Lush uni and great campus. Societies can be elitist but that's the same as anywhere else! Overall a great university to attend with plenty of great events and facilities.
Events cost a lot to attend ie, sports awards, summer ball and even have to pay a lot for graduation. But the academic facilities, resources and support is good. With my course (journalism) where we don't have a lot of contact hours, we do most of our work independently, but the resources we are given to help us and the people we meet make my course worth it. And the way it is structured works because it prepared us for the industry we're going into.
An absolutely amazing place to study and start your next chapter
The uni itself is a nice small uni and classes are never massive. Nice for those who don’t want to have to be in a room with hundreds of people at a time. However, my course has not been helpful with marking and student services very rarely actually help to improve grades.
Good University for those who are part of a society but poor night life
As an international student, the university has really been engaged in my well-being throughout my first year.
Winchester is a lovely place to live and the university is as good as you make it.
Student services and mental health services are extremely poor. SU doesn’t do much to change or help any issues. The dean and faculty of arts is helpless. Funding is being cut more and more. The town is pretty boring and everything is expensive
In our third week we were attacked by another student on university grounds, they refused to remove him from the university and their lack of action led to him not being sent to prison as the courts saw the lack of action as complacency.
i have had a lovely time at UOW
Small campus which instantly makes you feel comfortable. However, it needs more study spaces. Sports teams are huge whilst other societies struggle to keep going. A really good and modern SU but the vault needs to be expanded to accomodate the growing number of students. Brilliant and very helpful careers service if you choose to use them and decent internet and wifi.
Very small, kind of antisocial. Not very multi cultural. Boring. Good that it’s small though because it’s easy to find places. Not much to see or do and is only good for about 4 of the courses so I’ve heard. Film course is not good hence why I’m trying to go to a different university to do a more art based course
The University of Winchester is undoubtably falling short when it comes to being a desirable and interesting university. Although a few union events are made they are repetitive and become a students worst nightmare after a while. The halls are mixed with some being new and updated whereas others are falling apart and should not be lived in (especially for the price charged). After three years at the university I have never received a single hint of help on future careers. The university needs a serious update - instead of spending money on new things try to update the things already in place.
Awful, mental health only taken seriously if the person has a learning difficulty. Staff are horrible apart from my supervisor. They got the name of my course wrong for graduation dates.
Have basically been conned into a degree that has no budget and is not what it was sold as. They’ve even given us fake stats about where our money goes and the dean has tried to get free labour over summer from a group of us. Genuinely considering a law suit.
Brilliant, very well supported. My course is organised and exciting- physiotherapy is the best
Brilliant university! Lecturers are fantastic!
Great university, very supportive
Needs more shops on campus and better events
Everything is close together and accessible, has everything you need and is only 10 minute walk from the city centre
This uni has been my home for the last 3 years and when I say home I mean I as such. It’s supportive, comfortable and very clean. I love it here so much that I’ve chosen to stay for another. I don’t think this uni gets the credit it deserves. No one can ever do enough for you especially the student services and programme leaders. When things get tough or life throws you a curve ball the uni are there to help you on your feet again and achieve. Thank you Winchester uni
Lovely new campus with lots of new facilities and tech. Amazing opportunities throught the careers service and the student services help team. Lovely place to be, everyone is always friendly and warm.
So far I have had an amazing experience at Winchester the social aspects as well as educational have exceeded my expectations.
Terrible experience, expensive food and wouldn’t recommend
I had brilliant experience with the careers service, and they will help you even after you leave the university.
Student services is great at the university
The actual campus is nice, although very VERY hilly
unprepared for courses and unprofessionalism when dealing with students enquiries and assignments
A brilliant place. Better than I ever expected it to be. Highly recommend going there to study.
Staff didn’t care about you. Not a lot of opportunities to get involved with things.
There is a lack of newer and relevant books in the Winchester library for Marketing. Disabled/additional support is very inconvenient and doesn’t offer alternate locations for 1-1 learning sessions making them hard to attend
Where to begin... My lecturers are for the most part fine. The campus is fairly nice but the buildings advertised are nothing like the ones you will actually use. The student unions events are useless and revolve around basic boring nights out at an overpriced SU bar with awful music and have never seemed to put on a live music event despite advertising. My housing situation probably sums it up most I ended up having to live alone in a house for two months because of an error made by the university. Clubs and societies, there are plenty most of them uninteresting there are classics like rugby football etc I joined busking society for music and felt totally alienated very quickly no one even bothered to learn my name except a couple people. The internet works what else can be said Overall I’d say don’t bother even if they give you an unconditional.
Fantastic community. I am finishing my final year and I will never regret choosing winch
This uni has allowed me to become the real version of me and I will always be grateful
I enjoy every minute I spend at university both academically and socially, everything the University of Winchester offers is different and fun and I can’t wait for my final year to start.
Amazing uni! The campus is beautiful the lecturers are fantastic. They do so much to make sure the students get what they want out of their uni experience! Couldn’t have picked a better uni to go to!
