My time at Lumis so far has been exceptional, so good in fact that I'll most likely be booking the same room again for next year. The convenience of the free gym has greatly improved both my physical and mental health and I have made many memories watching films with my friends in the cinema room. My kitchen is incredibly spacious and allows me to have all my friends and family over for dinner which means a lot to me because I love to cook for people. I currently have zero complaints and I will be sad when I have to leave.

As a resident of Lumis Student Living at Tyndall Street, Cardiff (CF10 4BZ), it's important to note that the facility does not offer on-site car parking.
For alternative parking options, you could look into NCP Car park (situated just in front our accommodation), St David's shopping centre car park or Cardiff Council car parks in the city centre (the closest to Lumis is the Castle Mews Car Park (postcode: CF10 3ER)).

Hi, heard that to go Lumis, need to walk under an underpass which is dim and worse, drug addicts loitering there. So my question is is there another way to get to Lumis? If for some reasons, need to walk through the underpass, is it safe?

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

WiFi went down at 2pm. And we were told it would be up soon. The WiFi didn’t go back up for the rest of the night. Which caused many of us to struggle since we have uni projects to do and couldn’t relax and watch tv or anything. We received no communication past that first email
Pretty good, but I do have some issues. When I first moved in, my room was a little dirty, the shower wasn’t 100% clean, the shelves were a little dusty, and some bits of my desk were a bit unclean too. The WiFi is pretty much perfect, the actual rooms are amazing and have plenty of space for all my stuff, the building is appealing and is in a great, convenient spot, and there’s a vending machine which is nice. One nitpick I have though is that the hallways are boiling hot.

My stay in a standard studio at Lumis has been great, there's loads of storage within the studio, it's well insulated for both weather and sound and the common areas are huge and include many great amenities. My favourite is the silent study room, it's a nice spot to go study in when I don't want to go all the way to university. Staff are friendly and reactive, though I haven't had maintenance issues so can't comment on that side of management. I really like the studio's kitchen, the counter is very large and the combi oven/microwave is a clever space saver which works perfectly (even for baking!). There have been some downsides, though most of them are usual downsides to any student accommodation: regular fire alarms, outside bins overflowing/rubbish being spread by seagulls, general grossness after nights out. The pipes also groan when other flats turn their taps on. I am anticipating it will get toasty in the flat in summer, as even in September it was very warm.

I have had no problems with this accommodation, the ratings above say it all. Only gave the location 4 because it's a 20 minute walk to uni and the social spaces a 4 because I don't use them often. View is amazing from the 7th floor, staff are friendly, love that I see security doing routine checks on doors and packages are always safe.

I have been living at Lumis since year 1 of university. I am now in my Masters year and it definitely says a lot that I am still here! The accomodation includes all bills and has great social spaces such as study spaces, a gym, movie room and communal areas where events are held for special occasions such as chinese new year and valentine’s day. Reporting issues is easy and dealt with promptly, you are let know in advance too if any inspections are being done or visitors will be entering rooms. I have lived in a 5 bed, 7 bed and now a premium studio and all three have been great and suited my needs for each year! The location is great! There is a coffee shop right next door, along with a co op and Spar being a minute walk away. Lidl is the nearest large supermarket which is around a ten minute walk and the city centre is around a 5 minute walk away too! Overall, for the location, facilities and overall feel of the accomodation, it is worth the money and I would highly recommend!

Rooms are amazing and modern. The staff are very helpful and a joy to have a conversation with. maintenance staff amazing and all catering towards needs and issues. Facilities are amazing with social and study areas including cinema room and conference room. Next steps could maybe be some better noise dapenning added to windows and some more equipment in the gym.

i’ve really enjoyed the independent of living in my own studio however i do feel like the price could be a little more affordable for the average student

I’ve lived in Lumis for more than 6 months now, easily one of the most well designed room comparing to the ones my friends lived in, the private space is enough, just as the public areas are also spacious. Basically, I’ve tried every public space, and every each one has good quality and has easy access, thanks to the clerks. My favorite ones are cinema room, quiet study room and gym, I can never be bored living in Lumis, really appreciate it and keep it up!

On the whole my experience at lumis has been positive with maintenance issues being resolved quickly. However, i have had a few issues with rent payments. Security staff are super lovely too!

As an international student in my first year studying abroad my experince has been absolutely positive. The staff has been really helpful and quick to act in any matters and the 24h security makes it feel really safe. Being so close to USW and the city centre is great aswell.

The people working at the accommodation are very kind and helpful, with the exception of some of the receptionists who I’d say are pretty much the opposite. I never had any positive interactions with them, and as a result try to avoid them if possible.

I’ve lived here for all 3 years of my undergrad and plan to stay for my masters! Great accommodation, great location, great time! Bills are included in rent which is so handy, onsite maintenance team to take care of all things repairs and the facilities are unmatched! Only complain is that sometimes the rent payments do not align with student loan payments which can be tricky, so hopefully this is something lumis can work on!

Good accommodation as it’s in the middle of Cardiff, makes commuting to uni easier. Room is great but wasn’t clean when I moved in (vape stickers on the bed, blue tac left on the ceiling from previous tenants, dirty floor that left my feet black, both sinks blocked) but other than that, a comfy room that does the job. Staff are great and super accommodating and security are always helpful and friendly

Cheaper than many other private accommodations and still very nice. Location is perfect, right next to University of South Wales campus and 20 minutes walk from Cardiff University campus, close to the city centre and train + bus stations. My door lock battery needed changing and it was sorted in 5 minutes, issues are resolved quickly. The main spaces are always clean and the social areas and cinema room are great. Events with free food and drink are hosted regularly. Wi-fi is very fast and stable with ~150mbps download speeds. Kitchen appliances are great and beds are super comfortable.

Lumis Cardiff has a great location in the city centre which is a 10 minute walk to the train station, a 5 minute walk to St Davids shopping centre and bus stops round the corner which are easy to get to. This is ideal for students without cars as we are reliant on public transport so the easy access is a positive. As well as location Lumis Cardiff also has excellent facilities with a state off the art gym which is well equipped and always clean. The gym is generally quiet quite so it's perfect for a workout without a lot of people like in other gyms.

Overall I believe Lumis is a great accommodation for students. This is largely due to its prime location as it is only a 5 minute walk away from the city centre. What you pay is what you get and that is good customer service, nice open communal spaces and clean surroundings.

I have lived here for almost 2 years during my undergraduate studies at Cardiff University. My experiences in both an apartment and a standard studio have been great. The rooms are very modern and well equipped. The location is excellent, just a few minutes walk to the city centre and a 20 minute walk to university. I highly recommend!

Overall a pretty good place to stay, though there are a few issues with regards to safeguarding and security. I was bullied while living in a shared flat so now I live in a studio which is a lot more expensive. There are also cockroaches and silverfish in most places which is disgusting.

Lumis has been really good, especially as a first year living in Cardiff for the first time, it’s been ideal and I’m excited to stay here for my second year. Although at times Lumis have been difficult to contact, I’ve had maintenance issues resolved and generally no complaints :)

I’ve lived at Lumis Student Living for the last two years and have greatly enjoyed my experience. Reception and security are always helpful. I particularly appreciate the gym and study spaces that this accomodation has to offer. It is in a great location within the city centre and just a 20 minute walk to Cardiff University. I will be very sad to leave Lumis after I graduate!

My time at Lumis so far has been exceptional, so good in fact that I'll most likely be booking the same room again for next year. The convenience of the free gym has greatly improved both my physical and mental health and I have made many memories watching films with my friends in the cinema room. My kitchen is incredibly spacious and allows me to have all my friends and family over for dinner which means a lot to me because I love to cook for people. I currently have zero complaints and I will be sad when I have to leave.

Staff barged into my flat with no notice and pounded on all of the flats doors. they were patronising and trying to intimidate us for not wanting to be friends with a rude and messy flatmate who complained, and threatened to kick us out if we did not spend time with them. staff are often rude and disrespectful

1. Value for money Cost for a studio apartment is reasonable, an ensuite not so much. 2. Location Location is good ig, you are next to a railway which is not poggers but not much you can do. you are close to city centre and USW, so it might be good if you go there idk why youd choose to tho. " 3. Property management. The security staff are quite nice and helpful, but that is about all the positives. There are very strict package pickup times e.g. 2-4pm and 7pm+ but they will also send out emails begging people to pick up their packages but still have this pickup schedule, despite there being no apparent reason for being so. Many parts of the have been broken for months and there seems to be no effort in repairing it. 4. Cleaning the inside of the building is fairly clean. 5. social spaces idk theres a lounge, gym and library that look alright. 6. social experience i spoke to someone on the elevator once 7. internet good internet

Lovely place very close to my university and was (this year) quite cheap compared to the rest but although it’s definitely a student Accomodation, the increased price of over £21 extra a week next year wouldn’t tempt me and Iv helped a few others change their minds about coming here for places cheaper with better amenities. The tenants set up a discord server so we could all chat, help each other and have a laugh but we found out a member of staff was lurking inside monitoring us. Quite frankly this is deceptive and makes me Wonder just how paranoid the place is of it’s reputation given that people had genuine issues with broken gym equipment, cockroaches and silverfish in their drains and kitchen stuff being dodgy, some complaints gor fixed, others received empty promises. Using an analogy, like the place is trying to fix a smashed plate with cellotape. There’s clearly an attempt to improve the place (collabs with businesses etc) but key areas need to be worked on.

rooms are nice and spacious, cleaners come in every so often if you’re in a shared flat. no reception staff on the weekends although there is security, just something to keep in mind

Lumis is really good to live in. I study at USW in Cardiff so it’s right over the bridge to get there. The common rooms are really fun to hang out in with the big telly and the whiteboards to draw on. The kitchens are so spacious and have lovely lighting that are perfect for pre’s. Rooms are really cosy and I love the feeling of the place :)

Lovely place, lovely staff and great location right opposite USW! Great value for money, and good facilities. The gym equipment is often broken, and it can take a while for things to be fixed after you request it, but apart from that, it’s a great place to live! I’ve lived here for 2 years and love it!

The lumis accommodation i am in is in a good location. The staff at some points are rude and feel unwelcoming and I often go to security at night if I need anything instead. The social spaces are run down, the playing machines we have there have never worked and seem to only be there for show which is disappointing and feels like you’ve been deceived. The security are so lovely and make you feel very safe, definitely the best part of lumis.

The facilities are great for socialising and hanging out with friends, the location is great - I just don’t believe the building has been built very well. There is constantly various problems that cause safety concerns. The day staff can be quite rude but the evening security staff are top tear.

price went up every year, quality went down. the building is falling apart, some of the staff are rude and unhelpful, the security are great though 10/10 for them. good social spaces & since going private they have tried to do more social party things like chinese new year with free boba, that was great.

I moved here from cathays because of issues with rats and I am so much happier here. Staff maintenance and security are all lovely and everyone who lives here has been so nice and friendly. There’s a gym and really good study spaces too.

The location and modern design are great, and the staff are helpful. Management has also been noticeably more organized since Jade took over. My two main concerns/issues are the excessive heat in the building—especially during summer—and a cockroach problem that has only recently started improving. That aside, I’ve recommended it to friends and would do so again.

I’ve really enjoyed living in lumis this year. They have a wide variety of social spaces such as a games room, study room and gym which are all great spaces. I live in a shared flat and I have enjoyed the experience and made really good friends with my flatmates. Overall this is a really good accommodation which is a short distance from the city centre which has a wide range of shops and social spaces such as pubs, bars, nightclubs and coffee shops. Also not far from lumis there is a Lidl which is a great place to do your weekly shop especially if you are a student on a budget. A final highlight for me specifically is that several of the inner city campuses are only a short walk away the closest being the University of South Wales Atrium Campus for the Creative Industries.

