All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

I’ve really enjoyed living here, even though the bathrooms aren’t the nicest and the rooms are quite small I’ve met some of the best people at the accommodation and wouldn’t change a thing
Everything about tuke house is satisfactory- the one thing I struggle with is the wet room, it just feels unhygienic and produces silver fish

Great location, fairly social accommodation. Office are helpful but not open very often/at hours where everyone is at uni so getting packages can be a challenge sometimes. Staff are very understanding and friendly. Rooms are solid, having an en suite is great. Overall pretty good for student accommodation, definitely gives you the university experience.
Tuke house is very nicely located right in the main entrance of Falmouth town, with multiple stores right round the corner. I really like how walk able to majority of locations. My flat in particular, I haven't had any major problems that couldn’t be easily solved and I got really lucky with my flat mates who are amazing people. However I do find it inconvenient that the office opening hours are 1pm-5pm only week days when I’m usually at uni and unable to check mail or report any problems, especially if it happens on weekends.
Has a good experience and met some lovely people.
Tuke House is a fantastic spot if you’re looking for somewhere within a close walking distance to Falmouth campus, as well as being a short distance from the centre of town. There is an Iceland directly across the road along with a tesco express only a two minute walk away, so it’s very easy to get quick milk top ups! As for price, it is the most affordable of the university accommodation options and very well kept considering the price point. Every room has an en-suite and the kitchen comes already supplied with a kettle and toaster. There’s laundry facilities on site at an average price. The site office is only open from 13:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday which can be inconvenient if expecting a parcel, but the office staff are very accommodating and friendly. The social spaces are limited, there is a central courtyard area which, whilst being great in the warmer months, can be a bit uncomfortable in the winter. Overall, however, Tuke house is a great site.
Having a bedroom that faces the social courtyard at Tuke House led me to meeting my best friend here at uni, and I am so grateful for that. We never would've crossed paths otherwise.
I enjoyed my stay in Tuke House since it was very local to the town, which made the nightlife easy and the cheapest option for a single en suite.
Decent location, in town. There’s security to move unsavoury characters along or help with any needs, although i don’t see them that frequently. There’s not a lot of washers/dryers so I end up doing my washing at weird times just so i can actually do it. Everything else is pretty standard. It’s next to wetherspoons so that’s a few extra points
Perfect for first year experience as its close to falmouth Town and has lots of cheap shops around to get food or resources.
Super great location, there is a little issue with the wet rooms and damp however the kitchen and room are great sizes
It's an alright place to live. In the middle of town for going out and easy bus access for penyrn campus. I'd say that sometimes when you tell the staff about problems they take ages to help. The cleaners are good and I've never had WiFi issuses
It’s a 1980s building that hasn’t been renovated since the 1980s. It’s damp, mouldy and the wet room is a curse that I spend hours scrapping black mould off. The extractor fans work but are simple too weak because it takes a whole 2 days to dry out the wet room after you have showered (say goodbye to dry toilet paper). If you have a period, you CANNOT leave tampons or pads in the bathroom as they simply grow black mould within a week. The kitchen appliances are just about fit for purpose (when they don’t blow the fuse). The oven is so old the paint chips off every time you close the door and the hob is never truly off. There is one fridge freezer between five people which is honestly no where near enough space to fit a weeks worth of food. The radiator that sits by your head is rusted, dented and can only be switched on periodically for an hour so there no way to dry out the room. In the winters you are just cold and damp which is only helped by the single glaze.
not the best accommodation. would recommend not paying extra for a view because facing the courtyard means you hear the homeless people yelling and random members of the public blaring music at 4am. facing the road/car park is best because its quieter. they turn a blind eyes to trespassers and don't reinforce rules. halls have a weird atmosphere in my opinion. if you get lucky with flatmates, then it won't be dirty, but not many now-a-days are considerate. site team don't really like helping students and its obvious. close to woodlane campus though but the hill is dreadful to walk up. mold issue. good bin facilities. only 3 washers and dryers. the small rooms will make you go crazy. cleaners hoover hallways and mop kitchen every wednesday at 10am. maintenance will often be in your space without notice. fire alarms give you an aneurysm and are always off. overall your experience depends on how much you can make the most out of it. would recommend ocean view if you have the budget.
A very good location, and a good price. Well looked after, and staff are friendly and helpful. However some parts of the building are very unclean, and there was a common rat issue.
It was a comfortable space to stay in. My room was a good size to do work as well as relax and the kitchen was a nice area to socialise. Cleaning was once a week so this kept my flat to a decent standard. There’s a lot of noise being next to a car park and the front door of the building but it made up for it being in the centre of Falmouth.
Despite being the cheapest student accommodation in falmouth, I found it was arguably one of the best in terms of location and social spaces. There is a big courtyard in the middle of all the flats, and it only a few minutes walk from the town centre. It's also only about a 10 minute was from falmouth campus.
Tuke House was a really great value-for-money accommodation, with spacious rooms and ensuites and social kitchen areas. It's in a really good location right in town and very close to Falmouth University.
Full of rats, doors fully broken for months they are refusing to fix it, difficult if not impossible to connect to Internet. Social life and location great tho! 3/10
Was good value for money and great being in town!
Best social accommodation everyone surrounds the courtyard so your never alone. It a really close accommodation too, as everyone knows everyone. However feels a bit like a prison in terms of dated looks but it is in THE BEST LOCATION EVER. 5 mins from town and social life as well as the falmouth uni. Also not to far from other accommodation sites so very social.
Perfect location but desperately needs updating!
