REVEALED: UK University Acceptance Rates 2019
UPDATE: Looking for the latest data? We’ve got the university acceptance rate for 2021 here.
Google searches for “university acceptance rate” have increased a lot over recent years.
In fact, from September 2013 to September 2018 searches increased by a staggering 714% – here’s a link to the interactive graph.
At StudentCrowd, we noticed this huge rise in searches.
We decided to source and publish university acceptance rate data to help prospective students who search for this information.
Defining the acceptance rate:
According to UCAS’ End of Cycle Report 2018, the acceptance rate statistic is defined as the proportion of applicants who are accepted (placed) onto a university course.
In other words, the percentage of applicants who meet conditional requirements and ultimately choose to enrol at the university in question.
The acceptance rate statistic should not be confused with the offer rate, which UCAS defines as the percentage of applicants who received an offer from the university.
In order to identify the top 50 universities in the UK with the highest acceptance rates, we gathered the latest available data, published by UCAS on the 25th of January 2019.
It relates to applications and acceptances of UK students in June 2018. The acceptance rate statistic is calculated by taking the number of acceptances divided by the number of applicants.
What does this data show us?
This is where it gets a little tricky.
University acceptance rates can be an indicator of quality from the student perspective.
A higher acceptance rate indicates that a higher proportion of applicants accepted university offers.
For students who meet their conditional requirements, ultimately, they will accept an offer from the university that in their opinion, has the highest quality course, facilities, opportunities and more.
However, the statistic is exposed to other factors such as the number of applicants per university space.
Nevertheless, it is clear that prospective students are looking for this data (see 714% increase in Google searches).
As a result, we have added a feature to each of our university profiles to display; the acceptance rate, total applicants, total acceptances and offer rate – here’s an example.
Here are the 50 UK Universities with the highest acceptance rates:
