Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Fantastic room! Clean, comfy, and well-designed. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend for a pleasant stay.
Overall a good accommodation, very close to my uni. Sky Lounge is a good common space, where I can spend time and relax, or bring my friends. The only problem is WIFI in my room, which they are still fixing (two weeks in).
It's a very great accommodation! The room's are super nice and there are wonderful staff! (Speicial shout out to Wilson & Elliot! They are AWESOME)
It's an excellent experience to live in the building as a student. The service team's response to various questions and requests is very timely. Many activities are organised by the team to create a happy big family for all students.
Portchester House is really nice to live in! The bus stops and Sainsbury are next to the building. Really convenient!
Portchester House is an amazing place to live! It is close to everything while also having a bit of separation from central areas. Also, the grocery store is right next to the building and that makes for very convenient shopping.
The mattress of the bedroom was not good, the second elevator was not usable for weeks and therefore I could not go to the underfloor to throw litter and waste. In addition, they told me in the beginning that I have the possibility of extending my residency if I would like to, but instead when the time came they told me that I could not extend and therefore I have to leave!
I had a great 1-year stay at Portchester House: the team has been helpful and nice, the property was very well kept up, and the location is ideal - between zone 1 and 2, which allows for a relatively low price in comparison with estates located in more central areas, while still allowing for proximity with central London. It is still quite a high price for the surface of the studios, but this is due to London's crazy estate market... It has been overall a very good experience at Portchester House, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has to move in London for a while.
