Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Eastwood oblast has a touch of soviet despair. Big dull rooms, fairly meh showers. This is sensible economy by bath standards, but aesthetic comparison with some of the more expensive accommodation is a little disheartening in that in contrast to the dark, coloured, tones of the houses of your betters, an Eastwood house is merely equipped with a pathetic simulacrum of this in the form of a piece of coloured gloss plastic obstreperously glued to a wall The lack of a specific social area is a blessing and a curse - doing all of ones socializing in an extremely bright-white room with windows everyone can be a great chaotic generator of fun, but limiting and probably not great for those on the edges of their social group. The vibes were different to how other people describe their accommodation: to paraphrase Marcus Aurelius the kitchen is flux, life is opinion Outside of that single fatality of death, everything, joy or happiness, is liberty, Eastwood is OK. The internet is very fast.
Really a small but expensive place, the cleaning of the kitchen was done once a month leaving most of the communal area to smell like s***.
No real social space and cleaning a bit hit or miss - quite expensive compared to other unis but good social life
I think they have closed eastwood down now but it was known as the hovel! Much nicer accommodation on site
Good budget housing compared to other options
Really liked it but no social area except kitchen with own flat
Living in Eastwood is the best decision you'll make at uni! My house was fully refurbished the day before we moved in; anything broken gets fixed quickly; it's ideally situated on campus close to lecture theatres and other halls but away from the SU so it's quiet at night (and security won't hear you make any noise!); houses have a really open and social kitchen/dining area (fantastic for pres); the bedrooms are a good size and it's easy to get to know you're neighbours. My house didn't have cleaning so we had to clean it all ourselves which was gross at times but good prep for second year!
A minute walk away from the main lecture hall
Really good value, good location and great banter. Rooms are actually some of the largest on campus as well
Way more spacious than other pricey rooms on and off campus! Don't be put off by the price - Eastwood is great!
Close to all the major lecture halls and cheapest around campus
Good cost but poor shower facilities
I love Eastwood. I think it's an amazing community and everyone I've met here agrees. We have to do our own cleaning, but we get regular inspections so it stays clean anyway, cleaner, I've heard than other halls. Our rooms are bigger than the quads, and only a fraction of the price. It's no more than a 7 minute walk from anywhere on campus, and the Chancellor's Building is 2 minutes away. It's great. 10/10 would pick Eastwood again.
Get what you expect with the cheapest accommodation, good social connections and close to main services
Great value for money and really decent conditions
Gets dirty, but great social community feeling. Love it.
A humbling overpriced prison cell.
We had some great times and memories here, not the best social space but cosy and we had an amazing experience!
Great location and we just use our kitchen as a social space, big rooms and nice bathroom facilities.
great place to be if you're not fussy about sharing facilities. though can get very noisy and very messy with so many people in such a small space
I f****** love it cheap and cheerful. No pretentious people just good times
It's a little crowded for the 13 of us but overall I'm enjoying living here
Eastwood is great for the price you pay. It is far better than any of the online pictures show. A down side is that it is not as social as the other accommodation. But if you're an outgoing person, you can probably broaden your connections in other ways.
It's so much better than you think it will be - rooms are actually pretty big and the kitchens are decent, although can get crowded if everyone wants to cook at once. Having 13 people in a house is good as there are lots of opportunities to make friends and it's really handy for anywhere on campus. Once a week kitchen and bathroom cleans are a huge bonus. It's also great in freshers week as there are freshers reps that come around and make you feel really welcome and it's just generaly a really fun place to be
Big kitchen, managed to fit a park table with bench in it.
Great home! Very spacious but cleaning is an issue - wasn't v clean before we got here and so we had to clean it ourselves but hey ho
The halls contain the bare minimum, however we did not have any oven trays or a hoover.
Not as bad as people make it seem. The house atmosphere is so much nicer than if you were just sharing a floor. The kitchen is pretty much the social area, there's a dining area with a sofa in the corner so you can just chill out. The only fault are the stairs, they look mank.
£88 a week all inclusive. Yet, no TV or any extra facilities. No cleaning service. I expected a slightly better accomodation experience. However, excellent in terms of socialising.
Home to all the best fun in bath.
Eastwood is composed of 51 houses each with 13 people, there is a real community atmosphere and its so nice not to live on a massive corridor. Sharing with lots of people means there's always someone you'll get along with and enough for a party. Highlight of the year was a shared christmas dinner. Only downside is the lack of cleaners, so the kitchen in particular is messy. The rooms are well sized and away from the tub so you can have a quiet night in if you want.
One of the worst halls in Bath!
Overall very pleased, great value for money. Lack of a proper social space is the main downside
Very nice rooms and large desk which. Is very useful.
Great house, met great people, very messy
Pretty rubbish/old accommodation. Could do with a communal space and more kitchen facilities. Nevertheless it does the job (surviving) perfectly and I'm getting exactly what I paid for. All in all, quite good value
