All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

The best, most cozy accommodation i could ask for, Great social events and all around so inviting
Staff are very helpful and friendly, facilities are good.
Very nice experience as someone coming into first year, all staff are really welcoming and the facilities are great
The people, location and experience is amazing. Couldn’t ask for any more.
Harry French has been great so far, very good location for both going into town and into Uni. The committee is very welcoming and encouraging, and the flats are very spacious for the price. 2 toilets and showers between 6 people also works perfectly, very good ratio.
Amazing help from all staff. Always feel safe and it’s near all my groceries.
Everyone is really lovely and friendly and it’s really close to everything I need, love the environment here!
It's a decent space to live in for the price. The rooms are cozy and kitchen has all basic amenities required. Good flatmates make it better!
Due to its location, you can feel quite isolated as it's not on campus but it is in a great place for going to shops and into Loughborough town. depending on which bit you end up in I feel as though it can affect your time there.
Issues took a while to be resolved, the cleaning was very average and they did not really do much apart from wipe the sides and very badly hoover. Social it’s decent. We had multiple weeks where the wifi was not working and they had to keep resetting it but it was fine in the end.
Its been a good 4 years spent here
Great accommodation for the price and very close to both town and university campus. Adequate parking, laundry and plenty of green space.
My time at Harry French Loughborough has been amazing! My accommodation is fabulous and I wanted to live here for the next years as well.. We have got nice friendly neighbours. I am in a family accommodation and we have lots of space outside to play and walk. We have also been invited to social events organised by the admin. We truly loved it!
I really liked living here this year. It’s conveniently located where you’re close enough to campus but also can easily reach town in roughly 10 minutes. There’s so much nature which is really nice and makes the place even prettier. Although I couldn’t always attend social events I liked how there were always options not only for the students but also the families living here.
Overall, halls has been amazing for me over my 3 years at Loughborough, I have been very lucky with flatmates; requesting to stay with one for third year. the location is perfect to get to both town and univerisity and it is a safe location. I got a very cosy room that I quickly made my own and really felt at home here.
I had good time here and I will return to the hall next year
Best location as it's very close to town, a bus stop and campus. For food shops it's a bit tedious as Sainsbury's is the only place within a 5-10 min walk, everything else is further Residents were fun, no one extremely problematic, Only major con is that the hot water in showers are linked w the kitchen Taps so when they're on the shower goes to only cold water
Hall was basic but you got what you paid for.
Overall good, staff were attentive when dealing with issues within the houses and noise complaints.
Best hall I've stayed in and has the added benefit of not being on campus
Accommodations should be repaired, and most of the recruitment facilities need to be changed. There is no facility without a problem in the common room. We have no table tennis.
My experience within this accommodation was arguably good as the first year in accommodation. The location was great as it was in between the shopping centers, as well as being near the University which is great. However, there could be improvements in terms of the noise level since whenever I go to bed and especially during exam days/weeks, people tend to be loud and it can be difficult to sleep. In addition, the lights in the hallway are too bright when you sleep and you can see the lights shining through the door's opening side which can be annoying if many people go back and forth in the hallway, but otherwise, it is a suitable area that you could live in.
Everything ran perfectly for me, no regrets staying here and location being closest to the town is a bonus.
Perfect hall for introverts and those who likes to be left alone peacefully!
Very affordable and great location, good sense of community, would 100% recommend
Great first accom for starting uni
Harry French was a very homely and well kept accommodation and the other people there were lovely
Close to town but not ideal location for engineering students
Glad I chose to live here! Good
In my second year of university, Harry French hall has provided a welcoming and ideally located place to stay, much less hassle than having your own house!
On the whole it's good, there are some improvements that could be made. But the location is great as it's close to Uni and the town
Harry French is a good overall location for students who wish to live in between campus and town, it’s a perfect location for both!
