Mediocre, everything is mediocre. If you want to study Illustration, its okay i guess. The facilities are mediocre, most of the time you will work in a big room filled with 30-40 people. The room is very messy and crowded. The course is a bit confusing and not organized. Graphic Design course is more clear and organized. Illustration course does gives you a lot more freedom but sometimes I got stuck with too much freedom and no guidance. The library St Peter Library is so sad, old and small. The location is near city centre but that makes the campus small and not have a lot of facilities. The workshops are fine like book arts, but most workshops are packed in small rooms. And also, I think Critical and Contextual Studies are useless. The lectures are boring. The cafe/canteen is small and overpacked especially lunch time. Some people have to eat while standing because some people study/stay on the canteen and table, they aint even eating. They should make a room for people to study.

Brighton University has several campuses both in Brighton and in Eastbourne. Sports facilities in Brighton and Eastbourne are awesome. Lectures and tutorial support are also outstanding like any course you only get out of it what you put in. Student and disability support second to none. UoB is a great place to study by the seaside.

The university is also a nice campus and easy to move to different classes and can play few games of table tennis in between. There could be improvement on sports clubs to access them more easily and with less price.

This review is based upon my experience as a Humanities student at Brighton.. Though I have met and interacted with many nice people at this university, who are clearly passionate and hard working, overall my experience at Brighton has been terrible. Blatant and excruciating bias aside, the facilities for the Humanities students in comparison with other departments is laughable. Whilst other students such as those at Grand Parade, Moulsecoomb and Falmer have nice facilities in posh buildings, the humanities department is almost relegated to an entirely different building with noticeably less funding and attention. The contact time is also laughable. Whilst in the first year you have an almost standard amount of contact time, this decreases as you progress through the years. I am in my third year and have a total official contact time of 6 hours a WEEK, however, this more like 4 1/2 hours a week.

The student services are good because they have great staff which saves them a bit. However computers are beyond s*** and you're likely to lose your work a good few times. Facilities are really poor and they don't take the concerns of their students seriously. Advise NOT going to this uni unless you want to give yourself a great deal of extra stress and feel like you're mostly teaching yourself and constantly having to save yourself from issues. Not worth the money.

I went to the University of Brighton in 2002 to study modular science - Chemistry and Computing. I wanted to learn about programming in C and C++, Visual Basic and to learn about the internet. I chose this course because of my interest and experience in chemistry and my aspirations to work in computing The chemistry aspect of the course was ok I suppose. But instead of learning about cutting edge computer science we were forced to learn one of the lecturer's pet projects. A language called ADA. Ever heard of it? Nope. Totally useless and obsolete by the time we had graduated. No internet, no useful programming languages of any kind. A total waste of time for everyone involved. I managed to graduate, but had great difficulty finding anyone to employ me afterwards. I had a great time in Brighton, and made friends. But the educational value of my studies at the University of Brighton in retrospect was basically zero.

I started university with a passion for my subject. I’m here now, about to drop out having put myself through the worst two years of my life. With little of the contact time I was initially told I’d have, there is clearly favouritism between some students and tutors. I found myself alone in my workspace with no tutors or sometimes even other student to help. It’s a really unproductive atmosphere. When I went for help concerning mental health issues and the effects it has on my work, I was first acknowledged and given sympathy and told ‘get better soon’- clearly not realising I’ve been ill for years and don’t have a common cold. I was passed from one person to another and no one gave any interest. Instead I’ve had tutors yell, swear and laugh when they see I’m embarrassed or uncomfortable. It may not have been done deliberately but yet now I’m scared of even going into uni without panicking and getting myself in a mess. I was so optimistic and I’ve been let down.

The worst university!!! Extremely bad organised, constant module cancellations (including the whole department of Foreign Languages), they don’t tend to make you use their ‘better’ classrooms for lessons, instead you end up in one of the huts, which are terrible, cold in winter and hot in spring/summer. They don’t care about the students’ experience at all, all they care about is appearence, to attract students each year, and the service is poor! Some good staff, some is unhelpful, absent student union, food is disgusting, but wifi is great! If you have the choice and want to learn something, don’t go to Brighton Uni!

Poor, very poor. I have 2 modules this semester and 2 next with a dissertation - standard. So for building pathology we have had 45 minutes teaching time for semester 1. That's it. We had 2 guest lectures from companies that prompted their companies, no teaching a video off the bbc! The lecturer is not even a building surveyor. Where has my money gone because I have nothing to show for it. I have little experience a d uni should give me some foundation but no. I am embarised by how little I have been taught and have to offer. We have an exam in Jan, I don't have a topic to focus on. If you can avoid this uni then do, some of my friends are having far better experiences at Westminster - go there. Seriously please think about it. Yes they are building this and that but don't be blinded by this. Think smart, don't go here.

The facilities are good around the uni and the library at Moulescoombe is great. There are many cafes which are quite expensive but still good to socialise and eat/drink. I didn't study in town but I know from visiting a few times that the Fine Art spaces are great as you get your own studio space. I can't really vote on the clubs, SU or careers service because I didn't utilise them much. After we signed up for the societies etc most of us didn't hear much back and they became a thing of the past. The university doesn't have any clubs or bars so we just went out into town, but we'd get student nights where drinks and entry prices were cheaper. (The Arch and Concord 2 had some sick DnB nights etc).

