The West Wing Biography
The West Wing offers centrally located student accommodation in the heart of Cardiff. Getting around couldn’t be easier as the accommodation is located in the middle of Cardiff University and the University of South Wales. The residence is based within the heart of the city, offering fantastic nightlife, ships, and endless entertainment options.
Despite having so many amenities nearby, students don’t even need to leave the building to enjoy themselves! The West Wing has been kitted out with some incredible features, all to create a lively social experience for residents. Included in its features are; an on-site gym,social spaces, cinema room, multimedia room, games room and sunny outdoor courtyard. There’s also a dedicated on-site residents’ team to support students throughout their stay and coordinate regular social events. With students' needs in mind, The West Wing also features high-speed Wi-Fi and Broadband, contents insurance, a security team, all inclusive bills, laundry facilities and a study room.
All rooms at the West Wing are designed purposefully, with student living in mind. You’ll have your choice between en suites, studios, 1-bedroom apartments and even penthouse apartments! All are kitted out with everything needed to move into your new home away from home.

I had a very pleasant time here, the facilities are complete, the service is very friendly, especially the manager Mike and Louis are willing to take the time to help the students even though they are very busy, very grateful to them, wish them all the best!

Thanks for your question, we do allow double occupancy but these would only be available in the Penthouse apartments and unfortunately both residents would need to be a full time student !

Thank you for your question! All studio rooms have their own private kitchen which has and undercounter fridge with freezer compartment. Alternatively, our shared kitchens all have large fridge freezers to share with your flatmates. I hope this helps :)

What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

The west wing is an amazing place for students especially international students in a new country.The location is central and the staff are very helpful. I’ve lived here for almost 3years now and would highly recommend. It’s basically home. Staff organise events throughout the month for residents to meet, engage and relax a bit from the hectic uni work. This is the perfect place for students.

It's a nice accommodation with modern furniture, design and a fantastic location. The only downsides is that while the contract lasts around 50 weeks, all of the rent is due within the span of 6 months, making it hard to keep up if you don't have much support.

i think they're really good in terms of value for money, if you're a student from Cardiff University. Cardiff MET and the heath park campus are a bit far but there's a bus stop 3 mins away from the building which was really convenient. Love the events as well!!

*4/5 stars* "I've been living at The West Wing for a couple months now, and overall, it's been a great experience. The location is perfect - just a short walk to Cardiff Uni and the city centre. The rooms are modern and spacious, with plenty of storage. The kitchen/living area is a good size, and it's been great for socialising with my flatmates. The staff are friendly and helpful, and any maintenance issues have been sorted quickly. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that the wifi can be a bit patchy at times, and the laundry facilities are a bit expensive. However, these are minor complaints, and I would definitely recommend The West Wing to other students looking for accommodation in Cardiff."

It’s a good place near to queens building at Cardiff University and there is a tesco very close to it which is open until 11pm. Moreover it’s close to city road and middle eastern supermarket.

I have had an amazing experience staying at the West Wing! The staff are incredible, they are very kind and very quick to sort any problems you’re having. All shared spaces are always very neat and tidy. They host lots of events, and there are plenty of opportunities for you to socialise with people in the building. They often inspect the kitchens for shared flats, and host competitions for those who’s kitchens are the cleanest (our flat won! yay). There are plenty of facilities including a gym and a laundry room, and the kitchens have dishwashers! It is in a great spot for all of the universities in Cardiff, for example I’m 10 minutes away from my USW Campus, however my flatmates are in both Cardiff Met and Cardiff Uni! It is a great distance from the town centre, it’s about a 15-20 minute walk, but you are also a close walk to a nearby Lidls, and VERY close to a small tesco. I find that it is a perfect mix of being in city, and being in a somewhat residential area.

The West Wing Cardiff has improved significantly in the past years - with fortnightly social activities and staff that are always kind and helpful. For students looking to study engineering or physics, the building is only a 7min walk from the Queens building. Nearby supermarkets are the Tesco Express on Fizalan Road (~3 min walk), Sainsburies on Newport road (~12 min walk), or a larger Lidl on E Tyndall Street (~15 min walk). Lots of restaurants and foreign food markets nearby, with a Wetherspoons across the street. Corridors and social spaces are cleaned frequently, getting deliveries is easy, security is great. There can be quite a lot of noise from the busy roads and school. Rooms tend to sell quickly, especially the cheaper studio apartments. If you value location and no-stress living, this is a fantastic choice.

