What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

I’ve been living in a Club Studio here for three years now, which says a lot about how much I like it. The rooms are a great size, and overall, I think it’s good value for money. Any issues I’ve had (which haven’t been many) have been fixed really quickly by the staff and maintenance team. The only major problem was when the heating system went down for about two weeks, but management handled it well. They kept us updated with emails, and while there were hot water cut-offs during the day, it was fine at night when it mattered most. The location is a huge plus—it’s close to both universities, the city centre, and loads of shops. Compared to places like Ranmoor and Endcliffe, this is a better option, especially for first-years who want to be closer to everything. The building itself looks nice and modern, and the staff are great. Sophie and Louise are always super helpful, and Junior from security is really friendly. The place also feels safe, which is a big deal.

The environment and location are very good. It only takes about 10 minutes to walk to the Diamond and 5 minutes to walk to the Moor Square. It is very convenient for me. This apartment also has many social areas including a game room, karaoke room and a pool table and mahjong, and the reception staff are very friendly. The most important thing is the facilities in the room, such as the wardrobe and table are very new, there is a lot of storage space, in the bathroom：hot water is hot enough, and the Wi-Fi signal is very good. There is also security on duty at the reception of this apartment 24 hours a day, which also ensures our safety. In addition, there are some activities during different festivals. Living at Cosmos has been great. The staff are really helpful whenever I need something or if I forget my key card, plus there’s always someone available 24/7. The library is super convenient, especially during exam week. The gym is accessible anytime and has all the basic equipment, including a Smith machine and cable machine. If you're into basketball, there's an indoor half-court where residents often get together for a game. The karaoke and cinema rooms are great places to hang out with friends, and if you're bored, you can borrow board games from reception. Personally, I love my room (a 6-bed studio). It is a perfect mix of having your own space while still being able to hang out with your flatmates. The vibrant colours and the many storage spaces are also a plus too! It is also just a 10-minute walk to the diamond, so very convenient.

I joined cosmos in my third year of university. I moved from studio accommodation and wanted to make more friends and I made friends with my flatmates and I've enjoyed my two years of staying here. the staff here are so amazing and friendly. everytime I walk through the doors, they have a smile and welcome me. the security guards at night are the most amazing people in the world; sometimes I go down and have a chat with them sometimes ehen I cant sleep. If you're thinking of living here, I would totally suggest it.

I came to live at cosmos in my third year of university after living in both halls of residence and a student house, I came to cosmos with the hope of making more friends and living closer to university. I had the option to move into my flat with someone I already knew as well as 6 other new people and I have enjoyed it so much that I chose to stay the following year. The cosmos staff are very helpful and they always try and organise events to allow you to socialise with other residents. The facilities are great and there's plenty of places to socialise with your flatmates too. The rooms are small but perfectly formed and the kitchens are spacious. I would recommend cosmos to people who are looking for a nice modern flat in the centre of town.
I have stayed here for 2 years now. It is in an incredible location next to essential shops and easily commutable to both Hallam and Uni of Sheffield. The reception staff are lovely and emails are answered promptly and effectively. If you have any maintenance issues, they are resolved in a timely fashion. The communal areas are kept clean and there are many social spaces and places to hang out with friends that aren't just sitting in someone's room. The amenities are excellent with fast wifi to be able to study.

