East Slope’s accomodation is in a great location in terms of the university of Sussex, with classes all being within 5 minutes walking distance - it offers access to a 24 hour reception within walking distance along with a launderette, porter services and 2 main social spaces for the East slope centre. Each building also has a social space on the floor of your flat which can be used as a multipurpose room/study space. WiFi can be unreliable with speeds but campus WiFi is also available in most buildings.

Best accommodation experience I have ever had, just wish the prices were reasonable

Overpriced, tacky and cheap accommodation. Overcrowded with too many people in certain places. Rude security that will try get you in trouble or instigate situations.
To be very for a student who came to a new city not knowing anyone, being so close to campus was so good for me. And having a lot of other first years on campus was good for socialising
The picture posted is NOT an accurate representation of East Slopes at all. I’ve never seen this area and I live in East Slopes. Perhaps it is the back of a toilet facility. The accommodation is modern, spacious and colourful.
Excellent standard here, clean, bright and modern. Great wifi signal from East Slopes
constant construction and really bad wifi
This place is a dump. Half the time the wifi is out or there's no hot water.
The East Slopes accommodation is well-designed and modern. Great University, teaching standards and career opportunities are unmatched with any other university in the South East.
wifi is terrible, hot water is always out, and area is under constant construction
Campus is way too small and out of the way, not that many options for eating, and the conduct of the housing department with covid has been ATROCIOUS to say the least. Didn't receive any hot water for the first WEEK I lived on campus and housing kept saying it would send someone and only sent one two weeks later.
Belligerent housing staff and accounting. Won't allow us to leave or cancel the contracts despite the fact that there covid is spreading on campus FAST. About 200 students are rent striking right now
no fun, no learning, no support
My experience was pretty bad. Changed to Kent after the first year, which was a great move!! Join me at Kent
East Slope used to be known as the campus prison before they renovated it. Now its just a renovated prison. Housing services were the worst part of my uni experience. Constant construction on campus has driven me insane the whole year, and campus is not remotely close to Brighton. Rooms are tiny and laundry is inordinately expensive. Housing actually told me to borrow money from family members when I said I had to defer payment due to covid. They simply don't give a damn. This is a private corporation, not a university.
Inhumane, a truly inhumane experience.
Pretty much a prison. Rooms are much too small, wifi is crap and keeps disconnecting, laundry is ASTRONOMICALLY expensive. Amenities are terrible, hot water and heating go out regularly. And those living on the top floors have to climb 3 flights of stairs every time they want to get to their room. Stay far away.
Living on campus has been frustrating from the very beginning of the year. Some of the furniture was also worn out, and no trash cans are provided. The mattresses are very uncomfortable and it is impossible to sleep on them without something on top. The internet in halls is terrible. It cuts regularly during the day, is very slow, and the operators in charge of the internet (Optify and Eduroam) never respond to complaints about the internet. The heat is also constantly faulty during the winter months, which makes it unbearably cold. Last but not least, the conduct of the housing administration. Due to the covid epidemic, many students including myself have been facing financial difficulties and have been unable to leave campus. Many of us have not been able to pay on time due to other necessities. The housing department has constantly been sending us threatening emails trying to scare us into paying using strong language. This is immoral. I would advise anyone NOT to live on campu
Absolutely terrible accommodation experience. They charge us GBP 640/month. For that, the internet is ghastly slow and keeps cutting off. There is construction all day, and for about 50% of the time, there is no hot water. Housing cut off the heat prematurely, so a bunch of students including myself were left to freeze. The rooms are inconveniently small and many of the fittings and furniture are of such low quality that you'd think you'd maybe think you're in a shelter. The images on the website are made to look fancy and modern, but in reality these dorms are terrible. Moreover, the housing staff are abhorrent. During the covid crisis, many students have been going through financial difficulties and therefore have had to put off paying rent. Instead of cancelling rent for the students on campus who are stuck and have nowhere else to do, they send us threatening emails saying if you don't pay you do not graduate. Absolutely ghastly behavior from these people.
TELL A STORY, I SHOULD RELATE IT TO MY THERAPIST
haha disgusting! haha disgusting!
Awful. I was a pain all year through, no help, no assistance, disrespect
awful, awful, awful, awful, awful, awful...
Avoid it. Avoid it. in my opinion.
Absolutely horrible wifi, hot water was consistently absent, heaters dont work. Much too expensive to be reasonable.
East Slope is really lovely accommodation, although pricey! The kitchen and living area is cleaned once a week to a great standard, and ensuites are cleaned every 3 weeks. I have really liked living here, besides the ongoing issues with the flat mate next door to me smoking in her room. I made some amazing friends in my flat, which for me, improved my 1st year experience drastically. There is a whole separate social space located near reception, and a study room in your accommodation, which is lovely - but often not used for studying! The only major problem I had was with social support, housing office and student discipline all not taking the situation with the girl next door to me seriously. Be warned, if you have a problem with your flat mate, the university are not going to do anything about it. All of my flat sent complaints, got our parents to complain, and attended meetings, and still they did absolutely nothing besides politely asking her to stop...
The new East Slopes are a student Ghetto. Tiny rooms with insufficient storage and basics such as a dressing mirror. Had to buy my daughter two drawer units as there are none. Her food was stolen and many of the house mates were slobs. I wish I could post photos of the state of the place she had to live in. I know other blocks had food stolen as reception told me at check out. The vacuum cleaner was not empties and sweeping brushed broken, I left two packing boxes for my daughters kitchen equipment and someone stole them! She said that summed up the place, Before you pay for your children to live there ask a few questions like why the place is not cleaned and inhabited by thieves and filthy slobs they don;t act.
It’s barely livable like what others said. It’s really depending on your housemates, it’s unlucky that I met irresponsible housemates. Blocking toilets and left it for ppl to unblock it, maggots growing, dirty kitchen and toilets. It’s just gross. The water from the tap is not drinkable as well, it sometimes has mud and smells like really old pipe, I got diahorrea after drinking it. And the room, it’s boiling in May, when the sun goes down, it hits straight into your room and makes it boiling hot. If you open window, bugs and mouse could come in. Might as well lay on your bed and die in heat. Only 2 plugs as well in a room and already plugged with lamps. Limited spaces for storing stuff in the room.
This place would be good value for money if you didn't have to share your home with rodents. I'm living here in 2017-18 currently a first year. If east slope is still available to live in next year you better avoid it like the plague, if not you're stupid. This place was meant to be knocked down years ago, and they say they are going to once we all move out at this end of this 2nd term. The cleaning is poor and the porters never get anything done. I'm disgusted at the living situation, EAST SLOPE IS NOW COMPLETELY UNLIVEABLE!
It's like prison, just like others mentioned. There are only two sockets in the room, for two person, but already with lamp plugged in. Only one wardrobe and one drawer, which is worse than my lower school boarding house. Sharing 2 toilets between 10 people, probably worse than in prison. The fridges smelled like hell when I first arrived, and the kettle was rusty.
It’s barely liveable here. Walls crumbling, ceiling tiles falling down, furniture is all falling apart, toilets are horrible, just horrible here.
East slope in my opinion was a place that i wish i could have avoided but i couldn't as i was enetering via adjustment which meant i was just thrown in east slope obviously. It is a very sociable place but from what i've seen, this is only the case if you're a drinker or partyer. Nicknamed the 'slums or ghetto' area by many people in other accomodations, i coudn't agree more because it was really dirty most of the time outside and inside. Also, the condintions inside my flat were so terrible, it felt like the place was falling apart. Stayed there for two months and left as soon had the chance. Only positive is the central location on campus.
East Slope is the place to be! Honestly it more than makes up for anything you can complain about - it's not perfect, but you will make the best friends here and have everything you need, I wouldn't live anywhere else for the same rent. Live here while you can, you'll never find another place like it <3
Brighton's biggest todge situated in this slope, sloppy ucks you won't find anything badder. Rum bombs invented here #Omizzle
I was put into East Slope when it wasn't my first choice and now I don't think I'd want to stay anywhere else! East Slope is placed perfectly on campus (close to bars, bus stops and lecture halls) and looks most like a normal flat in my opinion! If you're not fussy about sharing a shower with people or not having a sink in your room then this is such a good choice and you will save a lot of money (Especially if you're a First Generation Scholar because I pay £35 a week). It is so easy to make tonnes of friends because houses are so close together and people are super friendly so a lot of the time we'll find ourselves wondering around the slope and going in other flats and making friends! Reviews I read before coming here spoke about noise issues but they haven't been a problem so far, once in your room it is pretty quiet!

Feels like you live in a prison cell. Avoid at all costs.
East Slope is a great budget option, with decent sized rooms and basic facilities. It is the most sociable of all the housing and is perfect for anyone not too fussy but looking for a good time.
The lowest of the low. Really cheap but it really isn't worth it if you don't have friends in better accommodation where you can go to
East slope is a brilliant hall for socialising and the closest halls to everything on campus with a walk of approx 2mins. Noise was a problem occasionally but calling the porter and sending in a complaint fixed this problem most of the time. Cleaning was also a slzifht problem but this was due to housemates not cleaners.
I loved my time in East Slope, the way the halls are set out allowed me to make friends quickly and easily, and the porters were extremely friendly. Can't fault it!
Best year of my life hands down. It may be scruffy on the surface but its without a doubt the best place to be on campus. Wouldn't change it.
It is such a fun place to live but you have to be okay with a lot of mess and with mould and spiders etc.
Boot camp for life, those that didn't like it couldn't handle the slope!
Not the best of places but great value for money and best for socialising
Have a friend in East Slope so you can visit. Don't make the mistake, as I did, of actually living here.
Great experience. It was cheap, good for socialising, got cleaned weekly and rooms were nice
Unfortunately getting knocked down this year. The University of Sussex slums, but so brilliant. No experience like living in East Slope
East slope does what it says on the tin. Yes it really is as bad as everyone says it is, and there's no wonder it's previously been described as the favelas. So noisy you can never sleep. If you want parties nearly every night then this place is for you. If, however, you value your beauty sleep, then East slope is not the place to go.
Stayed in east slope for my first year of uni and had a great time.
East Slope is legendary...not the cleanest, or prettiest, but it's got character. Wooden beams and you can sit on the roof and watch the beautiful sunset.Cheap as well, about £80 a week...that's because it's falling down.
Cheap and cheerful but the best atmosphere and people. Had a great time at east slope.
East slope isn't as bad as it looks, its cheap and is the most social place at Sussex.
The buildings were old but if you feel like you'd prefer to live in a community rather than living in one of the brand new sterile buildings then East slope is for you.
No comfy sofas/ living room- dining room and kitchen are the only social spaces. Wouldn't have gone for any other accommodation though
fun and stuff woo east slope massive
Cheap and cheerful! Really sociable, a bit run down but you don't really care about that in the end
The halls themselves were fine, but only one shower between you and no social space besides the kitchen/dining room. Socially, in less you're a druggy, this won't be the place for you
For £80 a week, this is fine. Working kitchen appliances, fun night life, friendly people etc. But the best aspect to this is the field behind East slope. Amazing view from the hill and great to chill on with friends.
You won't regret living in east slope. Next to the bar and co-op and best halls on campus to meet people and av it large
Love it! Very sociable and friendly. Might not be the prettiest, but you won't regret it.
