All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Hi. Thank you for your review. We are happy to hear that you are satisfied with the living arrangements at our Chesterman House Village. We would like to hear more about your experience and so would politely ask that you send your feedback to our contact team at contact@campuslivingvillages.co.uk so that we can look into this further for you. Thanks.
I’ve had good experience in this house mostly because it’s very calm. I do wish we had prettier social spaces and more opportunities to meet and interact. The internet is very VERY bad (I read reviews before I moved here and thought “how bad can it be?” Trust me, I ate my words). Most of the reception team sucks, except for one person on the day team and one on the night team who are nice and helpful, but when they’re not there… It’s close to school, so if you have tons of classes it’ll be useful (make sure you check in your welcome package before that). And it’s very well connected via the overground and buses (less than a 10 minute walk to get to 2 train stations and the buses are right across the street).
Hi. Thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear that you had a positive experience staying at our Chesterman House village.
If you have the option of renting a flat, don't miss it. With about 200 pounds per week you can have a much better experience than the one you will have in this crappy building. You always have to tell everything to them at least 4-5 times. And don't think that you won't need their maintenance team. Water goes off, radiator doesn't work, electricity is not stable, they can't even make sure that they have enough trash bags! It's near to university. But the neighborhood is not safe. Don't get me even started with wi-fi! It is not stable and if you are a designer or a programmer, you will get crazy. They will do nothing about it. They will give you paradoxical answers untill you get exhausted of asking whatever you were asking for. But they are serious about your rent. Some of us are on strike to discuss these problems. But they even won't negotiate.
Thank you for your review!!
Please don't come. I really regret to decided to live hear. There are more cheap, nice rooms near here. Paying 177£ per week sharing a kitchen with 8ppl (no cleaning service), awful small single bedroom will make you depressed. This is not a life. Feel like cheated by school accomodation.