Cosmos Fusion Sheffield is a lovely student accommodation that meets all the needs of a student. The social spaces are always great places to study or hangout and l often invite friends to join since it's so nice. Ine facilities, such as the gym and bistros, are also great and incredibly convenient after a long day. The staff are so welcoming and don't shy away from having friendly chats too. Definitely would recommend it as a student as it's great value for money, especially in comparison to other options around the area.
One of the best student accommodations in Sheffield.
Since I've come to Cosmos a a first year student I can say it's been a top tier living experience so far. The room is so amazing that it even feels like I'm in a 5 star hotel and the whole place is just so homely and staff are lovely and welcoming. It is definitely worth the £138 a week that I'm paying for. I am looking forward to rebooking again for September 2025/26. What stands out for me the most is the selection of great facilities facilities, that us students have access too from the games room, to the lovely library study area to the bistro kitchens and the gym. In my opinion Cosmos is the best student accommodation in Sheffield and I'm proud to be a current resident living here. I have also recommended Cosmos to a family member who is starting at Sheffield Hallam in September and a few of my friends. Coming to live here has proven to be my best decision, as I am getting a good nights sleep every night and my flatmates are respectful and clean. I'm happy to call Cosmos home.
Lived here in my 2nd year and my placement year and will probably rebook for my 3rd year, the rooms are so nice, love the concept of social studios as I’m not fully alone but I don’t have to clean up other peoples kitchen mess, the heating actually works unlike other accommodations, rooms are modern, bed is comfy, every room has a TV, washing facilities great, lots of social spaces, colours are warm and cozy, near aldi and right on the Moor, the only thing I dislike is being in D block it is a bit of a trek everyday to get out of the building from my room however after being broken in to in previous accommodations I understand it is for safety. If I could I would continue to live here even when I’m no longer a student.
After weighing up and contacting over 40 other student accommodation places in August when I was looking for a place to stay, I have genuinely found Cosmos to be the best value for money in Sheffield. This is why: The accommodation itself was built in 2021 - this means that unlike some of the dingy Unite Students block built in the 90s when building regulations were different, Cosmos actually has things like e.g. cavity wall insulation, pretty well soundproofed rooms (though if your neighbour watches TV or if someones arrived home/parties in the kitchen you can hear it), modern boilers/lifts/etc. I managed to book an ensuite room with all bills included in a 7-bed flat for £110/week. I genuinely could not find another place which was as cheap but also as newly built - your only other option for this price range is renting a room in a cramped 200-year-old terraced house share It is very well located. The Moor is 3 mins walk away, so shopping, going to the gym, etc, is really easy.
This Accomodation is really comfortable and also very neat. It is also very affordable and the spaces are really pretty and the rooms are also really pretty compared to other accomodations. The location is also good, it’s just in between Hallam and uni of, it’s also near to the moor area and where you can get your groceries or go shopping. The staff are also really nice and accommodating. The social spaces are really cool, you can bring your friends over and have a nice game night or karaoke. Study spaces are really comfortable and have a great atmosphere for studying which really needed especially for exams. Any students thinking of coming here I truly recommend, you won’t regret your decision.

Great location, friendly staff, spacious rooms and great facilities however some things take a while to get fixed and not provided with a kettle or a toaster.
I find it to be good value for money as I currently pay £155 per week for a studio, which is quite reasonable compared to other options in the city. Given the price and the facilities provided, I am satisfied with what I get. The location is convenient especially for students like me whose faculty is based around The Diamond and Broad Lane, as it’s only about a 10-15 minute walk. However, if you need to go to the Students' Union, it might take a bit longer. There was a hot water and heating issue in the whole building around October or November. While the hot water was fixed within a day, the heating issue took nearly a month to resolve. Apart from that, management has been reliable, and the parcel system is efficient that I can usually collect my deliveries shortly after they arrive. The cleanliness is well-maintained, with staff cleaning the staircases and hallways daily. They are also very friendly and always greet me when I pass by.
Ive stayed in a few accommodations for my time at uni and always came back to Cosmos. For the price you get a much better experience than most places. its clean, modern and allows me to live with my friends and feel comfortable. Its not always easy moving away from home but theres always friendly staff to make your experience better and run more smoothly. We had a few issues when moving in to do with cleanliness but the staff were more than willing to sort it and extremely apologetic so it was sorted before we had fully moved in!

My favorite part of Cosmos is the story den, it’s the best place to study, read a book or just chill. Otherwise, the location is ideal since it’s in the city centre, plus the view from my room is just incredible. The staff are always lovely and quick to respond to any queries.

It is so worth the money to live here! Especially as a final year student myself, having a library in close quarters makes my life a lot easier. The security are the loveliest people, one guy even played the piano with my partner after a night out and his talent was insane! All the extra amenities that you get for free are just an extra bonus. As a girl, it makes me feel a lot safer living somewhere with special key cards needed to enter doors and having security 24/7 makes me feel a lot more relieved. The staff are also amazing and are prompt with solutions when issues occur. Location is great, I never have to pay extra money on taxis after a night out because it’s all within walking distance, food shop is 2 minutes away as is majority of the shops like River island and JD as well as a cinema and restaurants no more than 5 minutes away walk away. Cleaners ,bless them, always work so hard and make sure everywhere is clean and the general upkeep is great.

I am Jan intake student in Sheffield hallam university it is very close and worth for the money spending for accomodation, due to its ambience.
Lovely accommodation, slightly small rooms, but if you like cosy bedrooms they are great. Kitchens NEED more fridge/freezer space (2 fridges for 8 people in my flat, not enough). Pretty clean, basketball courts and social spaces are good, but binstore is miles away if you’re in B block. Kind of pricy, but overall would recommend.

I wanted my own space for my final year of university, so I opted for a studio. I am so happy that I chose Cosmos as there is everything I need and more, not only in my studio, but the accommodation as a whole. All of the staff are lovely and helpful, there are quiet study spaces, social spaces, gaming, hosting, a gym, fun events.. if i could I would never leave the accommodation! The location is perfect as the Moor is just across the road, while also being a short walk to university. Overall, I am very pleased with my stay at Cosmos so far, and wish that I had stayed here throughout my whole time at university!