I'm having a great experience at Lumis Cardiff. This is a great place to stay during your University. The accomodation is very well-located with a 3 minutes walk from city centre and you can see USW from your window! The building is really warm in winter and after past experiences, I value that a lot. The social spaces are also quite big and well maintained and cleaned. The male manager is very friendly and I feel like my issues are always getting resolved. A great place to stay as a student in Cardiff!!

I'm really enjoying living at Lumis and have just booked a room again for next year. There's a range of amenities like the gym, the cinema room, study rooms and several social spaces. The building is very nice, and it's location is very convenient and close enough to the town centre. The room itself is very spacious with lots of storage and great quality furnishings. The kitchens are good, but storage in there could be improved. But the kitchen does offer 2 fridges and a dishwasher so you can't complain too much. I'm very much enjoying my stay at Lumis and definitely recommend it!

The common areas could be used with a rework in the furniture fabric to make it more appealing. Other than that, events like the Lunar New Year can be organised to keep the residents engaged.

It is a comfortable place to live although the recent change of management has been anything but smooth, requiring a separate email to rebook the room I'm currently living in with severe delays to providing our contracts to sign. That being said, this could just be a transitional issue.

They have increased rent exponentially and forced people to move out by putting up their rent by over 30%. It was a decent value for money place, but the awkward location and lack of social spaces as well as generally unhelpful reception staff mean many are moving out.

Lovely on-site facilities including downstairs seating area gym and cinema room amongst others friendly staff. Decor from inside is very nice. The building and the rooms. Remains clean. Kitchen is spacious as well.

The rooms are comfortable and spacious with plenty of amenities. The proximity to university is incredibly ideal. The facilities are great (cinema, gym) and the common areas are always kept clean. The security guards are always helpful and friendly and the daytime staff are always on the ball sorting maintenance. The building runs very hot in the summer so I have to keep my windows open from March to stop it getting too hot but it’s easy to deal with if you know in advance. The lack of freezer space in my Premium Studio was a big problem but I imagine it would be less so in a cluster. I would suggest buying a cheap freezer to make sure you can store your food. Overall this is a fantastic place to live and I would highly recommend it to anyone if you can afford it.

my experience at Lumis has been okay, but there have been issues with fire alarms, water turning off, tv and wifi issues, and others having issues with mold, cockroaches and maintenance people walking into their rooms

Really nice place for students, although the price increase is very significant this year. Love the social spaces but the company don’t prioritise putting the same years together which would be very beneficial and make it feel more like a student accommodation.

The studio apartments here are great value for money with everything one or two people need. I’m very thankful to have my own space. Management are very friendly and respond promptly to any enquiries! Lots of social activities happening within the main social room!

The studio flats here are so comfortable, I love having my own little space to make mine. There are so many social rooms that are really useful, and the gym downstairs is amazing! I’m really enjoying my stay here and have rebooked for next year

The accommodation could do a lot better with regards to maintenance. Maintenance isn't giving the urgency it deserves. Notes indicating the contractor has come in could be left in student's rooms after the maintenance issue has been resolved.

Lumis is a solid accommodation, the on-site gym could be better and maintained better but other communal spaces are pretty good. The rooms are a good size and comfortable, the kitchens don't have very good ventilation but are also a good size. Lifts are in working order 99% of the time which is better than other accommodations I have witnessed. The staff are nice. The cleaning company are questionable, had a lot of negative experiences with them cleaning the kitchen. Other than that, it's great I do recommend it.

Very slow to respond to issues. Rooms aren’t checked and cleaned before the move in date. Social spaces are very empty.