Glad I stayed here for uni, great accom
So far my experience has been really good there are always people to speak to about any maintenance issues and cleaning is always good. The location and size/ spacing of the accomodation is also really good
Moved around October from an on campus hall and the kitchen and toilets are always clean. Plus I have a 4ft bed so makes everything better :)
Excellent facilities and really friendly staff
very good cant complain very happy community
Can’t complain at all love the service
I’ve lived in Harry French for two years and I’ve always really enjoyed it. If there’s a problem it gets sorted within the next day. The rooms are spacious and warm which is always a delight.
Great place, close to town and the university so very convenient. Fun hall events and very helpful staff, available at most times during the day.
Good uni accom, helpful staff.
Very social and great price with many new mates
Great space and value, location and layout.
Great uni accom, good location for night life and handy to get to town.
Great experience living with harry french
I have moved into Harry French into my first year and the services offers has been great, reception are quick to help you at any time and the cleaning services weekly are amazing.
good good good good good good good
Reception staff are very on top of issues that we bring to them
the reception staff are very quick with maintainable, however needs more cleanliness from cleaners
Well located between the campus and shops/town
It’s fire bro. Love the location and they sort out problems as fast as they can
Excellent cleaners, very kind, helpful staff and a nice location near the uni.
Good experience, some problems with heating
I’ve had good experience and I really enjoy staying here !
The reception is lovely and always able and willing to be of any help.
Best hall I’ve seen out of all of them love living in it
Epic rooms only needs social space use more often. Return the ping pong tables!
Lovely , friendly staff and quality rooms
Amazing experience , very friendly staff and comfortable sizes of bedrooms
My experience has been great here , reception staff are always very friendly and helpful !
Scenic and green, calmer off campus experience so slightly farther from amenities but very responsive and friendly staff.
Good experience nice staff nice rooms can't complain
It is is great. Jack on reception slays. X x x x x x x x x x x x x x x. X x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x x xx x x x xx x x x x x
Great location to town and campus, friendly staff and decent facilities
really friendly reception staff, potentially need a stop button for washing machines
A hall great for value for money and an ideal location between town and uni
great location and okay facilities, large bedrooms and friendly staff
A good value hall in a good location, good rooms and communal space
good, very friendly , good staff
Amazing place to stay. Staff couldn’t be more welcoming.
I have very nice experience at this hall
Sadly would not recommend the place to anyone.
wifi unrelible but all good otherwise
Good location for first year students due to its proximity to the student Union, campus and town making it easy to socialise.
Social area could be improved by replacing things when they break, larger recycling bins would be useful, overall good close to uni and town
Safia and Chole helpful and friendly
I enjoy staying at Harry french it is clean and the staff are lovely and give quick responses. I have spoken to Rose and Saf and they have been very helpful.
So far my stay at Harry french has been great. It's close by to tge student union and only 10 minutes away from where my lectures are. Its also close by to lidl where I do my shopping so it's convenient. The social experience hasn't been amazing but I have made friends with people on my course and are also staying at Harry french. The WiFi in my room isn't great but having an ethernet cable makes a big difference.
Cleaners are lovely, feels like every flat is falling apart in some way e.g. mould/ broken lights/ heating issues (everything !)
Decent location, best of both worlds with town near and uni near too
great overall jack is great in reception
Internet and social experience in particular has been great, also the cleaning has been good and would like to give a thank you in particular to Chloe in the housekeeping team.
Great staff! With any issues being solved quickly! Both Matt and Andy have been particularly helpful!
Great value for money and ideal location between LSU and town. Cleaning is regular and very thorough. Our cleaner Chloe is really friendly and does a great job! Reception staff lovely too
Don’t really have anything particularly to say
Great location and facilities. Cleaners do a great job, Chloe is brilliant!
HF is an amicable hall community with a green environment and friendly and well-helped team members.
Chloe is a 5* cleaner, we are never let down👍
Been a decent stay here. Special shout out to Matt who has always been helpful and always have a smiling face.
Chloe the cleaner is very good
Chloe is the best cleaner! She leaves the flat lovely and clean.
Harry French is a great location, being directly between town and campus. It can be a really long walk to the other side of campus but there is a free shuttle bus with our closest bus stop being about 10 minutes walk away. Being with Unite Students is really good - they are quick to fix problems, reception are really helpful and they take all post and parcels at our reception, which is amazing as other halls have to go to a central place on campus to collect parcels. The kitchen is a little small and the table and social space in the kitchen aren’t great for socialising. The kitchen is fine - exactly what you would expect from a standard uni kitchen. I am in courts where you’re only either ground or first floor and I have limited sunlight that comes into my room. There isn’t much shelf space in the room but there is room to bring your own drawers etc Cleaners are great (particularly Chloe) - everything sparkles on a Tuesday! A typical uni hall but what sets it apart is its location.
Like the place and it has many good people. Lovely looking area and perfect location
Would not recommend harry french, specifically for returners. Only advantage is the availability of small flats but overall have had nothing but one inconvenience to another. Our weekly cleaner is lovely, as are the maintenance staff, but general management and experience has been very poor.
The price does feel quite inflated for what it is, but I suppose the accommodation does the job. The cleaner, Chloe, does a great job and is friendly and the reception staff are helpful. I have had a couple ongoing issues with my room that haven’t yet been fixed, but I’m hopeful that the maintenance staff will sort it out eventually. Overall, probably a better accommodation experience than most but not without its ups and downs.
The Harry French experience has lived up to my expectations and exceeded them. Definitely one of the better accommodations around. Chloe has always left our flat spotless and tidy. The warden and security team have made me feel safe. So overall been a positive experience.
I highly recommend students staying at Harry French as it has a convenient location and is great value for money.
Chloe has done a great job cleaning out kitchen every week and she leave it’s rly tidy and clean
Decent experience, good value for money, friendly cleaning staff
Good location, helpful staff, fun events run throughout the year
It’s a good for money accommodation with nice common room and decent Wi-Fi however sometimes Wi-Fi cuts out
Good Enivoroment, Good price, on Reflection glad I got Harry French.
Really like Harry French and the staff are all lovely! The location is really good, so close to the union and only 10 minute walk to town. Really good location as a second year student because it’s the closest hall to town where all my friends live, maybe not so good for first year students who want to be on campus surrounded by other freshers.
Had a good time. Location is great due to being in between campus and town. Common room has table tenis, pool table and table football. Other halls Ive been in only had one of those.
Good value for money and definitely in a perfect location next to the University while being close enough to town
Harry French was great because you are so close to campus, the union etc. but also close to town and the shops so its perfect!
I’ve lived in Harry French for my first and final years at Loughborough and really enjoyed my time here
I have lived here 2 years and will live here my final year. The location is perfect as it is close to campus and to shops in town. Accommodation itself is comfortable and clean. Any issues are dealt with promptly by friendly staff.
Lovely staff who are always friendly at reception. It is great location to be able to easily walk into town and is nice to be slightly off campus
I've stayed in Harry French for a few years and I definitely think the value for money of a studio in Harry French is better than what is available in town. It's also in a great place to easily go into town or university.
For the (almost) 3 years I've spent at Harry French, I've had a blast. The social experience at HF is unrivalled, with social events being frequently hosted in HF's Common Room (the biggest out of any other hall). HF is also the closest hall to town, so it's perfect if you need to go shopping while still being right next to campus. Any maintenance issues I've had were typically solved within 1 day of raising the issue and my flatmates have mostly been trouble-free.
Great hall! best thing is the common room and the location near town (supermarket rly near), would recommend. Also the stuff is lovely nice!
I have everything I need here and have made so many memories
harry french is the perfect accommodation for new and returning students
harry french is a great accom in a great location. has good size rooms and are fix to fix everything whenever.
Harry French is conveniently located close to campus and flats include everything you need for a comfy stay.
Best located student hall in Loughborough. Social experience is close to null. Everything else is average.
Decent location and cheap compared to other accommodations.
This is my second year staying at Harry French. Both courts and lodges are great accomodations and I've recommended both to many friends.
Staff are friendly and approachable which was really comforting when moving in for the first time. In a very handy location for if your studying a design degree.
Harry French is a friendly community close to the union and the town centre. Staff are friendly and helpful. Accommodation is clean and maintained to a high standard. Some thing to note is there are quite a few returners.