Brighton is a great university for arts in my experience. As a history of art and design student who began their career at a different university, the course for me has been informative and varied, covering a range of subjects other than history of art such as politics and psychoanalysis. The down side to Brighton is the lack of community. I feel as though this is due to the very few number of halls of residence available where people tend to meet and congregate. There are also very few societies which again is probably contributing to this along with the campuses being so spread out! Brighton has incredible pastoral care. The support system is incredible and that should be given an 11/10. The tutors are all very helpful and enthusiastic however some aren’t so great at replying to urgent emails which is another down fall. My time at Brighton has allowed me to mingle with people I would never have otherwise met. The university is very expressive and fantastic for an arts/humanities degr

My review concerns the School of Environment and Technology, and not the university. I think that this is fair. So, i was studying Civil Engineering and the selection of this School was the worst mistake in my life. Quality Teaching? This is a joke. Lectures was just an obligation for most Lecturers, just to earn some money. They dont care if you learn or not? Support? Another joke. No one cares if you face problems, if you die or you live. Career Services? Even in the School they dont value the degrees that they give, how do you expect that employers will? Also, no support in your career. THEY DONT CARE. It is that simple. Students, do the best for yourselves and select another University. Parents dont trust the future of your children, their welfare to these people.

I have been student in the School of Environment and Technology . It was really a traumatic experience. I do not recommend to anyone this place. It is not well organized, the staff and the Lecturers are not interested about you and your progress, If you face a problem no one will support you, you dont know who to approach and of course if you decide to speak to the Head of school about your problems she will not accept you. Guys dont waste your money at this place, dont waste your time and dont waste your future. If you have an opportunity select another University. I have graduated from this University and it is like i give bad review to myself, but i think that i had to give my sincere review and the same advice that i would give to my best friend, to my brother etc. So if you can avoid this place.

Had looked forward to Uni life, living with the coast so near, a big bonus and a job in my ideal career beckoned. However, after 3years of a negative experience and all that money spent AND not graduating...i was surprised how openly racist or sexist a my lecturers were. Uni should be a positive experience, but the racism i suffered, left me with an awful experience. Sooo glad i quit....and never looked back. Wish i'd skipped uni and worked instead or travelled...

My time at this university was short (only a year) but, during the PGCE, staff were consistently passive-aggressive and unhelpful. They would read off powerpoints and give inconsistent subject delivery. For example, we were given a lecture on behaviour management in schools TWO MONTHS after we started our classroom placements! Alumni support is even worse. Staff are rude and seem patently committed to giving one word answers and refusing to give you the information you need.

I was extremely excited to be part of Brigthon university, everything was going well through the application proccess. They were very organised and kept me informed for everything except for the most important thing. They did have no enough people to run my Master and just let me know two weeks before starting the course. By that time I had already enrolled online, had my loan accepted, my place confirmed for the international week plus I had already quit my job (a job I liked) . As a mature student it was big effort to prepare myself financially and professionally to be able to study full time. They have no idea how this late notice have affected myself in many different ways, specially emotionally. I have to say that the head of the school of arts apologised for this in many ocasions and spent a considerable time with me trying to find a solution. Unfortunately is too late so I have to wait a year and find a new job. I think they should look at this for the future.

It's a really awful university. There are spelling mistakes in almost all presentations, frequently no mark schemes, inconsistent marking, very little feedback, boring lectures and sometimes tutors don't even turn up to tutorials. The facilities are very poor, there aren't enough computers for everyone and even when you do get one they're grubby and don't seem like they're ever cleaned. There aren't a great deal of societies here and the social isn't that great because 50% of people have to go into private letting rather than dorms (they have a shortage apparently). I'm doing a computer science degree and overall its just a total mess. I hear it's good for art but if you're doing anything technical definitely do not come here - it's 89/100 on this website for a good reason.

I'm a student in the school of Phamaceutical and Biomolecualr Sciences student studying at Moulsecoomb campus. I don't really get on with a lot of the people here as I'm very nerdy - there is more of a party vibe, however I have met some wonderful people on other courses. My lecturers are AMAZING and having such a small cohort means loads of contact time and I am able to make any changes I want to see in the course, which has given me a much more fulfilling experience (in addition to giving me lots to write on my CV). Facilities are great and we get a lot of lab time, so have excellent employment prospects.

I absoultely love attending university in Brighton. The uni has amazing facilities and the staff are extremely knowledgeable in thier subject fields. The uni has many amazing societies from Football, Rugby, Trampolining, Archery and even a beard society! All are active and I have met some of my best friends in these societies. Brighton as a city is stunning. It is very student orientated and the beach/lanes are amazing to keep you busy on the weekends! I would recomend this uni to anyone. Brighton is hilariously (or not!) spending money on the wrong sectors. The libraries only have 2 staff members, and 50 (if that) computers. Books are hard to come by as most only have 2 copies so you might as well try the public library. unlike other uni's lecturers will charge you for in class handouts and will ignore you out of hours. They are also given up to 4 working weeks to reply to emails! (Which is the only way to book appointments!!!) my suggestion is to stay away as the only good things are the societies on offer which all other unis have too.

Outside of the social aspect (Which can be done independent of the uni completely). This University is terrible, the pass rate is abysmal. Staff are un-careing and useless. Many will just read off of the lecture slides and give you no extra information, reducing lectures useless as they are provided online. Other lecturers are clearly at the university soley for the research positions. Being a lecturer seems to be an incovenience for multiple staff members and many will NOT even see you DURING their office hours.Staff are given FOUR weeks to reply to email queries as standard by he uni admins so if you have any queries about any work, you will be screwed. There are also load of additional charges. You dont get any credit for printing when you start. The Library is also very under financed and there are not enough computers and many books will need to be ordered online as they are not avalible in the Library Recomendation: Avoid this place! I transfered out and havent looked back.