Unbelievably friendly and kind staff, really love the location, makes commuting to university really easy and the study spaces are super cosy. Love the studios, I needed more space as a post graduate student, the units are the perfect size and the studios have nice views out with big windows and alot of natural light.

I’ve lived here for two years now and I will be living here until I graduate because the the accommodation is safe and they staff always here and they are very welcoming and helpful there’s social events every now and then, where you can come in and see/talk to other students and there’s a lot of facilities here we have a gym,playground,rooftop,TV room,very cosy study area and a lot more where you can book and enjoy your time with friends.I never really had a problem here and one of the most important thing that made me choose COSMOS is that they have 24/7 Security. The location is perfect it is in the city centre so everything you need is nearby.

Good location near to both universities as well as main areas of Sheffield and transport links. Rooms are sizeable, as is the rest of the flat, with plenty of storage and the kitchen is well equipped.

I really enjoy living in this apartment. The environment is beautiful, and the location is excellent—it’s close to the city centre, markets, and schools. The place is always clean, and I often see staff members maintaining it daily. There are also regular events, which make the community feel lively. The apartment has many entertainment facilities, including mahjong tables, a snooker table, arcade machines, and a gym. I especially love the rooftop—it’s stunning and a perfect spot to watch the stars and fireworks.

My experience staying at cosmos has been perfect, it gave me shelter when I needed it the most, to continue my studies. It was more of a safe space where I could focus on my studies and work. It gave that warmly home feeling that I wanted in a place to stay. If I could do it all again I would choose Cosmos. Everyone is helpful from staff,security and the people that live here. Everyone is very respectful. Security is great and parcels and deliveries get handled perfectly nothing ever goes missing.

Although I keep to myself quite often, cosmos is an amazing student accommendation across my 3 years i’ve stayed here and in a flash it’s my last semester and last term with the amazing staff at reception and security at night. many events to socialise and a variety of entertainment for everyone varying from booking social spaces to public games such as mahjong to arcade games. highly recommended.
Great overall but when needed things fixed for maintenance was alittle slow and said they couldn’t fix it
Great accommodation to live in with well-furnished, maintained and awesome location. Friendly staff and a diverse mix of residents who are welcoming and always there for a chat. It’s a big reason why I’m signing again with Cosmos for the next academic year!

Ive moved in on the 21st September and I have been pleased with my stay here since. Every issue I have had in my room has been fixed by management properly. It is a nice community in here, where I can feel safe and comfortable. The location of this accommodation is also great. Not fat from any store or the university.

This accommodation is great for location, being incredibly central to everything. However it is not worth the money. The cleaning is not done within the flats at all leaving us all to hoover and clean not just our rooms but hallways and etc on our own. the heating was off for three weeks and we had no ways of being warm as they didn't offer heaters until the last days before they fixed the heating. However the facilities are amazing and the gym and library in particular are great spaces!!
I’ve been staying here for almost 3 weeks now, and unfortunately, my experience has been disappointing. The heater has not functioning at all during my stay. When I first arrived, the hot water also had issues. I also inquired about a portable heater as a temporary solution, but I was met with no options. I was only told that they were “working hard” to fix the problem. With the temperatures drop significantly, it is becoming unbearable, and I have noticed that some residents are falling ill due to the cold. I hope they resolve this situation soon.
They do not turn on the heating, claiming it’s externally controlled, and despite the cold weather, the heating has not been on for over a month. The management is incredibly inconsiderate, particularly the assistant manager, Ashleigh, who suggested that my health struggles are my own fault for not disclosing my condition before moving in. Had I known this accommodation was in such poor condition—where basic necessities like heating are not provided—I would have made different arrangements. For the price, there are far better options available. Its has only a good exterior, the rooms are small, and the flats lack basic necessities like a vacuum cleaner. The maintenance and complaint system is inefficient, and the only helpful staff members are those working the night shifts. International students should be particularly cautious before booking here. Think twice before choosing this place

I've been living at Cosmos for a while now. Its a lovely accommodation located reasonable within reach of the university campus, shopping and social amenities. The management team is incredibly helpful and prompt to help with almost anything a student could need when moving in as well as during the stay here. Common rooms are always clean and welcoming. A major perk are the social events, they given so many opportunities to just hang out with friends and meet new people too!
Cosmos is a great accommodation I moved in later in the academic year but it was worth it because cosmos is clean friendly and in such a good location for me. The beds and rooms are a good size and the staff is very helpful and kind with assisting you with things. Very very happy living here

The staff is very friendly and welcoming. However, the conditions of en suites are horrible. There is no deep cleaning of the facilities before the arrival of new tenants. When I checked in (09.09.23) And saw my room I was shocked. It was dirty and my mattress had a vomit stain on it. The wall next to my bed was so dirty that I touched it… and stocked to it. The kitchen was dusty and definitely not clean. The fridge smelled horrible and the whole freezer was covered in ice. Definitely will not recommend this place because of the unsanitary condition of life.

