I really enjoyed my experience at The Neighbourhood accommodation! I was there for two years and all of the staff were so welcoming and friendly and I always felt so safe there. The rooms are really nice and the accommodation offers lots of social events which is great. The location is also great with a short walk to the University campus and right near the town centre!

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

I would like to express my experience regarding my applications to various universities in the UK. Throughout this process, I found that many of these institutions were challenging to contact and interact with, often providing me with very formal and generic responses. However, my experience with the University of Exeter was a stark contrast. At Exeter, I encountered a remarkably friendly and approachable staff who went above and beyond to provide me with incredible support, offering detailed explanations and guidance. I must particularly commend Professor Donald, who stands out as the most exceptional professor I have ever had the privilege of interacting with. Mr. Murray exhibited the same exceptional qualities. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete my application this year. Looking forward, I remain eager to reapply next year, with the hope of meeting everyone in person and expressing my heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional positivity and support that I received .
Adam and Russell helped me out during my years of living in such wonderful place, alongside beautiful scenery and social life to enjoy. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting live here.
Absolutely fantastic place to stay. Amazing staff and highly recommend
One of the best student accommodations in Exeter even compared to the ones my friends are in, best about it is the vibes and the location is right in the city center
I’m never not excited about heading back to my room, especially not at The Neighbourhood, whether it’s after being on campus for work, going to grab groceries or coming back from a night out. The rooms are cosy while still being very spacious and the other students and staff there make the living there easy and comfortable. The best place for downtime and simultaneously, it’s perfect for working.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Neighbourhood. The rooms were modern and social spaces were good fun to use despite the circumstances of COVID throughout the year. The manager, Adam was extremely friendly and welcoming at all times and was always on hand to answer any question I had or just a friendly hello. Russel was also extremely friendly and is an asset to the Collegiate organisation
The staff really make the building a great place to live, everyone is well looked after and the location is amazing, really nice walks and town super close!
I would thoroughly recommend The Neighbourhood to any international or postgraduate students moving to Exeter. Everyone is very welcoming and it is ideally located for the city centre and access to the university campus.
Amazing rooms and communal spaces, friendly and helpful staff. A two minute walk into the city centre- about 25/30 minutes walk from campus but 5/10 minutes to a regular bus link.
