University of the West of England is a modern university that received university status in 1992. The university is spread over three campuses that are all a short bus ride from each other and over the last five years they have invested over £300 million into state-of-the-art facilities. Here’s another thing that Bristol has in abundance: shops! Pick out a vintage bargain at the stalls in St Nick’s market or in one of the shops on Park Street or Gloucester Road. Bristol is such a vibrant, diverse city filled with passionate people. I’ve heard Bristol referred to as the “France of England” because people are not afraid to protest for things that matter to them! There are so many delicious restaurants and cafes - my favourite is East Village Cafe - and each part of the city has its own character, for instance Clifton and Bedminster are so different you’ll feel as though you’ve travelled to a whole new city! Bristol is a hub of creatives, so if you’ve a keen interest in art, fashion or music, this is the place to be. I’m not a huge fan of musicals but I know that the Hippodrome is one of the most famous theatres in the south west. There are lots of green spaces such as Clifton Down and Ashton Court, so peace and quiet is never too far away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. read more

Its a nice city, but it's become quite expensive to live here. It has a good range of shops in the center, but if you are looking for supermarkets its largely made up of small Tesco's Express' which isn't ideal nowadays if you're a student on a budget. There are a few Lidl's and Aldi's dotted about, but that can require travelling a bit. Buses can be really unreliable some days, they are meant to turn up and they don't show up or if they do it's 30 minutes late, other days they are arriving every few minutes, otherwise it's ok. read more

I have to say that MH improves my life quality in Bristol because I do not worry about any errands except studying! I am not concern about that my food was stolen cas there was individual fridge for everyone. I do not need to worry about clean in a week routine cas there was a timely and professional house keeping service every week. The apartment was so brilliant! Every friend who has visited my apartment praises here a lot and expresses their envy to me for the prompt service for any time once we need, even the gym and entertainment place underground. The staff, sorry I didn’t ask their name, but I appreciate them so much cas all of them take care of us all the year! I will recommended MH to anyone who are gonna come! You can focus on your stuff, learning, working, without dealing with any errands. read more

Bristol is an expensive city, but you can budget and not spend too much. 2nd &3rd year housing can be expensive, but as long as you do your research you can find nice cheap places. There’s so many varieties of food, your dietary requirements will be fulfilled and the food is always good! The nightlife is amazing, everyone’s so chill and having fun and it’s such a vibrant city that there’s always something to do. Shopping is good too, there’s Cabot Circus and (a bit further away) Cribbs Causeway. I’ve always been able to find everything that I’m looking for. The buses are really prompt. There’s the U1, which is free for 1st year students, which goes from city centre to stoke Bishop. There’s also many train stations and the tickets are about £2 read more

For a muslim student like me halal food is not as widely offered as ai would prefer it to be. Moreover, Bristol’s nightlife ceases to exist cafes wise after 7pm, and all that is open is clubs and pubs which for a muslim like me not only is it not preferable to be in these places but also not drinking and being around people who drink is really not fun and completely awkward. I cannot stress enough how much of a social restriction and misery the no-drinking rule I live by has done to me. Nevertheless, I will always abide by it. read more

Shopping experience is really nice, especially around Cabot circus! For first years, some bus lines are free which is convenient. Great place to live. My halls were in the city centre (Waverley House, Riverside) so I was pretty much in the middle of it all. Loads of places to go for a night out and the music scene is really good. Cabot Circus is really close if you're in the city centre, and Broadmead has loads of shops. Big ASDA is a 15 min walk away and there's a Tesco Metro in the city centre too. Loads of independent cafe's and places to eat out, especially round the harbour area. read more
