First year at university was great until the cracks begin to show in second year with the lack of quality tutors and bas8c equipment. Also paying ridiculous amount of money to make basic models.
Good teaching and accommodation
Gives plenty of opportunities to students such as clubs, promoting their own business and earning money or opportunities to help with their study and future career
It's alright but nothing amazing
This university is brilliant. World-class education
Good university am happy I chose here wish night life was better
An amazing university. Definitely worth studying in!
There's not much to do in Hatfield, and the University doesn't do much to make up for it. The best service is Active Students, the worst is the dreadful SU club 'The Forum'.
Homely, pastoral, friendly, lots going on (on-Campus club and pub are wonderful!), the student centre is helpful and Wellbeing Centre is wonderful, the entire university takes great care of students. The campus itself is aesthetically lovely, and it's so close to London which is great!
Dropped out after 7 months. Attended open day and was in group chats before hand and it really didn’t paint an honest picture as to what studying there would be like.
If it wasn’t for Hertfordshire I wouldn’t have gone to university
Everything is massively overpriced, and the teaching is s*** and repetitive. Nothing to do in Hatfield.
- amazing campus - beautiful new buildings and refurbished buildings - amazing lecturers - the students union is okay, could be improved - library is great - Starbucks and Subway on campus! - more parking needed
Since starting my course in 2017 I can honestly say I have been let down. Not only do staff not seem to care but I have been given pretty much 0 support since starting. The pressure is surreal and not only this to even be able to do my course we need to be working. Shocking!
WiFi is the worst thing on campus, we pay a rediculous amount that out student loans barely cover and the WiFi doesn’t even work. I don’t want to live in the library or plugged into an Ethernet cable. The campus shop is also crap. Never any food on there. Nothing around campus either. The facilities (gym etc) and the active student is great. It’s a pretty campus and the accommodation is great. (Apart from the WiFi)
Fantastic uni with lots of support
Hertfordshire could be better. First of all there’s nothing interesting at Hatfield for the students. The life at this university doesn’t help you to find a motivation to study at all.
Found the teaching very lax. Workshop staff in the Art department didn't help you and a few times we had to involve the tutors to allow us to use the workshop. Computers often didn't work, WiFi was up and down, library was always rammed busy and catering staff were all rude in cafes and restaurants (apart from student union run restaurants) Almost regret attending Hertfordshire university
University of Hertfordshire has the great faculty in all departments with some some of the best facilities in England.
Internet is flaky and doesn't work a lot of the time. The club is pitiful and you'll have to travel far to find anything remotely half decent. The student union could definitly be doing better to create a more fun environment for students. And campus facilities could do with some serious upgrading, especially the computers
Very good environment for study with friendly and approachable staff.
Good lecture and lab facilities, great campus and helpful staff
Overall experience at university is superb having access to all the facilities that are required by students.
I hadn't even intended on going to uni but changed my mind and chose here, best decision I ever made! I love uni life, love mt classes and have so many friends!
Very good university especially for international students
I absolutely love my time at uni of Herts however there are some down points - the student union isn’t the best and WiFi across campus is poor (including the accom). Hatfield itself is sufficient however the only club in the area is the one on campus. The societies are very refined to mainly sports, and there doesn’t seem to be much support available to start up your own society. My geography course and lecturers made my uni experience.
Generally good, clean campus with lots of opportunities
The worst uni. Moved along with many others after first year. If you tell someone this is my old uni they laugh and say how unlucky that is. Nothing good about it like honestly nothing. Maybe the buses between campus but then that’s not run by the uni. Don’t be deceived that it looks nice and big. It’s awful, no one knows how to teach and especially at uni degree level!! They teach GCSE standards
Awful. Moved uni along with many others after 1st year. Studied business management and economics and I didn’t learn a thing, after 2 weeks at another uni I learnt more than I did in a whole year here. didn’t tell me about exams and blamed there mistake on me. Tutors do not care. SU is non existent. In the middle of no where, all I can say is do not go here if you want a life and a good uni degree !! Campuses are full of rats aswell
Great university for my course and students who are dedicated to their degree. In a fairly secluded area and not a good night life. It’s possible to be involved in a lot of social and sport events however they are probably not up to the standards of other universities. Good for someone looking for somewhere quiet to focus on studying and a small social group.
