All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

DO NOT BOOK HERE!!! my flat has gone DAYS without water and maintenance DOES NOT CARE!! they check out the problem DAYS AFTER it has been "reported." my food goes moldy within 2 DAYS of purchasing it because of fridge issues, which we reported multiple times MONTHS AGO and no one has checked it out. the only value this accommodation provides is its location to the bus and LUAS stops. that's IT. i'm warning you, DO. NOT. BOOK. THIS. ACCOMMODATION.

The location is great for college and the city but furniture is very worn and some kitchen appliances are broken.
The best part of Broadstone Hall is the location. I go to TU Dublin and Broadstone is a 10 minute walk away from campus. Also, Broadstone is located directly on the LUAS line and next to many different busses. It is very easy to get anywhere in Dublin from Broadstone. The rooms in Broadstone have everything you need to study and sleep well. I had a leak in my shower in January. I told the front desk staff about it and it was fixed within two hours. I've heard other student accommodations take ages to fix problems. I was pleasantly surprised at how quick they managed to fix the leak. The staff are always very friendly and welcoming. They are very accommodating to all situations if you talk to them. They have also done their best to organise social events for us that comply with covid guidelines. The best part of the building is the gym. The Broadstone gym has really good machines and weights. Lastly,
I stayed in Broadstone Hall for the 2020/2021 academic year which has unfortunately meant the social spaces were restricted. However the team has been super friendly, and organised plenty of well-being and social events for residents - which I appreciate is no small task. The residence itself is very nicely fitted out with spacious rooms, I found the proximity to most major supermarkets and good public transport links to be very convenient (despite most of my college course taking place remotely). The wifi is extremely fast which was great for the many video meetings I needed to engage in. As one would expect with any student halls there were some small maintenance issues but it was reassuring to have them handled in a timely manner, nothing ever became a long-standing issue. I’ve had a very nice stay in Broadstone Hall, I’d struggle to find fault with the residence or the management team and can safely recommend both Broadstone and Uninest!
