All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

A lovely flat with good and new facilities, cleaning. Good location which is near supermarket circle, convenient.
I don't understand the hate really, it is a nice place to live with great facilities and fast maintenance. A receptionist on weekends even for just a couple hours or so would be a welcome addition. It is only operated in office hours, which makes it hard to reach if your uni schedule is busy, especially for postgraduate students without flex. Overall it is a nice place to live, in a great area next to many shops and bus links to pretty much the whole city.
Definitely the worst place. Also poor management in the building, especially no reception in the weekend and poor attitude from staff. Don’t come!
As the first occupants, we were poorly treated by CRM and experienced a great amount of stress. We moved in late. That aside - In terms of the actual accommodation, the room is nice, a bit small for the amount you are paying, especially the bathroom. The kitchen is not well equipped, no brush, no mop, no vacuum cleaner and it took 2 months to receive a toaster and kettle. At least you have 2 fridges for a flat of 6. If you want to use the vacuum cleaner, you have to go down during reception hours (Which is always normally when you are uni) and hand over ID. An unpractical approach that results in putting you off cleaning. The social spaces are shared by members of the local community, this means sometimes rooms are booked out by the public. The cinema room is very nice, the gym is very basic, it does not replace a normal gym and only good if you need cardio. The location is great, best part about the accom. The building was very empty this year and no social events. It's good enough.
We supposed to stay on 9th Sep 23 but can move in 18th Nov 23. - They promised to pay for compensation but it was super delay - Rarely responsed to residents. - Notified one day ahead that the room was ready to move More Importantly, I booked Room 4 Bed Deluxe Plus En-suite but the room that I got is 4 Bed Deluxe En-suite (smaller). I informed Accommodation Manager, but he said I have to wait for one week and ask him again in 2024. - Need to be a risk taker to live here! But if you are students who will study in 2024 onwards. - You need to check contract carefully. - You might need to capture the price that you booked because it will change just in case there is the problem like I am having right now!