Winchester is a great uni, it cares about its individuals and really does try to cater for everyone. If you need something, they’ll do their best to help you out.
I haven't got a bad thing to say. They've been 100% supportive in getting me through, student services is amazing, staff throughout the uni work together to make uni an enjoyable experience and to get you through your studies. The management on the uni whether it's security, halls or food outlets is faultless. They've gotten me through a lot, regardless of the problem. So glad I came here.
Lovely modern campus with all the facilities and resources you'll need. You genuinely feel taken care of at this university, the staff are all very kind and they treat you as an adult, not a child or a number. Winchester itself is a beautiful city, perhaps not the best for a night out (the one nightclub might not be for everyone), but it has plenty of lovely pubs and Southampton (which has many more nightclubs) is only a short journey away. Not to mention The Vault (basically a student union club) which always has events on. You feel like a member of a big family here, which is welcoming and great to be part of.
Clean campus, WiFi in house ALWAYS drops out, student nights are pretty rubbish constant Disney themed nights are NOT FUN.
The campus is beautiful and it’s all pretty much in one place, so you can easily walk to all parts of campus. Winchester has a really friendly and supportive environment and there are so many opportunities to be social and make friends.
The campus is beautiful and all the facilities are within walking distance of each other. It’s a really friendly and supportive environment, and there are so many opportunities to be social and make friends. The lecturers are really approachable and friendly, and make you feel lseen and heard, and not just like a student number in the crowd.
Poor resourcing and lack of student and staff care. If the university put as much effort into actually helping people as they do into their marketing facade that they care then it might stand a chance.
Good course choice but shockingly low number of societies and clubs outside of sporting interests
A gorgeous campus, very helpful staff and despite it being a fairly small campus, they do a fantastic job especially when it comes to events at the student union! So many opportunities for all kinds of people and fantastic support network too!
There's is a really lovely, small and friendly environment at this university campus. The staff are all helpful and friendly too.
Winchester is a lovely place! The campus is beautiful and quite small which makes it hard to get lost! All on campus housing is within good distance of lectures. All facilities on campus are great! Very eco friendly and big on recycling - they even recycle gum! I'm proud to be a Winchester student.
Wasn’t the best in terms for disabled students even the lifts would constantly break down leaving students stuck in them. Not much was put in place for students who required help especially the wait for those with mental health issues. The WiFi was intermittent at best and would often not work for days which isn’t helpful for students during their dissertation period.
The fact that it’s not big makes the experience more special as you can always see at least one person around campus you know.
I am currently a student at Winchester University and I just love it. It has an amazing atmosphere and the services are fantastic.
Eduroam is awful WiFi! I am in my third year and currently live at home and commute, facilities are good for commuters. When in first year I lived in Queens student flats, you couldn’t call from your mobile inside the flat, flat block or sometimes even the courtyard out the front - in first year this led to me missing my food shop as I didn’t have signal, meaning I lost out on food and £40. I think it needs to be easier to get into clubs and societies, especially if you decide you want to start part way through a semester. I always felt awkward showing up to trials for societies. Student union isn’t bad - good places for food/drinks.
Small, safe uni where everyone knows everyone! Night life isn’t great but the uni is good
Good University experience overall
Lots of things to do at the Student Union and lovely campus
I love the campus and staff! Such a friendly environment and makes me more motivated to do well
Love the atmosphere but could do with better communication between societies and student union, also mental health services aren't great
Careers service is absolutely awful. Wifi drops out constantly. Always had issues with the wifi. The student union are alright but could listen to students more. The campus facilities are good, although automatic doors and lifts break all the time.
Awful management in every sense possible, unprofessional staff and those outside the arts are unfair on both the staff and students, minimising their opportunities, docking funding, and trying to cut down staff. And the staff in that department work hard
Good uni, they care about the students and the food is top quality. I feel safe walking around campus at night.
Range of societies is somewhat lacking, the student union doesn't host many events, internet is oftentimes slow. However the campus is very homely, good size without being too big.
A fantastic uni, that caters to all sorts, and makes everyone feel welcomed, and important.
A university with a brilliant lecture team but a horrible administration, when studying you feel as if you are there for a reason but bedside that you are constantly being degraded and threatened by credit control if you ever find yourself in a financial situation, with constant overlooking of your needs as a student and a lack of empathy; everything concerning the student union is lacklustre at best and the only half decent social activity involving the university is the societies which create great bonding, besides that food on campus is tasteless at its best yet cheap with many computer facilities however a lot of them not working at the best of times, academically a great university however administration wise it’s horrible.
It's been okay as a commuter I'm not really involved in society's wish there was more for commuters and this not on main campus
Staff are amazing especially Ana Azar
Poor SU. Bad prices, expensive housing options
Not the worst university there is but definitely not the best. Mental health is seen as an important part of university life yet the uni doesn't actually seem to do much to ensure the students feel okay
Lectures in the arts faculty work really hard
Overall university it’s amazing, looks wise at least. The teaching needs to be improved if it wants to continue accepting students, because I had a terrible experience over my three years at the uni with teaching. Wasn’t cared about at all, I only have 4 lectures overall and in my final year they still didn’t know my name, just shows how much effort they put in to their work.