It a clean campus , there are helpful people who give you right advice
Brilliant uni with brilliant opportunity especially in relation to law
The uni is a fantastic place to study, with staff who have really life experience in all different fields.
Enjoyable time, nice people. Lectures generally engaging, modern and growing
Couldn't ask for a better uni. The staff are all so friendly and looking out for you, from the lecturers, to the cleaners, security and ground maintenance.
My experience at the uni has been great so far. The environment is great with no study pressure at all and very well educated and supportive faculty. Its one of the best institutes in Uk at this moment.
The university life here is great, an amazing balance between studying and also having fun.
Not too bad. Funny how this review doesn't take into account teaching standards, which is the unis worst point
Housing are not helpful. They say they do not tolerate thieves yet during my stay, there was someone who kept stealing and writing nasty things on doors. We contacted them and they said they'll send out an email to plan a meeting. Kept chasing them up and till this day nothing was done. You're better off staying off uni campus considering there is no help anyway.
Good university with amazing student support and activities
Accommodation help desk is appalling other than that it’s a good uni
The university is great! It has plenty of facilities and you never find yourself bored. It’s positioned close to a shopping outlet so if you ever want to get off campus there’s only a short walk. The WiFi could do with improving but over all it’s not bad.
The campus had a lovely homely feel to it but there could have been a better nightlife. Working for the elehouse was great and always had a really great time with my colleagues! Overall a very positive time there.
I would rate the WiFi less if I could. The university isn’t helpful in terms of mental health, disappointing.
Great campus. SU could do more though. No nightlife
Nothing much happens on campus, there’s only one good night in the week to go out which is a Wednesday and apart from that we mainly stay in the flat or just in our own rooms. The weekends are the worst, most people go home as they live nearby so it’s a complete ghost town and those that are still here are again stuck with nothing to do unless you have a job. The WiFi is poor and always disconnects every 10 minutes. The only good thing is the style of the accommodation as it is very new and the sports village which has a good gym and pool. As far as societies and sports clubs go there aren’t many to choose from and most societies are aimed at the international students, since that is the majority Of the population here. London is only half an hour away on the train but being a student you can’t really afford trips there all the time.
There is rarely anything going on on the campus, only one really good night at the Forum on a wednesday but the rest of the week everyone is bored and spend most of our time just in the flat. The weekends are the worst, most people go home as they live nearby and it’s like a ghost town. Nothing happening in Hatfield town either, just the galleria shopping centre. Only good thing is the sports village which has good facilities and the fact that London is only half an hour on the train but being a student means trips to and from London aren’t something you can do every week. I am leaving at the end of first year because I feel spending 2 more years here would be a waste of time and money.
Night life is pretty dead, not much to do throughout the university can make your own entertainment with flat parties, but some flatmates are really horrible. Good teaching staff though and beautiful campus
Great campus, great lecturers and really good social activities. Only issue is UNO bus price, but still a good service.
The exam papers are an absolute disgrace with trick questions and errors. Resulting in failure. They ramble on in some papers and don't cover the range some not even what your taught. No practical sessions instead you use simulator software WIFI Is dreadful the only books are obsolete osx ones. Nothing related to assignments if an assignment is late its capped, deadlines aren't well spaced. This 4 computer science other than the above its nice/nice campus
Avoid, specifically the nursing degree. There are plenty of resources at the library to help with pass the course, nevertheless, the subjects are not adequate nor well organised. For instance, there are not enough simulation hours to practice nursing skills, instead, we spend time in the classroom discussing dignity/empowerment or learning theories. I understand that the course is 50% theory and 50% practice but it is frustrating to invest and sit in a classroom to discuss learning theories when it is not directly applicant to day to day nursing skills. What my peers normally ask and I also agree is that if a patient is having a cardiac arrest, how knowing about Jean Piaget's theory will help them to respond to that situation? The point is, they should give focus to what is important for nurses. Discuss the latest treatments and teach them detailed ecg interpretation , blood results reading and vice versa. AVOID period.
