Overall, I enjoyed my stay at East Newington Place, even if it was cut short by the pandemic. The location was nice and quiet but was still close enough to local cafes, the meadows etc for social opportunities. Unfortunately, we didn't have access to any of the other accommodations' common rooms because of the pandemic however, the RAs were able to arrange many COVID safe online events. It's located close to multiple other accommodations so I'd assume social opportunities wouldn't be a problem in a regular year. George Square campus is about 10-15 mins away on foot and a lovely walk in the summer. My only complaint is that you can hear anyone talking outside and in the stairwells, even if the doors and windows are shut. I'd recommend to anyone looking for a quieter option for their accommodation.

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Overall a decent place to stay. The kitchen is a decent size, same story with the rooms. The location is nice and quiet but also quite close to the high street. However, the negatives would be the lack of social space available, especially in terms of having a common room. Noise is definitely an issue too. On top of this, the wifi is incredibly slow and went off several times everyday, which was incredibly inconvenient given that online tutorials were still taking place. Despite these issues, i would definitely recommend staying here, especially for first year.

Positive: Flats of four, shower room and bathroom, good internet, quiet location, cheap for Edinburgh, spacious bedroom storage, nice kitchens, weekly cleaner, building 6 is all for PGDE teachers and student vets. Negatives: has had an ongoing mouse problem for years that they try to blame on whoever moves in next, only two washing machines for three buildings of students (both of which are constantly breaking), you're charged if you forget your keys one day, no common room, building 6 has red-ish carpet and curtains that aren't very nice looking.
4 downfalls: If you live on the bottom floor it's a bit annoying because you have a frosted window so can't look out. The interior isn't as fancy as some other halls. You have to go to another accommodation to use their common room. Laundry facilities a tad expensive (but so is all the other accommodation) Everything else: amazing. One of the cheaper university accommodation but you get alot for it! The bedrooms are such a decent size. In a flat of 4 people you'll have a shower room with a toilet and another toilet room. All of the staff, cleaners and RAs are lovely - if you have a problem they'll sort it out. It's a very good location. Wifi is brilliant. would recommend

Excellent location, 10 mins from Uni, 25 mins from main shopping and clubs. Such good value for money, very friendly as it is so small. No common room, which makes socialising within the halls difficult, and not much social life, so you have to make extra effort! But overall, really really enjoyed it!
