I think the college is organised really nicely and we have some of the better social spaces on campus. The college is also in a really central location which is convenient for both classes and social outings.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

James Barber House at Hatfield College has recently undergone impressive renovations, offering students modern en-suite rooms that enhance privacy and comfort. The communal areas, including a lovely kitchen garden and BBQ space, foster a vibrant community atmosphere. Its excellent location provides easy access to both the city and campus, making it convenient for students.

You cannot get a better location than Hatfield. It is 1/2mins from anything on the Bailey and is a short 5/8 min walk to the library. It is also the closest college to Tesco which in first year is a big bonus. The social scene is brilliant and there is something for everyone. I never had a problem using zoom for my lectures on the university wifi. Hatfield bar is pretty decent and the music facilities are awesome. The only reason that the cleaning is 4 stars is that sometimes the communal spaces get a little untidy during the weekend when the cleaners have a break. Not having a flat lounge was annoying during Covid because only Hatfield students who had done an lft in the last 48 hours could be in the bar/cafe so it was a bit tricky to have friends over if you didn't want them all in your bedroom. Outside of covid times, I would never have found this a problem. Postgrad students and a few lucky students have a different layout though.
Fabulous community and very friendly! Love the collegiate system! However, wayyyyy too expensive!! Especially the college levy and extras they charge you at the start! Ridiculous!
You Pay a lot of money for a poor standard of accomadation. There is a large disparity in standard of accomadation across the college despite paying similar prices. That said, very very good location.
Old fashioned buildings, beautiful location right next to the cathedral.
The hall is not worth the money. staff is extremely rude. Maintenance workers not helpful. I regret choosing it
Hatfield College has the perfect location, nicest rooms and great food. Everyone is very welcoming and there are lots of activities to choose from.
The best location. The best atmosphere.
Best college for obvious reasons
I beat dissapoitned that we have to share bathrooms and seems like not enough space really shame we have to live on halls first year.
Despite it's less than ideal perception within the university, Hatfield is truly something special. The "Hatfield Spirit", while ostensibly excessive at times, fosters an atmosphere of inclusion and general positivity among students, which is not found in many other campuses in the UK, or even the world.
Really close college, that's really beautiful
