Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Lovely staff. Professional Security
A perfect student accommodation ever !! Glad to be a resident. Would love to recommend it.
Mercia lodge has the ideal location as it only a 5 minute walk to university and is located in city centre. I have been here for my first and second year of university and have rebooked for next year. Management are very friendly and are quite good at completing any queries you may have such as maintenance. There are just a few things in the building that need fixing such as the back door and one of the front doors too but other than that everything else has been very good.
I have a great experience with many great staff
Internet could be faster but ,understandable speed All in all no complaints
Great accommodation with great staff
- overall good experience - reasonable price for living in the main city area - some things were broken in the room upon arrival, but it was never really a big issue for me - laundry machines kinda broke every other month, but it always got fixed - social space is pretty nice and has study areas

I’ve had a great experience staying in Mercia lodge. Would definitely recommend to my friends. Thank you.
The location is awesome! The staffs are friendly and nice! Been staying here for 2 years and I love it. Quiet and peaceful. No unnecessary noises!
The location of Mercia Lodge is great. It is just 5-10 min walk away from Coventry University. And there is supermarket nearby. The management team are very nice and helpful. It is good very for money and highly recommended.
The location is the main feature, the price is reasonable
It's a good value for money and the location is so convenient. The staff here are also amazing!
It is a really good accommodation overall, very reasonable price compared to other accommodations. Excellent location and the staff are so helpful and friendly!
It is a really friendly accomodation and the staff are amazing and down to earth! The location is perfect probably accomodation to the university! They have also started doing social events too which is great! You will socialise with many different individuals
Great location. Great staff. Great place to live as a student!!
It has a nice location with a reasonable price. The room is big. Living here is very convenient and comfortable.
Rooms are worth the money. Excellent location, right at the heart of City Centre. Literally everything you need is easily accessible. Property is a bit old but interiors could be improved. Lightings in the rooms are fair but there can be improvements. Social space is fairly good. Social activities or events could be more exciting and be organised more often. Number of working staff should be a point to look at. Window for parcel collections for students should be kept open throughout the day, as not everybody can make it on time with the limited time slot available, which is quite disappointing. Property usability is really good with lots of facilities. I am glad the management has changed now! New staffs are delivering very good customer service, whereas the previous one was rude. Overall, one of the best choices to live in Coventry at a cheap price!
Decent value for money. Great as it’s in the city centre so everything is nearby. Accommodation is regularly cleaned. Wifi cuts out/is slow sometimes but only occasionally.
5min from the university and very close to food stores, shops etc. Located next to a square that often organizes events (Christmas walk, attractions) and attracts singers. Be careful to ask for a quiet room if you don't want to be disturbed by these events. Mercia’s team is attentive to your needs and will do everything possible to satisfy your requests.
Very reasonable price compared to other accommodations
The location is great. Staff are very much helpful and co-operative. Playing area and theatre is very good. Just there is no social events, I don’t know how is living next to me. Whenever there is fire alarm at that time I got to know the people living. Please do some social events, if you need any help from me, just let me know.
Its great so far, amazing staff
It’s a really nice space. Everything you need is walkable distance. The people here are really friendly and when needed help a lot. It’s safe and secure. The room is nice as well. I’ve never felt better.
it’s very convenient and staff are very friendly
The best accommodation ever, value of price and for the location
I am happy to live my 2 years in this accommodation, or was wanderful experience, staff were so helpful and friendly, I would continue live here If isn’t my last year in Coventry.
You pay what you get It’s great that it is designated right in the centre of coventry however, it can be very very loud outside as there are street performers, events, and construction going on outside, it’s never peaceful or quiet It’s still a great location as you are close by to everything and university is only a 2-5 minute walk
I am enjoying my time at Mercia lodge. I love how convenient it is to university and the town. I love how I can leave the building and have all the shops I need on my doorstep
very convenient for amenities, and very close walk to uni is useful
amazing experience, kept clean and very safe. Good social life and great location
Mercia Lodge is a really good place to stay at while doing your degree. The accommodation held a lot of social events which allows you to meet new people. The people living in this building are also very friendly if you try to get to know them. The location is perfect, as it is located in the city centre. The facilities are also great. You can gather with your friends and watch in the cinema room or socialise in the social place. The staff of Mercia is also friendly and very helpful, and the building is always clean. Everytime it gets a bit dirty, the staff will clean it right away. The price is also very reasonable and worth it. Definitely recommended for people to stay at!
Staying in Mercia Lodge was an overall enjoyable experience for me, but it has its issues. It's in a great location only a few minutes to get to the shops or uni and its right across the street from Wetherspoons. Its got a free on site gym and cinema room which always appeared to be well kept, as well as a table tennis and pool table (which isn't level) in the social areas. There is also an on site laundry room, but it will cost about a 5er to do a load of washing and drying which you have to pay for using an app. The rooms do come with a kitchen (small fridge, ceramic hob, small sink, and a small microwave combi oven), but they aren't particularly useable and my sink was in a state of being perpetually clogged. The issues really start to become apparent if or when something brakes or you need something from maintenance, as it takes a while for any action to be taken. Also worth noting that while I was there, one of the lifts occasionally worked, but was temperamental at best.
Location is excellent loads of essential stores nearby, room is very spacious so is the gym and worth the price. Staff is very friendly and welcoming.
Mercia Lodge located in a very good place. The surrounding public security is good, shopping is convenient. The staff group is friendly and efficient. The room configuration is also good, cost-effective
Mercia lodge is conveniently located at the center with ease of access to all I need as a student: it’s like a 5 - 7 minute walk from Coventry University, 1 - 5 minute walk from shopping malls, fast food joints, restaurants, and more. The management team provide a great customer service, they are nice, easy to talk to and understanding. In short it’s an outstanding and low key place.