I chose HF for my 2nd year during when covid , we were very well looked after when isolating and I really enjoyed my experience living here. Based off this I chose to return for my 4th after placement. It's great value for money, an ideal location and rooms. The staff have also always been very helpful whenever I've had an issue.
Decent place to stay if you want to be half way between campus and the town centre. Great place for self catering
Amazing hall, would recommend. Has lots of fun events throughout the year. Close to town and the university campus so in a very good location.
the best accommodation in lboro, perfect location and facilities
Harry French is great due to the brilliant location. It is not far from town and the union which is great for nightlife.
Fantastic accommodation, staying for my second year!
Great location for everything, best accommodation yet, friendly workers and great social life
Very good location, very good staff, 10/10 experience.
Perfect experience for a first year with a nice 4ft bed ;)
Perfect experience for a first year
I stayed at Harry French in 2023 and enjoyed my time there.
My stay at harry french redholme has been comfortable and I consider it a good year of study because of the quiet evenings I got to study in my room
Was not expecting uni rooms to be this organised and large, the only negative I can think of is that the students aren’t very social, so you have to put in effort.
Literally the perfect university accommodation.
It’s good, but you get what you pay for, our flat in particular had a lot of problems with silver fish and drains but it’s a roof over your head at the end of the day
Best location of all halls as close to town and lectures. Loved living in courts as its really sociable.
It is highly recommeded place to spend your best time in UK. The maintenance is always responsive and available to sort any of the issues.
Quite suitable for family, especially if u have small children
The Harry French Courts are very separated and much less social interactions happen with people unlike the Lodges. The common room is a bit far and across the road which makes me rarely to walk up there. And the room I got is very small and doesn't feel fair for the money. However, the staff is very nice especially Rose and Chloe, maintains and keeps the place running smooth.
Reception is a nightmare. Staff are never there even during opening hours, disappearing without warning and not very helpful. Had many property issues that were not solved efficiently- months of waiting for broken things. Reception not given any warning on maintenance staff entering rooms and flat.
Pretty mid committee don't know how to plan a good time
Chloe our cleaner is lovely and does a great job
Chloe is always super friendly and really good at making sure our flat is nice and clean!
good ****, dart board in common room would be tidy
Could do with a dart board in common board
I live in iffley, it is a rather old building, there is always an issue with the heating system. Although the management team always solves the problem but it is a high time that the building needs refurbishment
Rubbish wifi, problems get solved fairly quickly though
Maintenance could be a lot faster at addressing issues, a number of shared facilities in my flat are damaged but functional and I am waiting on them being fixed. Hot water taps are far too hot (they will literally burn you in less than 2 seconds). Cleaning is generally good but the bathrooms could be more thoroughly cleaned. The cleaning is not helped by the poor seals on skirting boards in communal areas. The ethernet is sketchy but the WiFi works very well.
Pretty good for a cheaper accomodation.
Underrated hall. Best location out of all the halls as close to university and town
Good location in terms of town/union
My Harry French experience may be swayed due to the fact that I get in really well with my flatmates which automatically makes everything a lot better as you settle in quicker and get along.
Very good value for money. Close to town so shopping and going into town is easy. Close to campus too. Only problem is you aren’t with the rest of the accommodation blocks
I met some of my best friends here, the rooms are nothing special but the kitchens are lovely and spacious and great for socialising. The cleaners were always polite and did a great job. The wifi was a bit temperamental at times but not too much of an issue to put you off coming.
Great hall. Receptionists were really kind and helpful. Community did their best during the difficult times.
Best value for money in Loughborough-great size kitchens in lodges and rooms are good size Wifi has an issue where it can go down for a minute Location is great 10 mins from union and 10 mins from town Property management and cleaning is average, cleaners do their job well but lots of maintenance issues Social experience was great however covid made things harder
I have been at Harry French for 2 years and i’m staying for a third this upcoming year. that says it all
Besides having a small kitchen for 6 people- with not enough chairs for us to all sit at the table- I enjoyed living in HF. I don’t think the freshers subs were value for money though.
