This year i had a lovely experience at St Giles, close to big supermarkets (aldi, tesco, iceland, etc) and bus stops outside for access to city centre and uni. Only downside is the giant jump in price in between years (the 24/25 price is ~£40 more for the exact same conditions and amenities)

What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

I love living at St Giles Studios. The location is excellent and only 20 minutes away from the city centre. Nevertheless, a lot of services and parks are nearby. Additionally, the staff are amazing: Emma, Danielle, and Terry are brilliant and always ready to help. Highly recommended!

Living here was the best decision I made. The staff are all lovely and look after us well. If anything is wrong maintenance-wise, it gets dealt with very fast. There's a really nice common area to hang out with friends, a big study room and a big kitchen. I couldn't recommend this place enough!!

I would highly recommend this place. The staff are very friendly and always helpful, they deal with any maintenance issues or questions quickly and efficiently. The rooms are spacious with good amenities, there is a quiet and pleasant environment for studying. There is a Sainsbury's across the street and several takeaway options are close by. I am very satisfied with this place and look forward to living here next year as well!

I would highly recommend this accommodation for students. My room is very spacious and all facilities work perfectly. If I ever have any queries staff always swiftly help out which makes everything really convenient. There is also a bus stop just outside making it easy to travel across to the Hill colleges. It is only a 15 minute walk to town and there is a Sainsbury’s right next door for any last minute shopping! There is also a nice common room which is perfect for socialising and chilling out on evenings and weekends as well as a study space to get work done. St Giles is definitely great value for money and highly recommend!

A great place to live a short walk from town so a great location the rooms are spacious and full of storage space and the site has a laundry room, social spaces and the community here is great Juliet is always available to help if needed and it’s a been a great place to live this year very excited to be staying next year too!

The staff at St Giles Studios are brilliant; always helpful and kind, organise lovely events and deal with any maintenance issues quickly. The studios are spacious and the communal spaces are a brilliant place to use with friends. It is in a really convenient location as it is only a short walk to the centre of town and is really close to a sainsburies local. I have made amazing friends here and can't wait to live here next year as well!

St Giles Studios is not only an accommodation, but a community. The rooms are spacious, modern and comfortable. The communal study space, living area and kitchen are the perfect places to relax after a tiring day and to meet new people. The staff make sure everyone is well looked after; any maintenance issues are promptly resolved by Terry and Juliet is always available for a chat. The atmosphere is friendly, with lots of internal events being organised regularly, even last year during lockdown (following all the government guidelines at all times). There is never a dull moment and despite all the amazing physical perks (10 minute walk into town, launderette on site, gated parking area), the staff and students here are the reason your stay will be unforgettable. Very excited to re-book for next year.

We are so pleased this year that the students have had an opportunity to meet up and make friends with one another now that the restrictions have been lifted, it was so tough so hopefully we can make up for it this year.
This residence is the perfect place to stay. Only 15 min walk from the city centre and la y food shops nearby. It is a very quiet place to study and the common area is perfect for hosting small meals between students. What I remember most about my experience as a foreign student is the incredible kindness of the stade Juliet, Debra and Kevin. They are always available, helpful, friendly and very dedicated. Everything is done in the residence to make the student feel comfortable. The wifi connection has also been changed to be more efficient. Although this year was very challenging because of COVID, many activities were organized throughout the year with all the necessary precautions. I can only recommend this residence and the fantastic staff who will help you to enjoy your stay. My heart is full of wonderful memories of my year in Durham at St giles thanks to the whole team and my new friends.

You were a little ray of sunshine whenever you passed by the office and you are missed by the staff and other students. It was such a shame that we couldn't organise more social events, but what we did manage was such fun.
I had a great year at St Giles Studios! The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and despite the covid, did their best to organise fun activities. The studios are modern, clean, and the common areas are nice if you want to relax. The residence is a 15 min walk from the centre of Durham, and shops such as Sainsbury’s and Tesco are close by. I would definitely recommend this student accommodation!

In my opinion, this is a good student studio, though it is not a modern style. People here are very kind and nice, and the staff are here to help. I think people can stay focused here if they wish to have a good grade! Good place for rest and study.

Living in St Giles is a wonderful experience. It's just a 10 minute walk to get to the city centre, with bus stops and supermarket just a minute away. Very safe and quiet area. Also, only 10 minutes away from a Tesco Extra. Rooms are very spacious, and personally I love it that I can have my own bathroom and kitchen. Staff members are always here to attend to all our needs. Various events are organised for all of us even during the pandemic (with all safety precautions). In my opinion, it's a wonderful choice of a studio flat for any student.
A lovely place to live with friendly and accommodating staff! Perfect location with large supermarkets a 10 minute walk away (and smaller shop across the road!), quick walk to get down to the river, and only a 15/20 minute walk into the centre of town. (Social experience score is only lower as a result of the restrictions in place due to Covid-19, so not a true reflection).
It is a good value for money to live in St Giles. And it is convenient and quiet. One of the possible shortcoming is the lack of a gym in this accommodation.