It is a great university with a highly motivated management. However, the local council and the city center needs fresh energy. The university should also fight for the Oxford - Cambridge expressway to be renamed as Universities corridor and go through Bedfordshire and Hatfield University to give an impetus to these two universities as well.
Best 3 years, great prospects!
The wifi is seriously better at a homeless shelter
University of Hertfordshire Optometry A quick review of the University. The course is not organised the lecture are not to a professional standard and the lectures are very intimidating and constant have let us down with mistakes in exams to missing out lectures. Also the pre reg is not great they promised us that we are able to do pre reg at home and they have constant lie to us Save your self the stress and do not attend this university they put in rules mid way through the university and change a great deal of the modules. Do not apply here and i am someone who regrets my decision. We dont get any help and they do not care about your wellbeing
I enjoyed everything about this university
University of Hertfordshire has great services such as the SU. There are always events and things to do including colour runs, treasure hunts and nights out! The facilities are also good, including a Sports Village, LRC and SU Shop. I found the careers service helpful for interview prep etc. and from an academic side there is always support from CASE classes. At UH you won't get bored and are supported!
I love my uni, the LRC is great and the people there are really helpful. If I'm doing projects and need help they can always find what I need. I live on campus and it's great having everything here, there's even a pharmacy and a doctors. I'm a student ambassador too so help out at open days and that gets me a bit of extra cash. On my course I can do a year abroad and I can't wait for that next year, well, have to get through this one first. The best thing is the atmosphere, it's really inclusive, warm and helpful. I've found some new friends and I love that.
The university of Hertfordshire has amazing facilities- including a sports village, LRC and an engaging Student Union! There are also loads of societies including Archery, Rugby, dancing etc so you can't get bored around here! The academic support is also very good such as CASE classes to help improve your writing and many other skills. Additionally, the careers office are very helpful by helping you prep for interviews, review your CV and cover letter etc. At UH you are not alone!
BEd. So easy. Only way to fail 2.1 is to. Not turn up at the exams.
It's an expensive nursery for immature millennials, honestly go and get a job already. not worth the £40k of student loan debt.
The facilities of the University is great! Most professors are really helpful and what the best for you. A sports club is worth it (expensive tho) But adds a little entertainment in your life and friendly people. Or any society clubs as Hatfield is soooo boring you should look into clubs and societies. The forum life is great from what all my friends say. The LRC can be loud at times because of students who only came to the university to look man or woman. And yes the WiFi is horrible!!! But lastly it's a decent University and I will recommend it coming from a computer science student.
Haven't had an issues with the university so I cant comment. Wi-Fi cant cope with the load and sometimes completely goes down with no warning for as few hours. Kind of a problem if you're trying to hand in ort get work down.
Do not live on de Havilland unless you have to.
Great university. Great links to London. Very small boring town. Only one club. Good 24 hour Asda and McDonalds. Modern university with great facilities. Amazing sports teams.
The wifi in the College Lane LRC is horrendous, the connection is intermittent at best and too slow to work with. They will supply you with an ethernet cable if you ask, however your luck will be in if the port on the desk actually works. It feels like the LRC maintenance budget has been completely stripped, else it is visible that there has been complete negligence for service quality checks from the university. Although a lot of new accommodation is available, it is well outside the living budget of any student without parental financial assistance. It is most clear to see that management have set a precedent for new buildings to be built and to ignore any maintenance of existing facilities.
okay let me be clear. the wifi does not work 90 percent of the time. De hav is full of roadmen and stinks of weed..if you go to the de hav library at after 9pm its like a south London council estate..The canteen s decent. the girls will not bang unless your a roadman..if you want to go to the slums go to this uni..