Very nice accomodation and great value, very friendly staff
Good location between campus and town, also lots of trees which is nice
A good hall especially for returners. Good social atmosphere and easy to get to town and campus quickly.
So good! So good for freshers and lovely committee
Harry french was excellent, the staff was super helpful and the courtyard is absolutely gorgeous when the sun is out.
Great hall, not really any complaints
I really enjoyed my time in HF. The common room had just been renovated the summer before I moved in so it was super bright and welcoming for us to use throughout the year. My flat was an all girl flat so the shared bathrooms weren't an issue and we all cooked together once a week which was nice. Only problem is that with it being off campus it is a bit of a trek to lectures (avoid if an engineer) and in the winter it wasn't nice walking home from training alone. Close to Sainsbury's though (and now Lidl too)!
BEST CHOICE I HAVE EVER MADE! Loved the hall so much I ran for committee and cannot describe how amazing the atmosphere and experience of the hall! Amazing rooms, massive common room, hundreds of social events and the nicest part is by far the community! :)
It is a very sociable hall located ideally as you are closest to town but only a 5 minute walk to campus. The hall staff are lovely and want to help in anyway
Harry French provides the number one community in any hall in Loughborough. With such an open and friendly community, you get the chance to make friends so easily and get involved with things you wouldn't typically get up to.
The location is great, particularly if you want to access town & the student union. There's also a car park which is handy!
I stayed at a self-contained flat with serious problems: 1) Extremely overpricing, charging a student more than 700£ a month; 2) Poor condition, an 100-year old building with cheap furniture, rusty piping, paint falling apart from the walls and maintenance issues every week (water/rust falling from the ceiling, broken heaters, broken bathtub, pipes leaking water to the floor, tripped fuse boxes, spiders); 3) Lack of privacy, a flat on the ground floor means people walking close every time they enter the building, and using the 2-3 feet area outside the living room as a space for setting up fireworks, smoking, talking, singing; 4) Zero sound proof, I could hear every step/noise made by my upstairs neighbour until 3/4am, every night, and students singing/yelling in the middle of the street and opposite building. Overall, an extremely negative experience, with no value for money, and with the location as the only real positive.
Harry French is a very picturesque hall. It is located just a five minute walk off campus, meaning that it is both close to the SU and to town centre, though is a bit further from the centre of campus (where most of the lectures take place). The hall is fantastically run, with a friendly cleaning team and has a brilliant common room, allowing for an awesome social experience.
Simply the best. For the price you get great rooms and great communal areas. The thing which makes it special is the community atmosphere though which is unfounded!
I stayed in Harry French for all three years that I was at Loughborough and I wouldn't have changed it for a thing. The hall offers a large variety of options; from sharing with 5 others, to flats of 2 or even your own flat. I was lucky to sample all the options and each one was great in it's own way. The management of the hall is brilliant too - you're in safe hands. Everyone who helps run and support the students in Harry French has the students' best interests at heart. They look after you when you need it. The hall also boasts a massive common room with pool table and ping pong, and the location of the hall is so close to town, Sainsbury's and the university. If you want to be in a self-catered hall with a great social atmosphere and close to all the amenities - definitely choose Harry French.
Top top Hall, by far the best place to stay in Loughborough
Its a great Hall, close to town and the union with a great price and community feel
Stayed here three years so it must be alright
Amazing hall, one of the best locations being nearest to town but also one of the closest to the union - so best hall for nights out for sure (and food shopping). The committee are amazing and the people in HF are really friendly and sociable.
Such a close United hall, with so much to offer for the price. Couldn't be happier, proves the poshest accommodation isn't the best.
Lived there for three years, Wouldn't live anywhere else at uni!
i love harry french, its been so amazing and so much fun. if you love loads of socials then this is the hall for you
Great location and the best punch parties.
Really enjoyable experience, meeting lots of a new people
As a fresher this year I have really settled into Harry French Halls. It is a very social place where people get on really well and I know many of my first year friends intend to stay there for another year.
I love the location etc. But not crazy about the people.
