What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?

Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

I was in a flat with a bad flatmate and the staff (Alberta) promptly resolved my issue, I now love my flat and have signed on for next year! Love the events, especially cocktail and canvas night!

I am honestly going to miss living here, I just want to personally thank all the staff at Steel City for being supportive during my masters degree. Just want to personally thank Alberta for being an amazing property manager and for being helpful when I first moved here and was feeling homesick. Hopefully if I get accepted for a PhD here next year I’ll be able to come back to live here 🖤

Unfortunately this box doesn't leave me enough space to give all my thoughts but to summarise: Good stuff: The location is very near to university and the city centre. There is A/C and a smart TV in every room (including kitchens!) The furniture and fittings in the rooms are modern and functional. The staff are very friendly and want the best for the residents. Bad stuff: The staff often don't have the power to actually fix stuff in your flat. Won't go into details but long story short I was promised a new sink that was less of a health hazard for the entire year and it never happened. The reception is only open 5 days a week, compared to other nearby places which have 24/7 receptions. Some of the maintenance issues which cropped up took weeks to be fixed, or were never fixed at all The laundry is the more expensive than anywhere else I have seen The roads around the accommodation are piled high with rubbish Sharman Court over the road is just better value for money!

Steel city future generation offered affordable yet comfortable living just steps from campus. The modern building featured spacious common lounges, an on-site gym, and convenient amenities. My studio apartment was surprisingly roomy with a functional kitchenette and bathroom. While compact, it provided a nice private space. The real highlight was the vibrant social community - the accommodations attracted a fun, outgoing crowd. Between nightly hangouts in the TV lounges and lively events, there was always something social happening if desired. For the prime location, amenities, and memorable shared experiences, Steel city was ideal student living and I'll forever have fond memories.
Fantastic reception and maintenance team who always go out of their way to help. Room are a perfect size with AC, which is excellent in both the summer and winter months. I am a third time rebooker!

I love living here everything and everyone is so nice
Maintenance is very weak. For instance it’s already been 3 months now since I’ve raised a maintenance request to fix the aircon and it’s still not rectified. They haven’t even bothered to do an RCA yet. Whenever you ask for an update on fixing, they just keep saying sorry. Very poor and delayed decision making skills and don’t provide an escalation matrix to log your issues. They just keep dragging and there are places which provide much better services at much lower prices than this! I would never suggest to invest your money for something there isn’t a value!
There was an outage, and it took a while to fix it. Air conditioning is broken for almost a year, maintenance is very inefficient, it's your luck how the experience is, if something is broken in your room, it's your luck when it gets fixed.
Very friendly onsite staff. Fast responses to any issues and queries. Very understating property manager (Simon). Receptionists, Alberta and Sara, are great. Quiet and comfortable room.

Great location, near to west street and city centre. Accommodation is peaceful but has many social spaces to use. All staff are lovely and the site is maintained well. Air on and TV in the bedrooms is a great bonus!
A good place to stay, good social areas. Only issue is that each flats front door doesn’t have a lock. Rooms do have locks but front door to the block hasn’t been working for a little while

The staff are such wonderful people and they made my stay really comfortable. The social spaces such as the sky lounge are really nice but unfortunately due to the pandemic I was unable to use them. It is a really good accommodation, considering similar accommodations either have less or the same facilities for and higher price.
If it wasn’t for covid and all the social spaces were available my stay would have been even more enjoyable but the staff here are extremely helpful and are really friendly and lovely

The staff of the Steel City here are very friendly. You can contact the staff if you have any problems. For example, when something is broken in your room, a repairman will come to you very quickly to help you fix the problem. The accommodation is also very good. The apartment offers a variety of activities and free gifts at special times.
If you want to choose Sheffield student apartments, Steel city is your best choice. Steel city has a laundry room, gym, and sky lounge. It provides table tennis, billiards, and Chinese mahjong entertainment facilities. Not only that, the staff at Steel City are enthusiastic and service, which will surely make you feel at home.
It’s very close to the art tower and there is a convenience store nearby. It takes only 10 minutes to walk to the city center. The activity room on the top of the building is great. There is a large TV to watch movies with friends. There is also a mahjong room. The balcony has a great view. Well, the front desk here is very friendly, they are very welcoming and happy to help you.

Choosing to stay here for my first year in Sheffield was the best decision I ever made. Not only it's more affordable than other student halls, but it also comes with many perks such as your own smart TV which was the highlight of my self isolation, air conditioning which was such a bliss to turn on after a hot September day of shopping, and last but not least all of the electrical appliances are state of the art Samsung branded! It's also a new building, so there's no damages whatsoever compared to older halls. The Co-Op and the Tesco Express are within a 3 minute walk and you can find pretty much everything you need. My favorite part is the Sky Lounge which made our socially distanced Freshers Week one to remember! Lastly, the staff members are more than willing to assist us with all our enquiries, and especially Maria Morar who has gone above and beyond to get us everything we needed while self isolating! I Definitely recommend this accommodation!
Steel City is a very warm apartment that feels very homely. First of all, the sanitation and disinfection of the apartment are well done. Every time I go out, the ground, windows, and doors in the public area are very clean, and the staff can be seen spraying disinfectant regularly every week. Secondly, I have to praise the staff of the apartment for their dedication and responsibility. They always take the initiative to say hello. And the email reminder and the reply to the question are very timely. I believe that one year of living in this apartment will be a very good memory in my study abroad life! Steel City is really great!
I have chosen Steel City since the first year of the operation, from my perspective, the service and living environment are all beyond average. What for more, the connection between residents and FG team is outstanding. Even under this pandemic, residents will never feel lonely due to the interactive neighbourhood communities established by Steel City. They always prioritises our well-being, which is another shining point that kept me staying for now and the rest of my "university life". 20/10 will recommend to my friends and new-comers in UoS to join us! At first I was expecting a small space and boring life, but in fact, the rooms in here are much decent than my previous accommodation, its worth to pay for staying here. The facilities are fine, a small laundary room but never gets crowded. Common lounge looks awesome with the sky lounge, perfect place to chill.
The only student accommodation in Sheffield with a personal TV and air-conditioning unit. Keep your eyes out for the Sky Lounge! Best part about living in this place.
