Depending on the type of kitchen you are allocated into in Faraday, you will have slightly different cookers and hobs. For example, a large kitchen in Faraday will have an electric cooker with hob, oven and grill, whereas some smaller kitchens will have an induction hob with pans provided.
We do recommend that you bring your own saucepans, measuring jugs and any other crockery, utensils and cutlery that you would usually use. You can find a handy list of what we provide, what to pack and what not to pack for your move in day here.
Hi there, thanks for your question. In Faraday, you will be catered for Monday to Friday for 15 meals per week, covering breakfast, lunch and dinner. We have shared kitchens for you and your flatmates to share on the weekends, and any other days during the week when you want to make yourself some more food! Depending on the room type you choose, you will share a kitchen with 2-8 people. You can use our helpful 360 degree camera on the Faraday hall webpage to view an example of our kitchens in Faraday.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Faraday is a great hall, very social and well run by the committee to the cleaning staff. It has the best events and the rooms are very good value for money, by far the best community.
Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We will be sure to pass these comments to the relevant teams! - Harry
I often had to reregister my phone to the university wifi system. The wifi also couldn't connect the internet sometimes.
Great social aspect, Faraday Large Kitchen option is best if you want to experience more social side of University and Faraday. The staff are lovely and very attentive. Information is communicated very well and we will experience a very pleasant community life.
Overall a lovely hall. Great location on central campus with a real sense of community and belonging.
Good room with kind staff and a good location from lectures. Kitchen facilities could be better as there is no fan so when cooking in the hobs it can get very warm especially since the windows don’t open very far and there’s no oven. Also when trying to get a room at the beginning of the year there were problems with choosing rooms and the way rooms are given out should be changed to a better system.
Hall has a great family atmosphere and is very social. The actual buildings are a bit dated but that hasn't been an issue
Good social hall, common room is rubbish compared to others. Location good and Louise is a great cleaner.
Overall it was a decent accommodation which was worth the price.
The price is way too high for the quality of the rooms.
On a whole faraday is a very inclusive and sociable hall which caters for everyone, through-out this year there has been lots of great social events (for example, the winter & summer balls) which have been great to get to know and spend time with your friends. Also, the food which you get catered is actually of a good standard and is much nicer then you'd imagine. Overall my time in faraday has been positive and i would recommend for any people deciding on their hall.
I have loved it living in faraday, everyone is so nice. I'm coming back to stay for next year!
Had a great time In faraday, would recommend
the wi-fi isn’t great, but the location is really good.
Met a lot of nice people, lots of convenience with shops around, as well as being close to the gym and lectures, very useful for a non morning person.
Great location within campus to wherever you need to go. Decent food provided during weekdays.
Overall, I definitely would choose faraday again. The community is brilliant and I’ve frequently been told it’s unlike any other hall on lboro campus. The hall staff are friendly and responsive. Choosing the be catered is something I definitely recommend as if allows you to meet people and have less stress throughout your (first) year. As a fussy eater, sometimes it was difficult but there was always at least one meal I would eat. It is in the best location on campus and is within a 5/10 minute walk to the majority of campus buildings and the spar which is very useful.
Most social hall on campus!!! Always events on and everyone is welcome to get involved. Being in catered accommodation helps you get to know people and make friends quickly and saves you a lot of time cooking during the week. Faraday is in a great location being in the centre of campus, close to the library, students union, the spar shop and most lecture halls. The hall that’s the best value for money.
Overall very good accommodation with an excellent social experience.
My accomodations was great to live, in goy along with all my roomates except the one who had questionable views and morals
Faraday is not only an excellent hall to live in with plenty of green space and modern facilities for the price, but it is also an amazing social space! Nearly all of my friends I have made are from Faraday due to the inclusive highly social nature of the hall which always has plenty of activities and events to get involved in meaning you settle in the community so quickly!
