. One area of improvement would be the internet. It is good enough to study for most of the time but can be unstable sometimes. With all that being said, you definitely get more than what you pay for so if you have a tight budget, this should definitely be the top choice. Jordanas Petrosius

Probably the worst living experience I’ve ever had. Have had issues with water, heating, washing machines and keys not working. Very poor communication and unhelpful staff

Great value for money, if ur looking for a cheap place that’s is somewhat homely and you don’t mind sharing a kitchen or bathroom then it’s the perfect place. I would say definitely pay the extra £10pw, like I did, for the premium as the furniture and appliances are far better.

Good things: - Good location in the city centre - University gym (which is closed due to covid) - Parking space Bad Things - Hot water is constantly down every week and heating is not working way too often either. It was stone cold in here during the Christmas and new year time as my flight ticket was cancelled due to Covid. - Internet was good for the first 2 months of living here. Now (January 2021) it is down way too often - Kitchen is not a place for socialising really. It is rather good for cooking but there is not enough space for long talks with all flatmates. - Futurelets will not compensate you even after 20 complains of not having hot water or heating which you paid for. - Once you sign a contract, you can not leave the apartment untill you find a replacement. Even though there is COVID and all sessions went online, most of the school activities are banned, you still have to pay. Overall, pretty bad place to choose. Save your money, time, freezing and stay home.
Singer hall has not exactly been a great experience. I had heating issues and complained a few times, but did not get a proper fix. Recently, due to the COVID pandemic, cleaning was stopped. This means that certain services paid for, had to be taken away. I expected that due to this, a little refund should be given on the already paid accommodation or at least a free extension for students who are still yet to finish classes or who cannot travel due to the situation. There was absolutely no compassion or understanding, even after several emails. I had to pay for an extra month in full, due to classes not being over and nowhere to go. For the amount being paid, I think it is not worth the value for money.
Affordable but needs to be better. Basically no social spaces which is a pain if you don't get along with your flatmates.
the management skimped on heating during the winter time and I was freezing my f****** ass off. well its the cheapo one so I dont know what I expected haha ;P
it's next to the red light district (go figure) and the heating was turned off constantly in winter. super basic rooms.
Improve, improve, improve, improve
Cheapest place to live, but for a reason. Maintenance takes weeks to respond, completely infested with silverfish (wake up, turn on your light if it works and you'll see 3 or 4 scatter from the floor into a corner). Even a tidy and clean room does nothing to get rid of the silverfish. Kitchen was very poorly maintained and all food had to be kept sealed as silverfish would get into the cupboards with ease. Only plus is rooms are big, but the kitchen is tiny and social space is non-existent. All parties and pres were at Callice Court (try and get a room there for the extra money, it's so much newer and nicer for a few £ a week more). Flatmates were awesome, shared bathroom wasn't a problem. Walls are very thin so anyone upstairs/downstairs with music will keep you up. I seriously recommend trying to go Callice or Bishopgate instead. Flatmates were the only reason I stayed, as they made it worth it.
Cheapest halls in Coventry but houses would be a good alternative. As heating never works, water burns you and never gets fixed. The cleaners don't clean, they rarely even hover, eventhough you would have to collect a hover to do your own room which they never work. The wifi is pretty good. Overall, many people have to choose this halls because if finances don't worry as its okay and have enough room just everything else is a shame.
Singer Hall might be the cheapest out of all the accommodations available in Coventry, but it’s still much too expensive for what you get. The room and flat itself is quite old, there’s purple and dark green carpet everywhere and the room‘s furniture seems to be straight out of the 70s, but I guess looks aren’t the most important thing. The kitchen is small and still has a gas oven and hob, which is a problem since my flatmates aren’t really the brightest and leave it on all the time. I was quite unlucky with my flatmates in general, you wouldn’t believe how dirty it’s been sometimes, but I guess you can’t blame Singer for that. There’s also silverfish everywhere, which is disgusting, so don’t forget to plug your sink at all times. The area around Singer is dodgy as heck(red light district around the corner), so you shouldn’t be out by yourself late at night. Had to walk to the administration building twenty blocks down to borrow a hoover every time I wanted to clean my room.
Value for money - NO, WASTE OF MONEY! GET YOUR OWN SHARED HOUSE WITH FRIENDS, CHEAPER, SAVES MONEY AND YOUR LIFE! Location - It's about 15minutes walk to university hub, not the best tbh Hall management - Didn't see any Cleaning - only decent thing about the halls, the cleaning group is amazing Common room - there was none Social experience - not much tbh Internet - slow
