All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

It's a great place to stay close by to lots of store and uni. Also friendly staff
The accommodation is located close to the city center, which is the biggest draw. However, there are two disadvantages: one is about the ambient noise: the surrounding area is close to several bars, and the sound of music and loud noises at night can be a nuisance to students, some of which last until 1-2 am; the other one is about the apartment facilities: the heating in the apartment can only be turned on manually when the room temperature is lower than 23 degrees Celsius, and such a setting leads to the fact that the heating will be turned off as soon as the indoor temperature is higher, and the morning getting up is often accompanied by a very low room temperature. All in all, the stay was a moderate experience.
The kitchen can be cleaned more frequently.
Marilou is really kind and helps me a lot. She writes down my request patiently and solves my problems quickly.
翻译成英文是: "I think the layout of my room is not very reasonable. It is very long and narrow, with the heater near the door and a thick wall between the heater and the bed. After the heater heats up, there is not much obvious effect on my side, which makes it quite uncomfortable."
reception is never present, it is very hard to meet them. terrible maintenance - elevator was down for two months? housekeepers never come for biweekly routine, and always avoid doing the work by blaming residents - even when it is our responsibility to keep it clean, maybe actually do your work once a month? one time a housekeeper came in and lectured me lol. old infrastructure, tiny room in very weird shape. opposite bristol hippodrome so you will be woken up by the sound of trash containers every morning and annoyed by drunk people during the nights.
Good luck if you have any maintenance issues. Most things took about 2 months for them to even look at, and often they just say it's fixed when it isn't. One of two lifts was broken for about 3 months. Kitchen is meant to be cleaned for you every 2 weeks but that doesn't always happen. Staffing levels have improved since I moved in, but initially there was nobody at the desk for hours on end or whole shifts. Early in the tenancy someone broke in to reception and stole all the packages that hadn't been put away because there was nobody there. Staff try to help you but have no actual power. The location is very central and the rooms are warm and not too mouldy. I didn't need to use the heater much in winter but you'll want a fan in summer because the window barely opens. Bathroom ventilation isn't very good. Our kitchen also only had one window so it gets unbearably hot and it takes a long time for cooking smells to go away.
The property management review is not about staff - staff are lovely, even though understaffed. The property itself, however, is incredibly disappointing. Quite literally not an accessible accommodation for anyone who would need accessible housing. There’s 2 lifts of which one has been out of service for 2 (!!!) months, the other one was out of service for a day (someone with stairs as an obstacle would have had no way of making it to their flats without further difficulty). That lift also had no lights in it for several days. Because of understaffing, the reception is empty a lot of times and there’s no one to help as they have to be tending to other issues in the building. Fire drills are supposed to be held every Tuesday around 10 AM, however, it’s incredibly inconsistent, sometimes it’s on another day - no one leaves their rooms anymore at any times if there’s a fire alarm going off. Issues take way too long (sometimes weeks) to resolve even if consistent problems with rooms.
A great location with it being close to the University and City center. Lovely staff. Shout out to Sakshi for all her help with the property!
Really loved the initiatives taken by Chantry to get the piano and tt table!! Really improved the energy and mood of the students including me! Special shout out to Sakshi and Steve!
Transportation is convenient, close to both the school and the city center, the apartment staff are good, the Internet can be a bit slow at night, but overall good value for money.
The building infrastructure is disappointing for what you pay but the management is excellent and hospitable, and residents feel very safe and secure.
Pros: 1. Central to University and the City Centre. Easy access to all amenities. 2. Excellent Students Experience Team. Very friendly and ready to help us with everything 3. Elevators available 4. A good accommodation for someone who loves some quite time. 5. Good number of social events Cons: 1. The worst maintenance team. Takes months to resolve issue 2. Lack of common room amenities and enough study spaces 3. Expensive laundry and printing services

Fantastic staff, they’re absolutely really helpful, kind and supportive!! Location is city Centre so that’s brilliant, but we need more common space and area in the building.
Location is brilliant and flats are in decent condition but it’s not particularly social as it lacks common areas (the only one being a singular study desk by the main door). Additionally they do not fill the flats so you could be the only person living in a six bedroom flat which is quite isolating. You can get better value for money in other halls as you receive access to other facilities such as study areas, gardens etc which would have made the experience (especially throughout the pandemic) much better. Also there is a lack of social events as the hall is not owned by the university so you miss out on things like balls and dinners. It’s been ok but I wouldn’t recommend it and I definitely would have had a better experience living elsewhere.