Really love Faraday hall! It is a very sociable hall with a sense of community. It is also a catered hall, meaning that there is an opportunity to meet people outside of your flat or block. Some of my good friends, I met in the dining hall despite not being in the same flat. A good location too, about a 5 minute walk max to the library and between a 5-10 minute walk to the central lecture halls. 😊
Faraday is by far the best hall on campus. The location is brilliant being so close to all the lecture halls, walking distance from all sporting facilities. The hall has such a great atmosphere that I’ve loved so much and made so many amazing friends. Being catered is so convenient with a wide range of options at each mealtime. It’s also lovely to sit with your friends and chat everyday. It’s a very sociable hall that loves to put on events throughout the year. I couldn’t recommend faraday enough to anyone applying for halls. It’s been the best part of my university journey so far, so much so I’m staying in halls for my second year. Please choose faraday you’ll have the best time ever!
I’ve had a great experience in Faraday hall over the past two years I’ve stayed here. Positioned centrally on campus, it’s no more than a 10-15 minute walk (mostly less) from the majority of places of interest at the University (importantly, lecture halls). I’ve found a wonderful community and group of friends as a result of the social scene and friendliness abound. It’s a huge perk that the hall is catered given the shared canteen where you’re able to see familiar faces throughout the year - it’s a massive help in building the community. The hall is slightly older, meaning the spaces aren’t as functional as they once may have been, and are susceptible to some age-related rundowns. However, it’s not something that’s taken anything away from the experience for me. The friends I was able to find in my first year, as well as the community, positioning, and social factors are what brought me back in my second year, thus, I’d recommend it - realising this may be different for everyone.
Faraday is a great spirit with a strong sense of community spirit from day 1!!
I lived in Faraday for 2 years during my degree and they were some of the best years of my life. It is an extremely social hall and I can confidently say that I have made some lifelong friends here. The rooms themselves are exactly what you need at university and the facilities and cleaning staff are excellent and absolutely lovely. Can’t recommend Faraday enough, it really is a family. Despite being in my final year and now living in town, I still keep in contact with the hall and regularly attend events and compete in sports matches for them.
i enjoyed living in faraday hall
The best catered hall on campus. Food is served on a three week rota basis so you get some variety, and Faraday is near all the other accommodation halls on campus, so it's really easy to socialise. We're really near the library and the paddock for your study and sport fix, and even the standard option rooms don't feel cramped sharing a bathroom.
Faraday is great. I didn’t choose it at first but am so glad to be here.
Friendly atmosphere in a practical location. The area is decently managed, and the wifi is very good.
Very sociable but very destructive.
Great location and place to live but overall building has become old and outdated so does not give best value for money.
The best hall there ever was with the best people there ever were
Faraday is like a family! You can't not feel welcomed
Was a very convenient location, helpful to have catering service during the week. Making friends was more difficult given the nature of circumstances but overall good rooms and experience.
A great hall to move into as a fresher. Ample opportunity to socialise and dining room encourages social activity.
Better for people who are less fussed about facilities and more about the connections you make within the hall. Everyone is very friendly and the social activities are really good. The only downside is the age of the hall makes it sometimes annoying with a few things breaking throughout the year.
The room is okay but the maintenance is slow response. I see the some parts of my room and kitchen aren’t clean properly.
The hall was reasonably priced compared to other halls, but it seemed like we were still not given all the facilities.
I really enjoyed first year at Loughborough University even during the corona virus outbreak.
Overall, I enjoyed Faraday. Its location is very practical and the committee is very friendly. However, standard rooms with small kitchens are not great (no chairs only stools, small tables, and can get very crowded)
really good accommodation with practical features, kitchen has certain fault s but overall its an amazing experience.
Hi there, I hope you've managed to get the faults fixed, do let me know if you need help. Bindu
Faraday hall was so inviting and lovely. It really made the experience of moving into university so easy. The hall was so sociable and there was always an opportunity to see people at lunch and supper because of he catering aspect. The wardens and committee were so helpful and lovely to talk to about anything. The cleaners would clean all communal spaces once a week and even the bedrooms every two weeks which was incredibly helpful and sanitary. Faraday hall is in an ideal location bang in the centre of campus and right by the coop.
Hi 1srburnett Thank you for this review. We're glad to hear that you had a great experience staying in our halls of residence! Tendo
Unreal experience, great location! Rooms are good, food is good!
We're glad that you had an unreal experience! Tendo
I lived in Faraday in my first year of University and I had the best time! It was so ideal because I had my breakfast, lunch and dinner cooked for every weekday. Faraday is also in a great location, being close to all of my lectures and is close to campus facilities such as the Union and Library. The social experience was fantastic! I made friends for life and was able to get involved in a lot of hall events.