AVOID. I understand that Lumis was run better a few years ago, however the year of 23/34 I spent here was awful. The organisation was awful, the website barely works. I didn't even have confirmation of my room until like a week before I moved in. I called several times leading up to moving in, no one ever answers the phone. Email responses also took either weeks or multiple emails from me. After moving in, I was the only girl in my cluster. They don't care, they will just shove you anywhere. There is only one girl in the cluster of 7 next door to us too. I've had cockroaches in my room on multiple occasions. The drain in my shower didn't work, I had to unclog the hair from last year which was so disgusting. Our appliances broke on the regular. ALSO the payments are all due before student loans arrive, again there is just no organisation. I know it looks nice, and the rooms are pretty nice, but it's not worth it.
Lumis student living is affordable yet the best place to stay. Good people, good environment, clean and tidy rooms, helpful staff. Highly recommended.
I will recommend this property, its been 3 amazing years living here. The only down side its the noise they make from the North block at late nights. Its like they are select bubbles every yr😀😀. The lundry provider CIRCUIT, they lack maintenance😔. Lovely security team😁 Overall best accommodation for students👌
Took two and half years in lumis. Every staff is friendly and response quickly for the things not ok. Location is fantastic, so easy to access cardiff Bay and city centre.

This was the first accommodation I moved to in uni, and I’ve stayed here for all 3 years. The staff is helpful and very nice, the place have everything a student might need and it is close to the city centre.

The rooms are of the best quality and the staff are super professional and friendly! This area is really close to the city centre too, so it is only a short walk into town. The social spaces are of the highest quality and super spacious! Perfect for meeting new people and hanging out with your friends!

Having a fabulous time at the Lumis, lovely room with an amazing view of cardiff bay (on 10th floor), staff are lovely and helpful, social areas useful for studying in when i cannot focus in my room, very very warm on top floor so would definitely recommend getting a big fan but worth it for the views!

First year living here and the move in was simple and easy. Staff were very helpful and the facilities were easy to find my way around. The room was very clean on arrival and are very spacious fitted with lots of storage and desk space. The kitchen in the same with plenty of room for 7 of us to move around in with ease. Great facilities downstairs including the gym, study spaces, cinema room and pool/table footy. Highly recommend this accommodation having lived here first hand.

I don't know about others but I love Lumis. Peaceful and quiet, with absolutely no drama. Everyone is okay and the environment is student friendly. Been here for over a year and will definitely be here till I'm done with uni.

Spent my first two years at uni here and am loving every second, security are great and the staff are very lovely, no major issues to complain about. An all around great experience.

in my second year of uni and my first accommodation failed to provide a safe living space and areas too hang out with my mates. when moving into lumis i was shocked too see how big the spaces where for us too study, to hang out and watch movies with my mates. i went for a studio apartment this year and was amazed with how well the room was when i got there. everything worked and all was clean. it was very spacious and the tv worked well. living here makes me feel a lot safer from my previous place with alot of doors needing a fob too let you in and how the staff are ready too help the second you ask for it. highly recommend you stay here fir a first year of you’re looking too meet new people or even live on your own.

The best place I have ever stayed, the staff are lovely and are always happy to help with even the most random of things like opening nail varnish bottles. The post collection times are perfect times in the day to fit around uni, it’s not far from any campus and its 5 mins away from the town centre. Also the food options near by are great and don’t take long to be delivered.
Modern, nice building. Social areas are big and have a warm atmosphere. The location is very good.

