I moved to eliot from a self catered accommodation as it's my final year and did not want to worry about having to cook and shop and wash up while doing my final project and research. I didn't have high hopes when I applied as the general misconception is that the accommodation isn't very good but I was pleasantly suprised when I saw my room and am now very happy living here

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Only complaint is we have 1 toilet to share with 8 people, and the toilet doesn't even have a sink.
Full of ants and the staff simply do not care enough to help, they charge about £500 more a term than it is worth.

Eliot College is bang in the centre of campus so is close to all the facilities. It is one of the oldest colleges so rooms are smaller and it looks dated but it is clean and light and it's a great social hub with a good restaurant. Like all the colleges its all about the people you meet and live with you, luckily I made great friends and had a good experience at Eliot.
If you’re given Eliot college, don’t panic cuz it’s not that bad. Eliot college is not the cheapest accommodation, there’s cheaper ones in Darwin and parkwood; so if you really want a cheaper accommodation try requesting a change (when you got given the accommodation). Eliot college is located in the centre of everything, so you will be close to most of the facilities, e.g. library, venue and restaurants. Ngl the toilets and showers are grim, if you are lucky and have hygienic flat mates then you will be fine; but if you are unlucky like me the toilet will smell so will the corridor and the kitchen. The kitchen is very small containing a small fridge, a microwave and a cupboard with bin bags and recycling plastic bags; the cupboards could be dirty (again depends on your luck, because different cleaners are assigned to different flats and blocks). There’s not enough space here to write everything so contact me for further details, like showers and social spaces etc
Not as bad as I was told it would be. Rooms are white brick, good wardrobe space, large desk, and a sink. However, WiFi is nonexistent, as is the phone service, unless you’re at the very end of the corridor. Have to walk to Rutherford or elsewhere for food, however Mungos downstairs is highly recommended. The token system is actually fairly useful, make the most of the full £10 and stock up on snacks/drinks. Central campus, so close to most lecture theatres, the gym and the venue. The cleaners come weekly to clean the toilet, sometimes they vacuum too, but they rarely replace the loo roll so bring more! Nowhere really to socialise so making friends can feel like a huge task but just get on those group chats and meet up with as many people as possible.
Horrible experience. Oldest place in the area. The room is always hot. Place is filled with moulds. Radiators are always noisy as you will hear water travelling through pipes from room to room. 1 toilet to share between 8 people. Everything in the room is old. Far worse than items brought from thrift shop. The sink and desk are full of chewing gums under. The cupboard was already broken on the first night. It's hard to breathe in the room especially during the summer. The windows only open to small extent meaning you can never get fresh air. There is no kitchen. Only a small room no bigger than 55 cm width with a mini-microwave and a mini fridge that is full when filled with 4 bottles of milk. The beds are horrible and feel like sleeping on metal thus feel like prison environment. The bathroom is extremely thin and has width of 55 cm. Extremely smelly and has no windows at all let alone the flatmates that knock on the door all the time out of desperation.
Wifi access always good and maintenance always on hand to fix issues
My room had a leak on the day I moved in. The fridge froze my stuff more often than not. The window was very unsafe for someone suicidal.
At first i was not happy as it appeared small - however it was such a social hub and the people i met there were amazing. The facilities were good and the food lovely!
the food situation is very awful. avoid this accommodation to the extent you can because chances are you'll be left deprived of nutritious food which will affect your work and energy levels. the building looks like a prison and the layout is uncomfortable to be in and makes it more difficult to meet people. your mental health will be up and down due to feeling isolated and lonely. if it wasn't for my friends in turing i would have left this uni.
Eliot college is huge and you can get lost pretty easily at first. But it’s definitely gets better with time and the seminar rooms are very nice and spacious
Very run-of-the-mill accomodation. I had a double bed and en-suite toilet so I couldn't complain. I wasn't expecting a 5 star hotel. Certain people will be disappointed with their accomodation however. I lived in the Parkwood flats.
Unless you are lucky enough to live with good people, you'll be left feeling isolated and lonely. No common room or place to socialise so no opportunity to meet people outside your flat. No place to have pres if you are lucky enough to make friends. The food situation is bad, impossible to make healthy food and the food available on campus isn't healthy either unless you eat in Rutherford (which is tasteless). The rooms are okay but my mattress is really thin like a prison mattress, although my friend in the same flat has a normal sized mattress. The only really good thing I can say is that I like the location.
Hit or miss tbh, and sometimes these lads miss huh
Needs more social areas in parkwood
Do not pick this building as an option! Avoid living here at ALL costs! It’s like a prison and your mental health will surely suffer. I spent my entire first year unhappy and unable to socialise due to no common room. Take mine and my friends advice, just don’t do it!
Okay so the other reviews are pretty bleak but Eliot really isn't that bad, the whole catered aspect is a little annoying but you get money to spend each day which can get you one main meal or a couple of small meals if you make it stretch. It's a little annoying but going out to places to eat with friends is quite nice. The halls are a little dated but you get over that after literally a day. The accommodation depends on who you meet and I can say I've met some great friends here so it completely justified staying here. All in all, the accommodation isn't amazing but it's not as bad as people are making it out to be.
Awful, awful, bloody awful. The rooms are ok and the college is in a nice place though here are the negatives: There are two showers and one toilet to share between 7 people; one shower was tiny, the other was cold. The toilet was too small to sit down and close the door The whole place is demoralising. I honestly felt horrible living there and the only reason I stayed was because the other people trapped with me were great company I lost one stone while living there and couldn't cook myself anything other than pasta in the microwave because we only had a microwave; no oven, no stove, no nothing The whole place has a horrible atmosphere and I hated living there
nice and central so easy to get everywhere buy no social areas shared facilities not cleaned often
Disappointing kitchen area but great location
Just hoped I had a common room or actual kitchen so everyone in the corridor can chill together
Thick walls so better than average sound proofing, shame there was no real kitchen. Convenient location though!
There is no common room, judt have a kitchenette which is smaller than a cubical in the loos. The rooms are relatively big, but are very dated and crap... the location is central on campus but a long walk from town!
This place is full of mould and has no kitchen. Is impossible to make healthy meals for yourself and you must share a half sized fridge between 7 of you. The corridors are claustrophobic there is no social area to meet with others in and the walls are painted over bricks. Showers and toilet are all shared and basic/falling to bits. Almost every two leaks. I chose this accommodation because it's the cheapest and I thought 'ah it's only a year' but in the long run you probably spend more on food due to having the get microwave meals or eating out more, than you would spend on the extra grand for accomodation with a kitchen. Also the whole building is loud 24/7
Not catered yet no kitchen, no common room, one toilet and two showers between 7 people. Prison like feel to the accommodation
Fine for what you pay for but really lacking in the university experience. Also no kitchen = regret for the whole duration of your stay.
A good, central Hall of Residence that draws in a nice community, is a social area and is well centred for all university needs. However the Hall is lacking in kitchen facilities, and its area is small and confined.
there is no kitchen in the facilities. Also there is no social areas and so it is quite hard to meet people. There is only one bar in the building which is the only way to meet people but is awkward if you don't drink. On the plus side the location is close to all other uni buildings so you can get up 10 minutes before your lecture and still make it :-D