Lecturer's don't give a care in the world. Paid £27,000 for powerpoints which I could've gone through at home. Their student services, whilst helpful is still very badly managed and needs work.
The best uni especially if you are international
Good campus with good variety of food venues. However, very poor student services, with little help for mental health - more needs to be done.
Most unhelpful, mentally draining university I’ve ever experienced. My mental health is in the toilet because of this uni and how poorly it handles it’s students. Avoid at all costs.
lovely campus, such a good support network and I love my course!
Fantastic university where every student is valued and known by name
I love this University, they’ve been so supportive with my mental health. My drama course is absolutely amazing with great lecturers as well!
Winchester university has great facilities and staff.
Winchester is the most friendly and welcoming university. The staff work hard to ensure you enjoy your experience. Best 3 years of my life!
Basically finished my first year at UoW and I've loved it. I would not change my choice of Uni even if someone payed me.
Just finishing my third year of university, it has been amazing. I have met the most amazing people and had the most amazing adventures. I have been so fortunate to find like-minded down to earth people who I expect will be my friends for life.
A beautiful campus with fantastic teaching staff and facilities, student services are poor and mental health support is essentially non existent.
As joining as a third year student , the university does not cater specifically for this type of student however is more than happy to take the money. There is a complete lack of help, the grading criteria is also extremely fluid and the lecturers are very political and favoritism does reflect the great given.
at uni there now and it’s one of the best places i could’ve gone. socials are amazing and lecturers and other staff are all very supportive
Campus is always tidy and clean. Food can be quite limited and expensive. Not a massive range of sports facilities. Parking is very very limited near campus. Cost for commuting can be expensive via train. Not many weekly lectures and split over 3 days makes it difficult to work around the timetable. Library has good facilities and a nice place to study.
I couldn’t be more glad that I chose to go to the university of Winchester. I’ve had such a good first year and met so many amazing people
Amazing university, staff are all supportive of their students
WiFi always connects, all staff are helpful and willing, the student union is amazing and does much more than most unis and there are many societies that everyone can be part of
The housing team are awful. Bullied by my drug taking alcoholic flatmates (I was made to move not them) and then moved in with more drug takers. Tried to charge me for leaving onsite accommodation. Happened to at least three of my friends as well. Exposed to nudity in and outside the flat. Poorly handled. Course had multiple close deadlines (four in two weeks, one an exam) and it took a long time to get work back.
Good student services department very understanding and helped me get the diagnosis I've been waiting 5 years for. Trampolining society is amazing so accepting and inclusive
I've greatly enjoyed my time at Winchester, the small campus is a great boon to locality and teacher-student contact.
My main issue with Winchester is their mental health support is literally none existent. I suffered for the two years I was there before I decided to drop out and I was literally getting thrown around by the uni and I felt like they weren’t really concerned or believed me? Could be a lot better.
Shocking support for some course from the uni, no help to the lectures at all
Since starting at the university in 2017, I have enjoyed every moment there! The staff in the law department are helpful, committed and incredibly intelligent, with personal touches to their teaching and are always very approachable. The facilities are vast and range from outdoor spaces, indoor spaces, with great equipment at our disposal and modern technology and design. There is a great community feel throughout the university and being apart of a society only expands upon that!
I love Winchester. Not simply the university, but the place itself is somewhere you can feel safe walking around and is easy to meet people anywhere you go. I was accepted here after going through clearing and I am so thankful as it is somewhere that is supportive, interesting and above all enjoyable.
As a smaller campus, everything is easy to get to and feels very inclusive. While you get a little help if you know what you want to do as a career there is not a lot of help in achieving that goal
My favourite place and second home! I am a second year and honestly don’t want to leave. I have visited other universities and found that our student union is much more active than many others and we have lots of events having throughout the week. Facilities are all fantastic, especially the library.
An amazing university with a really friendly staff and a serene feeling of welcomeness and friendliness
I’m so glad I came to Winchester and I couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else!
I was really fortunate to be able to study abroad in my second year. The University was really helpful with this and I felt it enriched my degree.
Studied Liberal Arts at the Uni. It was difficult but brilliant. Best thing is that the teaching was second to none, also really felt like they cared.
The internet does not work at all in certain dorms. It cuts off and logs you out about every minute. Some dorms are also very dirty and have nasty carpets. The food on campus is a joke. You can hardly get food when you want it. Places close whenever they want and there isn’t really many options either. I would save your money and go to another school. I’m an international student and only here for a semester and I regret it all. This place is a joke. Nothing like its advertised. They spend all the money here on the terrible parties rather than serving the students with good dorms and food. It’s ridiculous. The teachers are decent, but nothing to go crazy about as assignment guidelines are never really clear. The clubs here also are a waste. It’s more about partying than inclusion and sport. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE!
