I love Westwood, after having an awful experience in Polden it proved to me that an en-suite is not everything! the flats are so social and the toilet/shower were cleaned for us (i’m not sure if this was due to covid). the rooms are such a good size compared to other accommodations like quads, cotswolds and a few others have recently been refurbed so they are really clean i’m not sure about the others! 10/10 recommend
I was upset getting given Mendip when I joined Uni, as it was my sixth choice of Accomodation similar to all my other flatmates. However, it was the best thing that’s ever happened to me because even though they look initially like prison cells it doesn’t take much to make them feel homely. Not to mention they are so much larger than Quads rooms. There is enough space for everything, even for me who owns a LOT of stuff. The shared bathroom situation which is similar to a swimming pool changing room, there were 5 showers and 4 toilets between 21 of us, and I can honestly say there was never a point that I had to wait for a toilet or a shower. For the most part when you go into the bathroom no-one else is in there. You have a Sink in your room which is amazing. Perfect distance from the golf course and the shop. Don’t be sad if you end up in Mendip, you’re about to start the best year of your life! The family you build is unbeatable, you’ll make friends for life! Good luck x

An absolute state of a building, mould everywhere, tiny rooms and everything was broken
Rooms are spacious, lots of green space for students to play sports or just study outside.

These halls are literally grim, my room was infested with bugs... I would have to kill about 2 spiders a day and there were small bugs crawling EVERYWHERE all over the desk, cabinets, BED... it was grim. I feel bad for you if you get these halls it literally made my first year a nightmare because of how gross, run-down, old and dirty it is. The cleaners themselves are not good (even though they literally just have to do the stairs and bathroom, not even the kitchen) and although we are supposed to clean up after ourselves, which is totally fine, we aren't given any cleaning products and if we want to use a hoover, we have to walk 10 mins to the accommodation centre to get a hoover and carry it all the way back... It is a good location on campus but I would much rather be further away from campus to not stay in these horrible rooms. There is no social space whatsoever and even the kitchen arrangement is awkward and divisive. Try to change halls if you get westwood.
There isn’t a lot of social space, and all the halls seem a tiny bit overpriced when you look at what’s available in town. However, they’re very sociable and you meet a lot of people in Westwood. It’s also very close to lectures, and is definitely better value for money than the more expensive stuff on campus. However from what I’ve seen of the other halls, I’d say Eastwood is much nicer for the same price.

Very social halls, close to library and students union etc but definitely not a luxury accommodation.
Best halls if you want to be with a lot of people and enjoy socialising and going out. Someone in my flat went out pretty much every night so there's always something to do
Only thing it really lacks is social space.
Small flat, best people ever. Location is pretty good besides lecture at the east building. A nice and quiet place near the woods.
Did not feel at home here, found the way that the flat was run and cleaned very poor, not worth the high rent at all. Wifi was ok though. I guess it's good for pre drinks parties that's it

Great place to live. So close to the lectures and fresh. And partying is good but it's quiet in the day so you can do work. Big rooms. Only problem is kitchens are quite small. All the people are nice. No snobs like quads.

Kitchen is very awkwardly arranged for social space. Cleaners do not really do a good job. Wifi isn't great. Social life is pretty good but that's the people for you, not the accomodation.
I love westwood! Good size rooms and plenty of toilets and showers to go round. Good size kitchen but lack of social space is annoying sometimes.

Crazy cool housemates; and great reps; living space is average. So much fun!
Good Bits: Brilliant flat mates, Large green space. Not so good bits: Inadequate social space. Bottom half and upper half use two separate kitchens which segregates residents into two social groups. Lack of privacy for ground floor resident Conclusion: If you are considering westwood because of value, go for Eastwood for a similar quality but better social experience

Value for money is great, all is great just the kitchens get dirty too often and not cleaned enough.
The social areas are lacking in comparison to other halls (Quads and others), as there is no designated common room. People pretty much just hung around in the kitchen and that became our social area... but tbh i wouldn't worry much I had so much fun and didn't ever feel like the social experience was lacking. Cleaning was decent, sometimes the bins got a bit full and nearly overflowed but that never bothered me much.` I thought the fact that there would be no en-suites would be a downside, but it wasn't that bad in all honesty, and I almost never meet people in the toilet areas. Also there are sinks in your room (boys).
I don't think that I'm really getting what I'm paying for with this accommodation. Tiny rooms, the small kitchen and the poor social area is just scratching the surface of the problems with it. Considering we're only paying £200 less than one of the 'premium' accommodations I think we should be getting a lot more for our money. We keep getting endless threats of fines by security for any issue under the sun, our wifi always drops out and another huge problem is the sound proofing of the rooms. In my room I can hear everything when people go to the toilet (I'm in the room below), slamming of doors and shouting at ungodly hours all sound like they're right next to my ear when I'm trying to work or sleep. The cleaners do a very good job but always come towards the end of the weekend so naturally it's filthy again by Monday. Its positing in the uni is one of the best in my opinion, we're near to all of the lecture halls and one of the closest to the shop and SU. Save money with Eastwood.
Despite not being the most glam halls (and looking slightly like a prison), I love my halls because it's so social and conveniently placed. We have 3 kitchens between 21 of us, so there's enough room to cook and store all our stuff as well as there always being people around to chat with or go out with.
A great social hall but it lacks in common space which can be an issue with 17 of yousharing 2 kitchen's. Really enjoyed myself though :)
Halls are filthy, my room looks like a prison cell and is so small I can almost touch all four walls from the middle of the room
A common room wouldve been nice especially since the kitchens aren't very large, but its good value for money, I don't have to clean my toilet since somebody does it and the people I've met are nice and friendly

Westwood is perfectly situated on campus, and succeeds greatly on the social aspect of uni - as there are so many people and they're always up for a chat. I love it!
Great socially and good sized room however not much space to socialise, could do with being a little cheaper.
Westwood is a friendly and welcoming hall. The staff are always quick to respond and sort out any problems, and it's less than a five minute walk to the Parade. What's nice about Westwood is that everyone is in a community and all the floors intermingle and welcome each other to their flat. You have a good sized room, good furniture, two big pin boards and a whiteboard to write everything you need to remember down. You have 4 toilets and 5 showers per flat of around 20 people. Whilst this may not sound like enough, I've never had a problem trying to use either one. There are also three kitchens per flat with big cupboards, two big tables (at which we all socialise), and cooker, fridge, kettle and microwave are all pretty good. The wifi connection is excellent, whereas in some accomodations I sometimes struggle to find connection, Westwood has been perfect.
The rooms are very clean and have plenty of storage. Loads of sockets in rooms. The showers are clean and have good water pressure. Lack of communal space is an issue for being social within the flat.
Large rooms, no social space though - just kitchens. Best value for money if you don't want an en-suite and located close to everything except the STV. Very social halls, with lots of people per "flat" (17 in mine).
although the housing is basic( resembles prison cells in liberal countries; which are arguably better), it creates an atmosphere for social inteRaction between flat mates, forming new relationships (literally) and potentially ever lasting friendships.
the most social accommodation by far. If you hate socialising then don't live here. Full of banter and parties. no social space though so you have to party on the kitchen work tops- MORE FUN. BLOODY LOVE IT.