Excellent university. The school of education is brilliant. The lectures are knowledgeable and genuinely want you to do well. Great support is also offered.
Th campus is a good escape from Hatfield...
please make the internet better!!
It has lot to offer for students both in academic and social services.
Avoid this university if you are serious about study. The university invests its time and resources into shiny new buildings and state of the art facilities, but what good is any of that if the courses and teaching available inside is next to useless?? (I would go into more detail on how poor some of the courses are here, but there is a word limit. Other than the farce that is teaching at this university student attitude towards study is a joke. For example you find students speaking in London Chav slang strutting in and out of the law building. Then you have these amazing library facilities utterly ruined by loud and aggressive behaviour from individuals treating it as a common room of sorts. If you don't want to study why go to the library? Overall its up to you, but you are worth a lot more than this place. To close this review imagine an 18-21yr old throwing a chair at their mate inside the library, this behaviour is not uncommon.
Terrible wifi, but they reassure us they're fixing it.......... Anyway, lovely campus, like 20mins from kings cross via train.
Nothing to do in hatfield , forum is terrible and fire alarm kept going off and ending the nights half way through , only shops are a drive or bus away , gym is good but expensive , lots of t*** who play american football and think theyre in the nfl
Wifi is a disgrace esp eduroam
Love my halls they a lovely and new. Live in a town house so ground floor is great for socialising with sofas and to
Being in my final year, I've really enjoyed my time at University and I'll miss the student life. I won't miss Hatfield as it's very quiet and there isn't much to do off campus. However this makes student accommodation off campus very affordable for most students.
wifi connection was very poor, nearly missed deadlines due to the weak/no connection
Very helpful lecturers. Great learning environment.
Campus is great but wifi not so much
Yeah it's alright a bit dead at times
Absimal Wifi, the worst place for it is in the LRC which is the most important place to have it surely. The food is expensive, the rooms are extortionate and almost £50 more a week than almost all housing off campus.
Uni facilities are great and at least College Lane accomodation is brand new and very comfortable. Teaching level is very good but not top class, at least in engineering
its s*** stay away if possible seriously
A updated campus, fantastic students union and nightlife venue. Would recommend UH for the student experience offered.
I live in de havilland campus and wifi can be a bit temperamental sometimes, other than that Herts is a very social university, the nightlife is what you make it
accomodation is quite expensive and hot water keeps going off.. fantastic. WiFi is pretty shocking for a uni campus and there isnt much on campus to do .. and 6 washing machines between like 4000 students isnt exactly ideal. I've live in maclean court for nearly 2 months now and our launderette still isnt open, neither is the common room...
The university has so much to offer. Lots of extra curricular activities and opportunities to make friends from everywhere. Lectures are very friendly too. Don't be afraid to ask them questions
With how expensive the Accomodation is I would expect the wifi to work 90% of time, but it doesn't even work in the kitchen!
It's cool however lectures are long and there isn't enough support for struggling students
There's lots to do and things going on all the time.
Wifi is s***, societies are s***, the forum is s***, the rooms are s*** but atleast ASDA is 24 hours
Great place to study. The area is nice and quiet.
It's a good experience but they really need to work better for arranging employement which is the reoson of every student behind joining any university
The university is very modern and offers good accommodation and sports facilities. The surrounding area has loads of shops and places to visit.
Had a decent university experience here, and wouldn't change it for any other uni now
Fun time had throughout education
Amazing campus and facilities, great staff and lots of opportunities. Internet's not so good at times, but with so much going on I'm hardly finding time to game online anyway!
First I was worried about the University because of the ranking but now after joining the UOH, I am happy that it was a sensible step. The University is a full package.
Amazing facilities, many opportunities available for social interaction no matter what your interests are. Friendly and welcoming staff across the board
