Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Overall, a positive experience with clean bathrooms, a good JCR and comfy bedrooms. The pantries are useful although we are catered and have a microwave, fridge, kettle, sink and toaster that are all functional and clean. Maintenance deal with complaints fairly efficiently. Can be loud throughout the night as people move through the corridors and heating on at irregular times, but overall worth the expense especially as do not need to worry about meal times.
Overall experience was pretty good. Toilets are shared and vary by building/floor (our floor had 6 cabins, the floor bellow had less), and there's some issues with them getting clogged. But there's regular cleaning of bathrooms and the pantry. Rooms also get cleaned every fortnight (though there are some staffing issues sometimes). The pantry has 2 fridges (no freezer), a microwave, sink, and a kettle. Rooms have decent storage space and coke with desk lighting. Freshers also got a linen pack for free. The WiFi is decent but there are some dead spots (e.g signal dropping out when walking through the corridor) and it does occasionally drop out. There's a gym, and a small library/working space in the accomodation buildings itself. It's close to the dining hall, and about 5 minutes away from the main campus, and the science buildings. Standard uni accomodation, nothing fancy but cosy enough - and the location is pretty good (though there's always a walk uphill).

On the expensive side for the rooms you get, but it is fully catered and the social experience is very good.
Best college ever. So friendly and a real community. Will always be a big part of my uni experience.
Great student support with friendly staff
Fantastic college experience, with well organised events. Great living and social spaces, with close proximity to the Science site being a great advantage
Vending machine is a thief. Food is alright, low amounts of meat though. The bar is decent. Location for science students is incredible.
Very good honest high. Hgggggg ggggggggggg
It is just one of the most friendliest places to live!
its pretty good overall. Convenient as well
The staff over here is very kind, the facilities are awesome, and we have a fantastic view. The rooms are perfect size and the en-suite is just amazing.
Very friendly college, easy to make friends, and the bops are always fun! great location, next to the science site! And the atmosphere here is very welcoming. i wish there were more ensuite rooms though...