You will find comfort and everything else you need in cosmos and the staff are amazing especially Louise and Ashleigh they always come in with the brightest smiles, positive energy and will always get you laughing even if you don’t want you! Worst experience. Haven't seen such small rooms in 25 years of life. Have spent 7 months in depression just because of this accommodation. Life is hell after staying here. I will make sure to recommend students not to book a room in cosmos ever, eapecially in student life. It is iust fancy on the exterior, the size of the rooms will eat you pushing you to the corner. Maliciously disappointinh experience.
It is a shame you have not enjoyed your stay here. Our advertised photos are the actual rooms here, we do not imply they are any bigger than the actual photo. Our show rooms are actual rooms too in order for students to see exactly what they are getting before they book. If we have rooms available that students can upgrade into once they move into we are more than happy to facilitate this. 7 months would indicate you moved in in January, this would have been when the building was almost sold out and the rooms remaining would have been limited to chose from. Student Mental Health is taken very seriously here at Cosmos and if the way you were feeling had been flagged to us, we would have done everything we could to improve things for you. It wasn’t the worst experience I’ve ever had but it was far from great. The social spaces were great apart from the fact that you couldn’t play basketball or pool past 8 o’clock which I thought was a bit ridiculous considering students study during the day. Maintenance was just overall poor, it took 4 months to get a toilet seat fixed, and a long time to get the shower unclogged as they clog up quite quickly. A lot of the staff were just ignorant towards me and my friends, however some of the staff were polite and nice. Finally, when I first moved into my room the shared kitchen was dirty and far from clean and when I discussed this with my flatmates they said the staff blamed me for the dirtiness of the kitchen! I won’t be staying here again and I won’t be recommending this accommodation to anyone, nothing personal but my stay was very unpleasant.
Thank you for your review, we always appreciate hearing feedback on things we can improve on and change. The basketball times were changed mid year, the reason for this was students allowing people into the court that do not live here and causing anti social behaviour, this then was disturbing paying students. This has been put back to being able to use the court when ever aslong as it is booked at reception. Pool has always been available 24/7, you just need to pop you student card into reception. People have the pool equipment every night with no issue. I have checked back on the forms and can see 1 toilet seat raised this year which was replaced the same week once the delivery had come in. If you could email me your room number and confirmation of how this was reported I can look into this further. We get alot of blocked shower drains, this is normal for this type of building however, we act on these within our SLA and these response times are tracked and monitored. We understand there were issues with the turn around of kitchen cleaning upon move in, these were all done over check in weekend and if we received any complaints after this the cleaning company were immediately responsive. The rooms are not in move-in condition and was not cleaned when I moved in. They are slow in responding to maintenance issues.

It's definitely on the pricier side, but I believe it has been worth it for the facilities. I would say the breakfast is quite poor and not what was suggested on the website. Excellent location, close to Sainsbury's and 15 min walk to both Uni of and Hallam city campus. Probably like a 20 min walk to colligate campus. Reception and Security are absolutely lovely people who have truly been an asset to Cosmos. Once cleaned it is immaculate. Unfortunately, some residents don't feel like placing items in the bin, literally right in front of them so it kind of ruins it for everyone else. Some social spaces are slow to be fixed (eg. gaming room) but otherwise perfect and lots of study places available. Loads of events on, probably 1 or 2 a month (pancakes for pancake day, snooker competitions etc.) Encourages everyone down and allows those in studios a chance to socialise with others. The only area that doesn't get Wi-Fi is the roof garden, otherwise has incredibly fast and wide coverage.

As a postgrad student moving to a new university following the end of my undergrad, Cosmos has been a really great place to live for the past nine months, it’s well situated for night life, walking to the University of Sheffield campus and shopping close by. The staff that work here are really friendly and welcoming, it’s great coming back from uni to a friendly face that’s up for a chat. I’m in a premium studio and I love the amount of natural light my room gets and the amount of workspaces in communal areas that allow for a change of scenery from my room if I don’t want to head up to the library, these spaces also provide extra opportunities to meet new people! I also think it’s great that the staff organise a wide variety of social opportunities so that there will definitely be an event that you will want to participate in. Any issues that have cropped up, with a simple email, the accommodation team will get it sorted for you quickly. 😊
