Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

I stayed in The Neighborhood while studying in my last year for my Masters Degree. The location was perfect, very central, especially for myself as it was only 2mins walk from the Engineering block. I enjoyed the hot coffee and pastries each morning and the pizza on a Friday night. This was a good focal point to get talking to over students. My room was small, but the storage space made up for this as there was plenty of places to store everything tidally away. The reception staff were always friendly and welcoming. I took full use of the gym and cinema room in my down time. Overall I really enjoyed my time there and actually miss not being there anymore. A big shout out to the manager Natalie who was always there to help if anything did happen. Highly recommend Ben
The Neighbourhood Cardiff has been a warm and home like experience for me. The staff are all friendly and welcoming, they get to know you well and every time I would come back from uni, there is a feeling of calm and relaxation. The social spaces are well organised in manner that you tend to greet new people and make friends with everyone around. Management is always responsive and security is provided 24/7. The Neighbourhood Cardiff has been a significant and crucial part of my experience here and I am satisfied with my choice of living here.
A very beautiful accommodation with a good location for students. The management is very helpful and kind. They’re always smiling and always hosting interesting occasions. Makes me feel like home away from home.
Very cozy place to live, staff are always helpful if you have any problems. Free breakfast also great.
This accommodation is exceptional, I would recommend everyone to live here. The workers are lovely, the social life is amazing. Best accommodation in Cardiff :) :) :) :) :) xx
lovely staff, great spacial area, very homely! staying next year because it’s so great
A Lovely place to live, with lovely staff and a delightful community.
Lovely place lovely people and amazing staff
The crew is lovely, especially Saeed.
A really fun and cool place to live, staff are really friendly and the communal spaces are great to just sit and chill with your friends
It is a very nice accommodation 15 minutes from the centre of Cardiff and it is very easily accessible and has various good social speakers such as a karaoke room, dining room and cinema room for hire al day every day
Great location on the city road with accessibility to City Centre and nearby parks. Amazing rooms with TV and sociable common areas. Regular events, competitions, and Friday online movie nights keep the accommodation cheerful. Staff and concierge are very helpful and available 24/7. Overall, this accommodation is worth considering.
Really nice accommodation with friendly, helpful staff. Very warm, can be a bit noisy the side with city road. Really nice up to date decor and good facilities.
Lovely staff and very sage and secure
The neighbourhood feels safe and very secure, the staff are lovely and the pizza nights fill me with joy
I love living at The Neighbourhood, it’s stylish, comfortable and the social spaces are great for fun nights with flat mates :) The staff are always friendly and make you feel right at home!
Really nice rooms, everything you could need in them and lots of storage. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Social spaces are good, I haven’t had a lot of chances to use them however due to covid. Wifi is quite slow sometimes. Location is perfect only a 10 minute walk from queen street so it’s ideal!
This is the best private student accommodation I’ve ever lived . The people here are very good and helpful also the rooms are very nice. I’ll recommend you to live here if you are searching for accommodation.
Located on the bustling City Road, The Neighbourhood is a warm and welcoming student accommodation. The staff at the reception is lovely and always helpful. The rooms are cozy and well equipped. Couldn’t have made a better choice.
One of the best student accommodations in the heart of the city. You can find everything from grocery stores, barber shops and restaurants quite close to this accommodation. Totally worth the money.
The Neighbourhood Cardiff. I would highly recommend the Neighbourhood because of the location and the value for money and the front desk are always welcoming and willing to have a chat or recommend something to do on your day of not doing lectures online. Friday movie night is a great way to unwind from the day of coursework or exam prep and free pizza and beer who could complain? Overall this student accommodation is perfect for the price and is central between all the uni campuses.
I really enjoy living here. My room is so nice and I can really relax here. All the staff are so friendly and always there to chat to and have supported me a lot since my arrival. Clean, Tidy and spacious accommodation. :)
I have thoroughly enjoyed my two years at the neighbourhood in Cardiff. But for obvious reasons, due to the pandemic we haven’t been able to receive all of the benefits we could have.
I found their accommodation is really well maintained but due to the gov guidelines most of the benefits are turned off now. Otherwise their service is really good
I absolutely love this place, amazing staff, very clean and amazing service
Good value for money, greatlocation very close to my uni and the town centre. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Cleaning is currently postponed due to covid but is usually very good. The social spaces are great and I have met many new people here. The internet is fast but does stop working from time to time.
the best accomodation i have ever lived in. social experience is the most advantageous aspect of the neighbourhood.
The neighbourhood is a very welcoming student accommodation with very lovely staff. I would recommend staying here while in school due to the community areas that are available, the morning grab and go breakfast and pizza and beer on Fridays. The rooms available are very nice and the building is always maintained and tidy.
Amazing service , very lovely & friendly staff . Very convenient location. Oh yeah and there is always gifts and something to celebrate :) You basically get more than what you pay for ..
Loved the boutique style of the rooms, you get free breakfast every morning too which is AMAZING. Very attentive staff, great location.... highly recommended
The communication is really bad. We didn’t get our deposit back on time. Prices are too high for those super small rooms. The heating system didn’t work well.
Really enjoyed my time staying in The Neighbourhood, it makes me feel like home.
Such a fun place to live. Accommodation is luxurious and a great place to meet people
The building offers luxury student accommodation at a good price. Unlike other buildings (such as crm where I previously stayed) the building is of a high standard, the staff are great and you get fresh breakfast
I'm always quite skeptical when reading these sorts of reviews, so I would understand if you are too. But I've lived in The Neighbourhood for almost a year now and can honestly say that it's been a really great experience. The staff here are super friendly and the social spaces are great, which has meant that I've made lots of close friends since living here. And the overall quality of the building is very high. Shout-out to Nat, Abi, Sez, Andy Maintenance Man, and all the conceirge staff - you've made it a fun place to live. I would thoroughly recommend living in The Neighbourhood. GA
The lovely staff at The Neighbourhood made my year away from home so much better than I could have imagined. The facilities are amazing and they have anything you could possibly need and more! I have absolutely no regrets.
I had issues with the building as the lift was not working and I stayed on the 6th floor. That was not great but the people (huge shoutout to Abi and Nat) are lovely. Talking to them always cheers me up and they are absolute stars. They really need a raise Tldr: issues with building w/ no lift. Abi and Nat are amazing and need a raise
