This accommodation is one of the cheaper ones although it comes with great views of the cathedral and city centre from outside your window and a meal plan.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation

What tenancy length do I need?

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.

Should I stay in catered student accommodation?

This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.

What is a guarantor and do I need one?

A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.

Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?

Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.

What bills will my rent include?

If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.

What is purpose-built student accommodation?

Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.

Will my student accommodation be furnished?

Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

The food in Rutherford made me want to cry. I guess the rest was fine - I lived in Parkwood.

I commute from off campus, but Rutherford has seemed great when I've been there, it takes time to get used to where you're going because it's a bit of a maze, but other than that it's good.

Rutherford college is a more budget option, it isn't the most modern and the interior is quite a maze, but the cheaper rent is excellent especially since you get a daily meal voucher for living there. The flats are extremely basic with shared toilet and shower facilities with a kitchenette that has a sink, fridge and kettle. The rooms are also basic but come with everything you need, including a sink.

Good value for money- but would suggest getting the £1000 meal deal- kitchenette is broom cupboard size or smaller so you really wont be able to cook at all. Would have preferred being self-catered as a proper kitchen would have made it a lot easier to socialise as a communal area- my flat all have to squeeze together in the hallways or into our rooms so no chance of sitting on an actual chair. If money was not an issue I would have chosen Tyler or Keynes :) But Rutherford has meant that my student loan pretty much covers everything this year so no complaints :)

If you are looking to socialize then this is not the accommodation for you. The reason being is because there is no kitchen and usually the kitchen is where everybody gathers round to get to know each other.

Living in the college was overall a fantastic experience, either breakfast or dinner is included in the price and the entire college is kept very well maintained. That being said, there are no social spaces for residents apart from the dinner hall (closed at night) meaning residents must congregate in the hallways or less than generously sized rooms when socailising.. It is also worth mentioning that cooking facilities include a singular microwave for each 7 man hall. That is all. There is however 2 showers per hall and one toilet, and more than enough washing machines and driers, which is generous.

Piss poor accommodation, at least 20 years outdated, no kitchen (advertised as including a kitchenette which was their way of saying microwave) forcing you to eat at the disgustingly overpriced dining hall.. The dorm staff regularly go into your room and "confiscate" possessions to never see them again

One of the cheapest accommodation on campus, 8 students per corridor with 2 showers, housekeeping coming twice a week but the general state of the corridor may be a bit rough. rooms with a sink, and enough place to put all your stuff. good ambiance, and in front of library

The actual hall is good, if kind of ugly (the rooms are good size etc). However the "Kitchen" space is stupidly small and everything broke. Its nice eating with your friends in the dining hall, but the hours it is open could be improved and better choices would be good.

Nice halls. Cleaner used to wash our dirty dishes everyday even though it wasn't her job to. Bathroom times didn't clash ever between 8 people. Amazing. Free breakfast however only 1 person in our halls woke up early for that. The timings are a bit early for students. Otherwise amazing college. Make sure you don't smoke in the room or you get charged £50 for smoking and if you cover the smoke detector you get charged £200 usually if caught. Can be £300 too

Its awful, don't live here. They only give you a kettle and a microwave to cook with unless you want to buy the questionable dining room food. You can only socialise in each others rooms or in the tiny corridor and the building itself is a drab maze. Worst accommodation at UKC minus Elliot. The only good part is that you are in between keynes, darwin and the library so you are pretty central.