Singer Hall is located in one of the most crime infested areas in the country. Walking outside at night, alone, along Canterbury St. or Raglan St. is a death sentence with frequent muggings 'coincidentally' just outside the accommodation on Raglan St. (see here for a reference - [website link removed]). The Protection Services that manage the site are extremely nice but they're by no means capable of dealing with the issue of armed robbery and muggings (to be expected, they're not Police officers and I wouldn't expect them to put themselves in harms way with only a radio). I wish I could say it's just me that's inherently unlucky in this area, but Singer Hall is being targeted for the good reason of that students have expensive things to steal. If you can deal with only going outside on your own in the day as opposed to night, you'll be fine. There will be a massive emphasis on group safety if you're at Singer, for good reason, stick to groups.
Basic living. Perfect if you are looking for cheap accommodation for your university experience. If you cannot afford more then basic Singer accomodation may be your choice
So you don't get a common room but honestly it doesn't matter, we just had pre's/parties in the hallway or kitchen and it made for a great time and didn't bother us at all. Singer Hall is deffo the best Cov halls to go with, they are cheapest and the room are surprisingly big. They have amazing protection services who patrol 24/7 and make sure you're safe BUT you don't have to worry about signing people in like other halls, like Liberty Point is gated and needs people to sign in so it's difficult if you pull or have a bf/gf that you want to sleep over. Showers, wifi, water, heating, everything is 10/10. Also pro tip - the door handles work as bottle openers. Have fun, enjoy Singer!
Best year ever! I ve stayed in the superior flat and it s been amazing! Rooms have a lot of storage, furniture it s pretty much brand new. Security were great, friendly, and very very responsive to problems. The location is great and you can get to uni in 5 minutes fast walk and also you re close to city centre and the shops. The cleaners come regularly. Staff is really friendly and always helpful. And if you re lucky enough, your flatmates are going to become soon enough your best mates! Freshers spent at Singer Hall is a must!!!!
Premium rooms were amazing! Wi fi is s***, unlucky with flatmates but all round a good experience, would recommend.
All round best choice if you can't decide. You'll think you need a communal space or on suite but you really don't. Staff are great, location is great. You'll thank yourself for only being 200 yards from Kasbar. It took me 6 minuets to get out of bed into my lecture theatre (I actually timed it with a fast walk). Everyone I knew who was not in Singer agreed Singer was overall the best halls for the price.
Lived in one of the newly refurbished blocks which were great, but not sure I would've liked my time as much if I was in one of the older blocks.
Class place to spend your first year. Perfect place as it's located between Kasbah and the Uni itself, what more could you ask for?
Singer Hall is by far the best accommodation, there is good security but it's not too tight that you can't have friends over. They deal with problems quickly and fairly, providing vouchers where possible in cases of stolen items / damages. The social side is great, you will befriend your entire block not just your floor.
tiny socialising area, very good internet speed, no hot water after a certain time at midnight or so, £4800 for the contract this year. Decent
The kitchen is quite small, so not that great for socialising, there is also no common room in order to socialise with others from other blocks. Sometimes maintenance requests can also take longer than expected.
Good place but a bit far off from the Uni
Absolutely amazing. Everything is great
No common room or social space, just a kitchen. Not much social life. Dull at times. Great for parties, though.
It's guaranteed that this place will make you change!
Accomodation office took long time to anwser me
Staff so helpful and cleaners! Needs a bigger social space!
Well maintained, relatively clean, had a cleaner, good staff
No social space/common room at all, only the two tiny tables in the kitchen to all sit together. Management of any issues e.g. Appliance breaking, tap broken is poor. -The main door into our block didn't close properly and we were told to wait until the next day to have it fixed which was a big security risk. It's close to the uni. cleaning service is good.
If you're a student coming to coventry and you want the most social halls, Singer Halls is the place to be! Can honestly say I am glad I chose it for my freshers! Despite the lack of a communal area within the flat it is spacious and easily capable of holding a decent pre drinks or party (Believe me we've done it enough). On site security or "Protection Services" as they're known are brilliant, you feel safe and secure, also they're very lenient when it comes to parties. Overall a brilliant accommodation, only complaint I had is that our cleaner did like to moan about us a bit but in all fairness we're freshers it was always gunna be messy! 10/10 Would recommend! P.s Block 38 Rule
Most of my housemates are very nice, and even know it is quite expensive, I count myself lucky to land in Singer Hall.
Singer Hall is so close to the uni and you can just walk everywhere from there, so no need to spend money on buses/taxis. For what you get it is a bit expensive but it is the cheapest accommodation at Coventry and compared to other universities it's fairly standard. Cleaners come a few times a week so it never gets that bad as long as everyone in your block washes up once a day. The kitchens have really bad seating arrangement so it means it's hard to be sociable but it's something you have to get used to. There is no lounge which is really annoying. There are 2 toilets, a shower and a bath so this is fine for 6 people.
