All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

The property manager has been really helpful and kind to me over my time I have spent here and made me feel welcome.
I promise you, you would never want a place here there are many other better places than here. You will regret getting an accommodation here. You will not get the service your promised as I asked for my mattress to be changed the day I moved in and it’s been 6-7 months since. The water changes colour and it’s horrible. This place you will hate it I promise. Better off getting a uni accommodation.Everything about here is vile, they hadn’t even cleaned my room when I moved in, shower area was dirty, hobs were dirty and everything else dirty. Getting an accommodation here you’ll regret for sure.
Even though covid has made everything a nightmare, repairs/issues have been resolved fairly quickly. Good value for money
Alexandra House is a perfect distance from campus and town! The management team is lovely and they keep on track of maintenance issues. Iv had no issues with the wifi since iv been at Alexandra House and don't have much to complain about regarding internet connection. My room is spacious and offers everything a university student could need.
Great team working there happy to help with what they can and are friendly to talk to. Wifi is not the best and often you have to phone up the company to reset it, depending on where your room is. Most rooms come with Ethernet cables and if you dont have one they are happy to sort one out. Slight issues with the room when moved in however after the owner change was done issues were sorted. Other people there are friendly, although could be a bit loud at times they are happy to quieten down if you need them to. Common room was often left in a mess for the cleaner which isn't always the nicest to go in and some sofas are broken a bit. Great distance from town just a short walk and right next door to the University.

Terrible experience! The management doesn't respond. Rooms are dirty and most of the set up in rooms doesn't work. The sockets are broken, bathrooms are flooded and there is wall seepage. Definitely not a place one can stay even for one night.
Well located, quiet, friendly staff and well equipped and clean room. Good Wifi. Highly recommended.
Great location, common area clean and tidy. Very good value for money. Also convenient as all bills are included.
Not very sociable, studios too. Cleaning was up to a very good standard, the common room was always cleaned to perfection. Made a few good friends but had to go out of my way a lot compared to other halls where socialising is more "natural"
