Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Management is terrible, higher ups making constant bad decisions and with the recent decision with changing £30 A WEEK for “storage” for keeping my items in my room for month and coming back is insane. I don’t know if it’s them trying to make up for losses in revenue due to less university students internationally or what but there is no real reason. What? Will they clean my items for me and start making sure they’re shining while I’m away. I don’t understand the added cost a week at all. HR is terrible.
Fantastic friendly staff, great value for money and quick resolution of any problems. Rooms are clean, and cleaning service for shared spaces every two weeks. Just missing Netflix/streaming services on the TV's to be a full 5 stars
Absolutely brilliant. Staff are amazing so friendly. A few things with the new flats are not so great. Only space for three people in a freezer, no individual light above bed and less sockets. But overall, very very good.

Very helpful reception staff, easy to talk to and resolve issues well. Communal areas of flats are cleaned every two weeks so shared spaces are always clean. I've really enjoyed living here :)
The best place to stay. It’s my second home. Very friendly and supportive staff. New and state of the art facilities.
I was there, I survived..............
Snow island is a great place to live, the cleaning staff and reception staff are always happy to help. Maintenance is always quick and helpful. I think it is great value for money. I love the location and I have recommended snow island to my friends to live here next year.
Really happy with everything! No complaints
Dave and Chelsea are amazing employees who have helped my wellbeing during my stay in huddersfield. Lela and Nicola are friendly and hardworking employees who ensure cleaning throughout the accommodation. Ray, Clair and Rob have always ensured my maintenance jobs are completed the following day.
I have really enjoyed the new revamped rooms, they look brighter and the kitchen space is lovely! A lot of storage spaces in my room! In the kitchen, storage space is comfortable for 4 people but for 6 people, it might be a bit cramped. The accommodation is only 5-7 minutes from my lecture rooms so it’s very convenient.
Snow island has been a great place to stay. Really close to the uni, shops and great reception team
Fantastic place, brilliant staff. Can't recommend enough
Great location, lovely staff, can’t really go wrong, although security guard let random people in our flat one time
The staff here are the most understanding and patient and are so helpful at providing a good living space and are very easy to talk to.
Amazing accommodation with great staff - especially Dave!!
Great Location with Friendly staff (Dave) and a great maintenance team!
Was here in first year, left for second year and booked it again for third year with in 2 months
Couldn’t be happier so much better than student houseing in huds
Staff are sound. Love it here, lived for 3 years and not had a problem.
It’s a good accommodation with friendly staff. Good value for money.
Great clean and comforting accommodation. Friendly and helpful staff.
Good accommodation generally, but I have encountered a few problems and mistakes that should never have been made. It is an old building so can be quite noisy sometimes, but if you have any complaints or concerns the reception staff and security are lovely and will always strive to help you as best they can. I may have just been unlucky but I have encountered several problems that were simple human errors made by whoever allocates flats, but other than that Snow Island is good.
Perfect place to stay! Love Snow Island, the staff are so friendly, the housekeepers are constantly cleaning and ensuring the place is kept up to an appropriate standard. The social spaces are great and everyone is so helpful. Maintenance is done quickly and efficiently. The staff on the desk always make time for you and ensure you feel comfortable. It can be made very homely!
Bad in general, dirty, noisy, and very expensive.
Lived here for 2 years now. First year the acommodation was under another company's name and actually had fairly caring members of staff in reception. Now, there is no bother to help the people who live there, like we aren't actual people. The location, the wifi are decent. There is a lot of noise outside if you live in a room that'a windows face the inner area of the acommodation, so you will pretty much wake up every now and then from people yelling drunk at 4 in the morning. Everywhere you walk is cracking, so your neighbour upstairs will constantly annoy you. The cleaning here barely gets done, and both cleaning staff and maintenance will take your own equipment in the kitchen to clean up despite being provided their own. They see no fault in this. There is no cleaning or maintenance done before you move into your flat, that will come in roughly when the cleaner is supposed to be doing their shift, so this year we had to move in and back out until our kitchen was properly cleaned.
Its ok, nothing too fancy stuff breaks a lot
Plenty of options for people who want to live near university and aren't too far away from campus