Best hall, best mistake of my life. You do not need an en suite.
Quality banter 24/7. Great location; near town and the union.
I urge every single one of you to choose Harry French!! Location wise it couldn't get any better, the closest hall to town while also being right next to the Student Union.
Harry French is quite simply a brilliant Hall. Naturally as a prospective student looking for accommodation in your first year at Loughborough, HF does not necessarily catch the eye: it is slightly off campus and is comparitively cheap compared to other halls within the campus set up. On the whole, it is a complete gem. Perfectly located just 200 metres off campus and within a very short walking distance off town, you seen realise this is the location you'll want to have for your first year. The 2nd closest hall to the union is also a brilliant facet of Harry French, for that 'stumble' back from a night at the union. I never intended to pick Harry French but quite frankly can't have seen myself anywhere else. A true sense of community and the actual set-up of courts, lodges and East Grove/West Grove is really well thought through (though if you can, get in courts). If you're considering HF, my honest advice: DO IT. Great hall, great people, and you'll have a truly brilliant time.
HF has a great vibe unlike any other, everyone gets involved and the whole place feels like one big family. The committee is very well organised and makes decisions on what is best for the students and what will improve the student experience! I will 100% be returning next year
I love Harry French! It's the the perfect location being smack bang in the middle of uni campus and town so your only 10 minutes away from anything, the common room is amazing too and the grounds are so well kept and pretty and the squirrels are really cute. Everyone's so great here and it's a great family environment
Best hall in Loughborough, lived here last year and this year, and will be hear again next year
Great accommodation, would happily stay here later on in my degree.
Nice to be close to uni and town
Awesome hall, perfect location right between town and the union.
The best hall to live in, inbetween town and campus. Great social life!
Great hall for the price you pay, perfect loadstone in between town and campus! Recently refurbished and very nice facilities. Where else would you want to be?
Social atmosphere like no other, excellent value for money and on the doorstep of town and its amenities. En suite isn't at all worth paying for, as is the selling point of many halls. Well worth a look.
Had an awesome time so far, really inclusive hall with a community feel
Good location for the union and town but awful for lectures
Wouldn't want to be anywhere else, Frenchers are the friendliness students at Lough, rowdy idiots that I absolutely love. Location is ideal as we're close to town and campus, couldn't wish for a better uni experience so far!
The internet works well around the blocks and lodges. Freshers fortnight was very well planned with getting everyone involved and the second years were extremely good at getting everyone involved.
Best hall on campus, near to town and good location
An amazing place that took me completely by surprise by how good it was.
Harry French truly is the best hall with a great sense of morale, we're small and mighty #Frencher
Staying at Harry French was the best decision I made
Honestly love it here, it's my home now!
FABBB! Love it, near town, near my lecture areas. only downside is that it is the furthest accommodation from the gym! OH well HF all the way.
Awesome hall, good room size and great people - good socials too!
Seems to be made of very cheap materials, way too warm and little noise insulation
Pretty good location half way between uni and town centre, like the layout as you can easily talk to other houses in the courtyard, only problem is the walls are paper thin so you can hear EVERYTHING that goes on
All the staff are really friendly and happy to help you. Any problems with maintenance etc are sorted really quickly. We also get notified when our parcels arrive. Lovely community and great location! Very secure and many facilities such as several laundry rooms and a very large common room! Bigger tables could be in some kitchens so that everyone can sit around at once but overall brilliant!
Perfect location to live, directly between the university and the town. Very clean and very well looked after. Very fast internet
harry French is amazing, why you'd go else where I don't know! Perfect location between campus and town, had the best freshers here!
Had a great year living here, fantastic halls!
As a whole Hf halls facilities are basic but good value for money, on top of this they are cleaned to a professional standard weekly. It's in an ideal location although being off campus it is the 5 minutes walk from the union and 15 from campus. Harry French Hall was the best decision I made when going into university. There is much rumour about how other halls within our university don't get along but I can honestly say this Hall has the most welcoming staff and students. On top of that it has the most amazing social experience with Hall socials such as punch parties, boat parties, the winter and summer balls as well as our legendary hf day. I can not get close to even describe how crazy the social life is in Loughborough alone but being apart of Harry French enhanced this.
