38 south clerk street. my experience-2.5/5 positives- bedrooms are nice, cosy, alot of storage and a big desk. beds are double size (amazing for guests) location- right next to the meadows, area is lively and safe, and there is every shop you could need on your doorstep. repair requests are handled quickly. negatives- There is only one bathroom it was filthy with previous stains, the plumbing fixtures and everything in the bathroom feels old and dirty. The kitchen isn't the most pleasant but the cookers/oven are sound and there is good storage. The doors are very loud, can constantly hear slamming at any time from in the building. not a great deal of privacy out-with your room, staff come in flat often. If damage Is caused to common room every resident in the building has to pay fines. eg any parties that require damages paid. even if you didmt attend. Only 2 washing machines for entire building. they never work. overall not worth the price but not that bad.

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
I’d say that if you want a prime location and that’s all you care about then fair play go ahead. However, south clerk street is far from a social accommodation. Genuinely I’m warning you it’s dead. If you want to be social and have a fun time guaranteed live in KINCAIDS and other than there sailburys and pollock are truly your best bet. The location of SCS is good, bedrooms are big (I’ve been to a lot of Accoms and mine has been the largest). Kitchen isn’t bad sized and the bathrooms are alright. The power, electricity, windows, water heating and hinges on cupboards have broken various times. Also someone’s roof collapsed this year . GOOD LUCK

If you want a mice infested flat and if you want mice waking you up at 3am every night and noone to do anything about it for you this is your place to stay!
Worst thing about it was the other flatmates and the terrible RAs. The events the RAs put on were pretty terrible. Good size rooms and beds. Kitchen was fine. Good shower. Bathroom and cleaning was fine. 20 minute walk to kings was easier than walking to the shuttle bus stop and 10 minute walk to central was good too. Sainsbury's across the road. Road noise was loud. Air vent above bed with damp and coldness. Shoddy workmanship on furniture. Overall would recommend, no where near the worst and decent value for money for edinburgh.
Great halls for the price but not the best for socialising as a lot of the residents were only around for one semester. We've also had a lot of issues with the shower leaking but overall a good self-catered experience.
Perfect location 5 mins from George square, 2 mins from shops. No common room, rodents in kitchens but cleaned twice a week.
Good value for money, had mice though