The West Wing is a warm and inviting place to stay during my time studying at Cardiff University. The team here go out of their way to implement social events which helps to create a friendly community. Maintenance services are also extremely fast and done at a good standard. Expensive and not worth it. You are not allowed to stand in the smokers area after 11pm, therefore if it’s 2am and you’re a girl, you will be kicked out of the smokers area and made to stand on the street. The laundry is £6 for a wash and a dry which is insane. There is also no flexibility with swapping payment dates around. The security are not the most helpful/friendly. The flat allocation is also not good. I am a first year student and was put with 3 international male masters students. I do not recommend

Really nice staff that are willing to help out with any issues you have, for me everything I needed was a good walking distance with it only being a 10 minute walk to the city centre, there’s also a GP surgery close by which has been helpful

I lived here in my third year of University and I can say with confidence it was by far the nicest accommodation I’ve lived in. The rooms are very modern and sizeable with lots of storage. For the facilities and quality of spaces (especially having access to a gym) I think it is worth the price. Especially for a student, by comparison to other accommodation in Cardiff this is exceptional.

I have a great experience so far though I would prefer if there were more spaces like a party room. It would be better if there could be cleaning of shared spaces maybe once a month instead of just inspections.

Nice place, well managed and amazing staff
It is a very hospitable accommodation, the staff are really pleasant especially KATIE, the staff deal with problems immediately and are open to conversations and discussions with all students, they host regular events which are always fun and keep the place nice and tidy, you will always see the place being improved with either decorations or new additions to the site, the maintenance team is also by far the best I’ve come across these past 4 years in Cardiff

When i first arrived in the UK, my pre planned accommodation failed and I had no place to go. I paid alot for hotel services as temporary accommodation for a few days until I found an advertisement for a room at the West Wing. The staff understanding my situation, helped get all the documentation ready within 2 days for me to move in.

Glide provide the WiFi, it's very unreliable. However the West Wing as an accommodation is fantastic. The staff are wonderful, kind and brilliant. They go out of their way to support students in need, especially the manager Mike, and his reception team. The rooms are wonderful, spacious and comfortable, and any maintenance issues are resolved within a fair and reasonable time. I will mostly likely choose to stay here for the remainder of my course.

I’ve been staying in The West Wing for 3 months now and I do not regret choosing this accommodation at all. Fun people, nice staff and clean rooms all together in a very good located accommodation. If there’s any problem you can always go to reception and ask for support. The courtyard is a big plus. It’s a nice space to relax and to get some fresh air without walking far! One thing I would change is the pool table. Sadly, it’s broken, but I’m sure the management is going to replace it soon.
Great place for students to stay not to far from campus
I've been staying here for over a year, starting from the first day I came to Cardiff, and I've re-booked a room here again for the next year. Because I really like the clean and quiet environment here, the excellent location, and more importantly, all the staff are very enthusiastic, nice and helpful. No matter if we need help with anything, they can help me in time to solve. I have decided that I will continue to live here for the four years I am studying in Cardiff.
My experience with the management was really good. Mike and Lewis have changed the accommodation for the better and that’s one of the many reasons I rebooked for next year in the same place.

1. There was water issue for 3 days. Didn't offer alternate option to get water. Didn't inform on time 2. Annoying fire alarms even at 2 am. Sometimes there is not a good reason ( should have managed properly) 3. Bed bugs problem. Didn't solve the issue 4. The Whole things kept in the kitchen thrown (my flatmate's things also , not just food but all the pans , plates, cooker, ....)away to the bins without informing or warning. Didn't take responsibility. Terrible management, always find excuses didn't compensate at all. Won't recommend anyone here
There is no doubt that the west wing is the most cost-effective student accommodation in Cardiff, which is near the city centre and engineering school. The facility there are quite perfect, I love the gym and study room. The lovely stuff team help me a lot when needed, especially Janice. She is really warm-hearted and patient, and would without any hesitation to help you not only in solving something about living, but some advice on daily life. Talking with her is happy and relaxing, she could help you in many aspects. Apart from that, Janice is a bilinguist who also could speak chinese fluently, where you could communicate with stuff and solve problems easier than any other accommodation in Cardiff. In a word, what she did made me feel at home and this is also the main reason I rebook next year.