Living in Harry French has made my time in Loughborough uni. Located between the uni and town, it is so convenient for either lectures, food shopping and so much more. Their social events are the best. The committee organizes incredible social events and I had such a good time in all of them. Everyone is welcoming and friendly which helped a lot with my integration in the hall. Harry French is one of the kind, and I personally recommend to choose this hall. Even though we are off-campus, we miss out on anything. We get involved in every sections of the students Union which makes us a much more lively hall than others.
The last 2 years of my life have been incredible and I can honestly say I have Harry French to thank for that! Glad I could give back by being a part of their committee!! HF till I die
Harry french is a run down dump seriously in need of renovations. Th wifi is rubbish and the place is a dirty dump
S*** rooms.. small bed.. interior looks dated and just not good at all. Sink is small and OLD. Everything is old fashioned. Feel so cramped in my room.. where as at home I have a massive room and I come to university to experience this? Wardrobe is tiny, like the size of myself. It is basically a kids wardrobe and I can fit like 4 coats inside. Bed is so uncomfortable.. I can feel the springs when I sleep cos the mattress is so thin. You can tell its cheap. Its just horrible. So uncomfortable to sleep in and I had to put up with it for the whole year. No views outside my window.. the window does not even open much. Have to share a bathroom with 8 other people and the toilets are all outdated etc as well... HARRY FRENCH IS RUBBISH. SOCIAL REPS ARE BORING AND GEEKY. COMMON ROOM REMINDS ME OF MY SECONDARY SCHOOL HALL AND IS VERY OLD, NOT FURNISHED, NOT DECORATED, LOOKS HAUNTED TBH. I do not recommend.
Rooms are nice and have enough space. The hall puts on loads of events to encourage socialising at night as well as during the day making sure everyone can feel part of its great community.
Harry French is the best hall in Loughborough, with a massive community atmosphere throughout the hall. The hall is the perfect location with a very short walk to the centre of the university, the union and going into town. The hall has the best social experience in Loughborough through a large number of events and socials, while having the biggest common room in Loughborough for you to socialise in. If you're going to Loughborough University, go to Harry French hall!
Very friendly management. Great location in Loughborough - half way between the SU and town. Has it's own reception for post. Best/largest common room- lots of societies rent it out due to location and size
Given me the best years of my life!! Harry French is the one ❤️
Decent hall at a very reasonable price
Unbelievable service with a positive community spirit. A welcoming atmosphere that facilitates fantastic social bonds and a comfortable university experience.
Honestly one of the best places I've ever been and has lead to the best period of my life. Well run social aspects as well as sports and voulentering side. Well rounded hall wifth everything to make any type of person happy. Would reccomend it to anyone looking for a place to live in loughborough
Living in Harry French has easily been the best year of my life! there's an unrivalled sense of community spirit within the hall as its really easy to make friends with a large group of people not only from the many socials that we host throughout the year, but also through different events and occasions that we host. I loved HF so much that i decided to stay in HF for my second year rather than getting a house as i couldnt bear to be away from the vibe that this place gives off. I was originally going to be placed in Towers halls but thank god i changed my mind at the last minute as i chose HF and I haven't regretted a single minute of it. I originally wanted an en-suite (as im sure most people do) however sharing a bathroom between two other people is pretty much like sharing a bathroom with your family at home. Most of the rooms also have double beds which is an absolute bonus if you ask me! I would recommend HF to anyone that wanted to make the most of first year!
Super fast wifi, comfiest bed I've ever had and met some friends for life
Party central and so very dirty. Old and cheap. Flat was too hot all throughout the year
All you could ask for from a university hall. Everyone says university will be the time of your life and Harry French embody this to the max. after speaking to lots of other students at Loughborough Univeristy about their hall, it was clear to see that Harry Frnech go above and absolutely beyond. With their committee being consistently well organised and welcoming to everyone, even those who are shy, like myself, I couldn't of asked for any more. Thank you Harry French it has been a bloody pleasure.
