The halls at Woolmanhill are slightly more expensive than private competitors but at the end of the day it is well worth it paying the extra £15 or whatever to live here than Pittodre st or elsewhere. Wooly is a wild place, a brilliant place. So what the rooms look like a "prison" the social expierience here is most definitely the best out of any halls in the city, all the private halls are dead and Hillhead is dead as well. If someone isnt hosting a pres or a sesh on any given night something is wrong. Wooly is party central no cap, if you dont like it just put on headphones and deal with it. A major con of this place is the borderline scitzo security boys, "oi no glass bottles outside, give me your Buckfast now" like ffs im just going to drag my pal of fifa so he can get onnit too. Security tend to be obsessed with kicking people out at 11, "keep the noise down or get out" its kinda frustrating. Also if your woken up at 6:30 am as the fire alarms are being tested.... its infuriating.

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation

What tenancy length do I need?

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.

Should I stay in catered student accommodation?

This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.

What is a guarantor and do I need one?

A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.

Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?

Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.

What bills will my rent include?

If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.

What is purpose-built student accommodation?

Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.

Will my student accommodation be furnished?

Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Had a nice experience saying here for first year, the rooms look a bit tired and in need of some upgrading, however it's comfortable enough. Gets pretty cold during October/November so I recommend you bring plenty of blankets. The nightlife is great, full of energy, lots of people to meet etc. The Uni is just over an hour walk from Woolmanhill, buses leave Union Street every 5-10 minutes to the campus, a short walk to the center. The early morning fire alarm tests are annoying though - and usually at 6:30am every week without warning. Overall, I think its a good experience.

Had an awful experience living in this place when I studied in Aberdeen. The design of the halls is akin to a prison. Grey brick walls and exposed piping everywhere. The whole place is disgusting. Walls are paper thin so you can hear everything going on around you. Parties non stop. Drunk 17 year olds galore thinking they’re auditioning for a new season of Skins. Fire alarms every other day. Absolutely avoid these flats of coming to RGU to study.

This place is a trap, where should I start ? It costs between 90 and 130 quids and gives you very little for what could either be comfort or privacy. The testing for the fire alarm is borderline schizophrenic, they check it every week, doing also drills and if that is not enough all the fire alarms are connected within the building so, if regardless of who's the cause everyone has to evacuate the building at any time of the day or night. Apartments are inspected constantly. The rooms look like a prison, there isn't very much air flux and if you keep the window closed for the night due to the cold you wake up with an headache due to the lack of oxygen. This assuming that you still managed to sleep because there is people constantly partying all night and the staff, regardless of the premises, does very little to take care of the noise. Find yourself a private accommodation, it's cheaper and far more reliable than this hellhole.

This Accommodation is good for party, if you want a peaceful place to study and learn, this probably is the worst place. There is party going on almost every single night, there are people fighting, lots of drunk people, and aggressive people. Yeah there are people steal your food too, and don't try to report to the rise life team, because the member of the rise life team are also part of the party animals...... and most time they won't get anything done anyway. If you are just over 18 and just moved out from your parents house, want to feel the "freedom" yeah this is the best place for you.

WoolmanHELL: worst place I have ever lived. The doors in the flat SLAM shut; if one of your flatmates decides to wake up at 5am every day, going to the bathroom & kitchen, you will not be able to sleep through it. Additionally, the walls are so thin that you can hear the person in the room next to yours even when they are brushing their teeth. Staff will come by every single day to pull the fire alarms to check that they are working; wanna take a nap midday? They will not even warn you beforehand that they are conducting checks. There's a smokers area in the middle of the complex; when people come home from a night out, they will usually hang out in this area for a couple HOURS, chatting very loudly. This is absolutely the worst housing decision I have ever made.

This accommodation is targeted at 17 year old students who have their first experience getting away from home and their parents. It's full of screaming girls, drama, stupid injuries people get while being drunk and more drama. The interior is a replica of a prison. Your room's walls are decorated by painted construction blocks and several pipes. It is almost impossible to end your lease once you move in. In addition to noise from blasting speakers the doors bang so loudly that if any of your flatmates (or neighbors) enter the flat or their room during the night you are guaranteed to wake up. There is a train track going just past the halls which's night time construction will last for a few more years. (drilling wholes and cutting down trees at 03 am) Your flat will be regularly visited for every kind of inspection you can possibly think of. In spite of all the downsides Woomanhill is perfect for people who wish to party EVERY day and social climb (and fail at least one course).

Woolmanhill is fun during freshers week after this it is absolutely awful. I would not recommend staying in these halls at all. Complete prison and the single bed is terrible.

I lived in Woolmanhill Flats for a year and would like to say that although the flats are average ,yet you do get so used to it that you wont live anywhere else. The flats pride itself on the great location and city center is just round the corner. I had great flatmates which actually added a lot to my everlasting experience associated with that place.