All I can say is save your money and don’t waste your time using this student accommodation. The customer service is outrageous and the facilities are always out of order. During the pandemic they neglected students and confined them to their rooms also they do their best to withhold your deposit
Great rooms for the price and also feels very secure with a nice environment and great location. Despite this it has felt like ive lived on a building site for the last year. The only way to make the noise slightly quieter is to shut your window as if it wasn't bad enough with the heat as the ventilation is terrible no number of fans will ever be enough. Don't live in the South building facing the Capital as it is so depressing as you get no sunlight! and a view of an empty office with builders in. The windows have not been cleaned once since I got here and are gross. Despite living alone in a studio you weren't allowed even one guest even when the government allowed another household to mix. So not only did student get depressed working from home constantly you can't even have someone over in the room you pay rent for. It felt like you were in prison and school with so many rules that were unnecessary. Wifi is awful and rooms weren't cleaned properly when moving in
Love lumis ! Lived here for 3 years and I'm leaving soon will miss it so much the staff are amazing and this place is what made me want to go to uni as I was obsessed with it the day I came for a viewing ! Highly reccomend
Great Facilities, Okay Staff, The WORST social experiences ever. If you’re looking for fun extroverted flat parties.LOOK AWAY. The group chat sums up the people that tend to live here, they complain about every little thing about the Accomodation. The accommodation tends to contain mostly USW students with a few Cardiff Met and Cardiff Uni students. However, If you LIKE your own space and is someone who is Introverted and want to go for somewhere with a great location to Town, this is PERFECT for you. The Price is also great for value, £118 a week for a 7 bed cluster with amazing facilities with an en suite is honestly so so good. Overall experience 5/10
Awful cleaners who don’t wear masks and also didn’t bother to clean well during lockdown when things should’ve been the most sanitised (took 2 months to clean a dirty lift), awful wifi, *mysterious* landlord who wont let suicidal people cancel their contract this year but let 100’s of people leave last March for the 1st lockdown (provided they could leave before a certain date), building works on the walls outside your windows that shake the rooms 10am-5pm during 3rd years final weeks of Uni, rather than waiting an extra few weeks till everyone finished. Very rude and fake receptionist (some nice ones too) & weird parcel hours. Last July i was alone in my flat and had numerous staff walk into my flat without warning (illegal) and also not covid safe lol and scary as a young woman to hear ppl walk in your flat while you’re showering without notifying you previously (again, illegal). So many issues. Also moved to a 5 bed from a 7 and i pay £4 extra a week and yet have less space lol.
Super close to uni! The bridge is a little annoying when you're asthmatic but I could get from my bed to class at USW Atrium in 5 mins 😎 The building itself seems to always have the heating on - it's so hot in the corridors and the radiators in the rooms seem to have a life of their own. The windows have grates over them so even if you open them there's no air flow. The socials are nice when they actually happen, I loved the Halloween party but since covid there hasn't been anything so my socialising has been awful here. I've been here 2 years and only know people via my uni course because I'm living alone in a studio. The view is nice from my room, and the trains aren't too noisy for me, although the odd one squeaks through at 3am. The laundry is expensive but it's via circuit so the same with most accoms in the area, and the wifi is great beyond the odd drop or black out from external issues. Its probably the best value studio accommodation in Cardiff Central right now for USW.

Due to COVID we haven’t been able to use social spaces but they do look nice😊 The kitchen space is great because of the room and it doesn’t feel like a prison. Everyone is very nice and easy to talk to 👍
Due to COVID we didn’t manage to actually use the social spaces but every time we walked past they looked like they would’ve been nice to hang out :/ living here was enjoyable and the rooms are definitely good value as there’s loads of storage space and cupboards to fill! All the staff are very friendly and approachable if you have any sort of concern or problems
All of the reception staff are amazing!! Same for security!! Plus room is really nice too!!

lumis student living in Cardiff, local to the centre. Easy access to local facilities!
For the the most part living at Lumis is great but the only thing that really gets to me is that we are not allowed to collect post outside of set times. This has made me really think about chaning where I live as I am busy and find it hard to collect my post at set times.
This was my first year here and it was ok, but I'm pretty sure because of the Pandemic they weren't able to do anything like social activities. But every other thing is good, the flats are good also, but if you get lucky you'd have clean flatmates. But I prefer the studio for myself. Everyone has their preference. But to cut the long story short, I would r commend this accommodation to anyone I know, its value for money is 10/10 and the people here are nice and welcoming.
Good value for money and convenient distance from the city centre.
Since maintenance was done on the wifi, it has not been as good as before. Some maintenance issues with kitchen/bedrooms are not addressed and left unfixed. However, Lumis is a lovely place for students to stay that’s perfect for access to the city centre and USW. The apartments are spacious and modern. A very social space for students to interact. Due to covid the common spaces haven’t been open which is a shame.