Lodges are away from where everything else seems to happen so pray you do not get put in lodges.
Absolutely amazing! Not only the sporting side but the academics also, a hall that I shall miss for many years!
Great experience. Would recommend to anybody
Harry French is such a warming and sociable place to live, from freshers to end of year parties there's always something to do and someone to talk to
Best atmosphere you can ask for in a hall, I've made so many great friends and always feel welcome when I'm there. Its my home away from home. Vive la HF!
It's the best hall in Loughborough
The hall has a real sense if family feel to it! Everyone knows everyone and the socials are great!
Perfect place to live and had plenty of space and everything I needed. Also has nice grounds
The management of the Hall ensures that it competes with much larger and perhaps better known halls within Loughborough in all aspects of university life - something I'm immensely proud to have been a part of this year, given the initial doubts and concerns I initially had before coming to university. Through the various social opportunities provided as well as sporting and voluntary activities, the hall is able to establish a fantastic culture accepting and welcoming people of all backgrounds - epitomising what university life should be.
Had the most amazing first year there and returning for my second year!
Having lived there for 2 years in a row, I cannot praise it enough! It's fantastically run and kept and I've thoroughly enjoyed my time there.
Harry French hall is amazing, there are loads of chances for everyone in the hall to get together and have fun whether that's at the socials, sports, bbq's, Harry French day, I would not stay in any other hall!
Harry French wasn't one of my first choices for accommodation before going to loughborough, but after one year there and hearing stories from other students in the other halls i am very very happy with what Harry French has to offer that other halls don't.
I have lived in harry French for 2 years and they have been the best 2 years of my life. The chilled atmosphere around the hall is unlike any other hall in Loughborough! Harry French is a family.
Great location - only 5 mins walk from SU and 10 mins to town. Not on actual campus and so has a real community/family feel. Very green and picturesque and holds amazing socials in the well kitted out common room - including outdoor BBQ!. Staff go out their way to help wherever necessary and make the transition from home to halls smooth and enjoyable.
Best hall in Loughborough, would definitely recommend to everyone, been a sick first year.
The first moment you step into Harry French as a fresher you are met with an abundance of life! From then on it only goes up hill. The common room is a great size (BIG) for socialising and hanging out! The rooms are incredible value being one of the cheapest at Loughborough with more than what you need! The grounds are beautiful, as well as having ample of space to play ball games! And to top it all off, it is within 5 minutes walk of the student's union and 10 minutes from the town! AMAZING
Best experience ever being in this hall, social life is amazing
Closest to town and union. The hall puts on lots of events throughout the year to get us together and have a really great time - my Loughborough experience would not have been the same without Harry French.
Spent 3 years in HF and without a doubt it was the best part of my university experience! Close to campus/union/town and the spirit is unrivalled! Great value for money too, you honestly wouldn't regret moving here!
Although Harry French is off campus it is one of the closest halls to the student union and the closest to town. I would recommend this hall to anyone coming to Loughborough university.
I've had the best year of my life in Harry French - I ended up here by accident but would never change a thing. It's one of the cheaper halls but you quickly realise it's a little gem - the social life and community spirit is unrivalled! We have socials throughout the year as well as friendly sports events, volunteering, BBQs etc. Also, it's location means you're close to town, the union and most places on campus (gym, pool etc.) with a bus stop right outside anyway. The halls themselves have everything you need, trust me when I say you will be so glad you didn't pay an extra £2000 a year for an ensuite, you just DON'T need it!! The facilities are being redone next year as well so the rooms/common room will be sparkly new and well equipped. Everyone who lives in HF wants to stay or affiliates - you'll meet the best people here. My freshers year here has been like one big holiday and I've never been so upset to break up and leave for summer, we all can't wait to get back!
Stayed in Harry French during my first year at Loughborough University. Good location right next to the union and close to the centre of town. Also a good sense of community in Harry French.
It's located in the perfect spot between the University and town. Amazing social atmosphere.
Great hall, amazing atmosphere, great value for money. Minutes away from the union, amazing for nights out!