West wing feel like home to me and very close to university. Site staff Janice always happy to have a chat, not just patient with daily enquiries, but everything in Cardiff (money saving tips, nice restaurants, travel advice…) She take care of me when I felt sick, made me a hot chocolate with marshmallow and teach me what medicine I need. And today, she found a package that I lost for a month! Although my block’s lift is broken again, she deserves my five stars review 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I'm in my final year here at The West Wing and I have to say it is really nice staying here. All the staff are lovely and help me out when needed. The studio room is lush but the only problem is that you can't socialise much at home and you would have to go out. Todd has gone out of his way to help me whilst I am having covid, lending me big tissue rolls when I've ran out or picking up the phone with any questions I have 🤣

I enjoyed my 2 years at west wing. The staff are helpful, the building is clean and there’s many things to do to keep yourself busy. Good experience overall at the West Wing. The staff are wonderful and helpful, there are many amenities and great social spaces in the building, and the building is in a great, central location. Some areas of improvement for me would be cleaning. Common areas were often not cleaned enough despite having cleaners. Other residents can be quite loud, rude, and dirty as well, and while some of that is out of the buildings control, security should be consistent. One security guard was on it and quick to act, but many just hide for their entire shift and do nothing.

I loved living in The West Wing. It’s so close to town and it has fantastic facilities. It was a great place to have your own space but there are lots of social things going on if that’s what you like too! The best accommodation I could’ve ever asked for. Christian made my 1st year an absolute breeze he introduced me to so many people and was just a lovely caring manager who truly cares about the students in the accommodation. The only reason I’ve given it 4 stars for social experience is purely due to covid and the fact there weren’t many students living there. However, now I know it is fully booked and I still have friends that I see to this day. The rooms are amazing so modern and enough space to really make it like home

The staff is excellent and always tries to respond with very good customer service. The issues are more to do with the accommodation itself. Out of the 9 months I've lived here, one of the lifts in our block had been off for around 3 months with no resolution. And the worst experience I had was when my room was completely flooded with water. My feet could easily be fully submerged in the water. It was terrible because I had a desktop sitting on the ground which thankfully didn't sustain any damage. In conclusion, the customer service staff are very responsive, but the maintenance is terrible and the building in general is very flawed.

Loved staying here so much that I stayed for 2 years. Amazing facilities and location and the staff are all so friendly and accommodating. Love that I don’t have to worry about all the same problems my friends have in student houses (bills, bad landlords, security etc). Just the best accommodation I could’ve asked for.

Well, even though I picked the accomodation randomly, I am very happy with my choice and luck too. I have been to other accomodation where my friends live, those places are not at all lively, the architecture of west wing is so good that you can meet people always, even going out, while doing laundry, while playing in the lovely common room, but at the same time very Deciplined towards each others privacy, the study room is isloated and a quite place where you can concentrate on your coursework. Last but not the least, the ambient and decor of the place, provides you the right vibe and positivity, I have always felt cheerful since the day I have reached here.

The West Wing is the best student accommodation I have ever been in. The bedrooms are big they have a really comfortable bed and the bathroom is spacious. The social areas are really good they have a lot of games like pool and it also has a gym that has a lot of machines.

The West Wing was my home away from home for over 2 years and I created some of the best memories of my life there. The staff were fantastic and it really felt as if I was part of a family. The price of the room was fantastic and I had no issues whatso ever throughout my stay. Would recommend to absolutely everyone!

All staff and security are always happy to help and are very sociable. The rooms are great value for money considering the space and amenities and the building is a 5 minute walk away from Cardiff’s school of engineering and a 20 minute walk to Cardiff’s main student campus. I’ve had a great experience in the past two months of living here and I’ve booked for next year with confidence!

The west wing is a brilliant student accommodation, although on the more expensive side it more than makes up for it in terms of facilities and staff care, no matter what problems you are having unlike many landlords the west wing will endeavour to correct anything they can.

The place is safe and well managed. Close to Cardiff University, university of South Wales and Cardiff metropolitan. All services in the city are within a walking distance from this accommodation. Ideal place for a university student.

It is the second of my living. The West Wing is really a very good place to live, especially for engineering students and other students working from home. It is close to the city centre and city road, so going shopping would be extremely convenient.

The most affordable student accommodation. The accommodation team, specifically Christian will have you sorted in a minute. They are fast at responding and will tirelessly leave you without any further questions. I can't wait to move in and meet my flat mates...am excited..