We're glad that you made such great friends and managed to stuck into a lot of hall events! Tendo
Faraday was incredibly social and convenient for lectures.
We're glad that you found Faraday convenient! Tendo
Amazing hall experience provided year in, year out! Home away from home place to have a great time and meet amazing people
We're glad that you found a home away from home! Tendo
Love Faraday Hall! Best Hall on campus, hands down.
Thank you for this amazing review! Tendo
Very expensive but rooms are not as good as in other similarly priced halls, events overall are disappointing and there are often problems with heating and with wifi
Thanks for your review. I'm really sorry to hear that you feel this way. It would be great to find out more about your experience in halls so we can try and make improvements for future students. If you've got time to share your feedback with us, please contact us at emailus@lboro.ac.uk Thanks Tendo
Fantastic halls, great people, good location, blocks give a home like feel, excellent overall
We're glad to hear that you felt at home! Tendo
Faraday has a great family feel to make everyone feel at home!
Love this hall very much. Had an amazing time
Being on Hall committee gave me excellent insight into the running of the hall and made me get fully stuck in to everything Loughborough has to offer outside the classroom
Excellent location (especially for sport science students). Good value for money with the catered option. Wifi has been temperamental over the past two years but very friendly atmosphere.
I didn't live in halls, but I was affiliated with Faraday which was a good way of meeting people during Freshers.
Faraday is a sociable hall with a range of different rooms to choose from. The catering experience was excellent for helping new students to settle in without the worries of food shopping.
Loving the hall so far great atmosphere with great people. Have managed to get involved in committee. Location is perfect for all my lectures :)
Good experience at Loughborough as a first year student .. coming back next year !
with faraday being a catered hall it means social life is very strong and much easier to make friends
Amazing hall camaraderie and social life. The hall is in a perfect central location.
Got to meet loads of new people! Staff are super friendly and rooms are of a good size. Would recommend first years to stay here
The hall is good and close to most of my lecture rooms. It is catered and adds up to its value.
This halls is very good I would recommend it
The bathrooms are f****** s***
Faraday makes you feel part of a family and is inclusive of everyone no matter your background.
Love love love Faraday - perfect location on campus for everything! originally wasn't my first choice but I am 100% glad I ended up as part of the Faraday family
I live in an ensuite room with an extra kitchen, which is much more useful then the standard one. The bathrooms are small. The cleaning service is good. The dining hall is ok, the staff is really nice, but the diversity of food is not the best. They do have vegatarian food and different types of meat, but we eat too much pasta and potatoes.
I was nervous about joining university due to the fact I'd be leaving home but Faraday has become my new home. The whole place is so nice that I have no regrets about choosing it.
Overall a good hall and I met some great, long-term friends here. However, the rooms and hall as a whole is a bit dated in comparison to some of the other, newer halls on campus.
The Committee in hall make the experience so special!
The Hall committee are brilliant year after year and create and unbeatable student experience.
I only had one year in halls but my catered hall allowed me to avoid having to cook after late lectures and encouraged a very social environment which allowed me to gain loads of friends
Everyone is really friendly. Great location- closest hall to papa si's,ecb center and most lecture halls. Best sports hall in Loughborough over many years and runner up this year for hall of the year
Not a bad word to say about living in Faraday. Being a catered hall adds to the social dynamic of the hall, whilst not having the added pressure of having to cook every night, especially for a busy fresher! Excellent rooms for the price paid, spacious and very clean. The social scene is second to none, with events taking place nearly every week. And being officially the best sporting hall in Loughborough just puts the icing on the cake.
Excellent to be part of Faraday hall. Being in a catered hall is very sociable, having met so many people this year. The food is nice, with a variety of dishes at lunch and dinner. The rooms are spacious, and are cleaned on a fortnightly basis. The social life is excellent, events on every week!
Such an incredible hall and everybody is so friendly. There are loads of hall activities to get involved in from sport to raising money for charity. Going self catered is definitely worth it, the food is generally good and there's plenty of choice but even just being able to sit with anyone you want means that you can make so many new friends.
