I currently live in a studio, and honestly its worth the money. When i’m sick the staff would bring me my parcels and anything I would need, they treat you like family more than a tenant, they do events which helps you socialise with other students, as a muslim during ramadan someone did make a iftar and suhoor group chat so we break our fast together and start it together and not feel alone. Location is perfect has behind the building there’s a farmfood which have amazing deals on food and TkMax

All the Answers You Need About Student Accommodation
What tenancy length do I need?
Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
Should I stay in catered student accommodation?
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
What is a guarantor and do I need one?
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Will I need to pay a deposit on student accommodation?
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
What bills will my rent include?
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
What is purpose-built student accommodation?
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Will my student accommodation be furnished?
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.

Its so great to hear that our staff have helped you feel at home! We are so happy that you enjoyed our events, location and facilities, and we thank you for leaving such a positive review for the team!
It was easy to settle in to the accommodation. I had plenty of time before uni to move in and figure out where I fit in. I don't think I would of been as comfortable without out one of our on site managers Indie. She made sure I felt welcomed and I always felt safe and able to ask her for something if something went wrong or I needed a question answered. Our security team was also really nice !! The common area is rather large and it's a great place to study or socialise. I spent most of my weeks leading up to my deadline in there studying and doing work. The rooms could be bigger for the price I payed but overall I wouldn't say its bad. Our kitchen was well equipped. (Although things did break and it could be a hassle to get fixed). The rooms come with a really nice desk and wardrobe and the bed is super comfortable.
Thank you so much for this positive review. We are so glad to hear that our team helped you feel at home!
I love the vibes here the team here is very friendly and the residents are too friendly as well i have seen many other accomodation but i think this is the most socialized accomodation compared to any other one i spent a great quality and productive time on this accomodation there was no single day i felt lonely after moving from my country
Thank you so much for this amazing review. We are so glad to hear that you made loads of friends!
For being one of the cheapest accoms it's really good. I'm booking it again for my second year.
Benedicts gate is a perfect place to live in. Close to city center, NUA and the location is great! Really recommend this place as the staff are also very friendly!
benedict's gate is a good place to live overall, the city centre and university itself only 10 minutes away and easy to get to with just one road to follow, also have plenty of shops near with Tesco and coop down the road. The staff are friendly and security is okay. the building itself is nice, the social spaces are quite small. Rooms are a good size and kitchens are fully equipped. benedict's doesnt really care about visitors you can have them as often as you want. But everywhere has downsides, benedict's houses under 18s so you could be living with 16/17year olds. Maintenance is temperamental in my opinion, showers block easily and occasionally run out of water, sinks also run out of cold water often. You cannot smoke in the courtyard past 11pm so you have to smoke in the car park which can be sketchy with homeless people. all the rooms are the same size but you pay more just to be a higher floor which is a bit of a scam, otherwise its okay and a nice place to live for first year.
Hi, Thank you for your review, we really appreciate it! Please note we only allow University Students to live at Benedict's Gate and have taken on board your comments on how we can create a better place to live for our Residents. We’re glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us! Many thanks,The Benedict’s Gate Residents’ Team
It’s very very loud here and the windows are loose so you can hear everyone outside. There’s a very fast turnover of security guards so most of them don’t know what they’re doing. When I moved in parts of my studio didn’t work so i couldn’t cook for 2 weeks. It’s absolutely boiling at all times because there is no air con and you can’t open the windows. Wifi constantly disconnects. If you’re on the bottom floor you can pretty much hear everytime someone flushes. There’s a “cafe” which is 2 vending machines. The study area is attached to the lounge so quiet study is basically not possible, there’s also only 1 lounge so it gets commandeered and not really shared. The rooms are absolutely tiny for the price. Studio kitchens have no storage space and the freezer is big enough for a bag of peas, you have no access to an oven so have to learn to cook with a microwave and hob. The toilets struggle to flush.
Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback on Benedict's Gate. We’re sorry to hear that you don’t feel your experience at Benedict’s Gate has been as great as we’d have hoped. All of our windows are triple glazed, which means most noise pollution should be eliminated. It sounds like we need to take a look at your window as it should not be loose, we’re happy to do this at any time during office hours, just visit us at Reception or give us a call on 01603 516420. The management team will always be available to help address and resolve any of your concerns. We appreciate your feedback with regards to our security team and we fully agree that the service delivered by the third party Security provider has so far been less than satisfactory. The good news is that we have ended our contract with this provider and we are now proud to announce a new working relationship with a company named Chroda who have assured us that there will be significant improvements to the service going forward. Our two most experienced Security guards along with a new member of the team will now be available out of office hours to help you with anything you need. We regularly receive positive feedback concerning these staff members and are pleased that they are now permanent members of the team. Air conditioning is rarely found within the individual rooms of any rental property in the UK. With its mild climate the UK is a country of radiators, not air conditioning and only around 0.5% of properties here are installed with air conditioning units. Although there is no air conditioning within the apartments your windows should be able to open to let the breeze in, if any are locked please make us aware and we will unlock these for you right away. Additionally, we are more than happy to lend you a fan if necessary. Our Studios feature at least 2 kitchen cupboards and a drawer. The fridge freezer provided within a Studio is a standard size for a purpose built student accommodation and features a freezer compartment of around 11L. We also encourage students to bring their own appliances to make themselves feel more at home, including a mini freezer or air fryer. The microwave provided is a multifunctional combination microwave which serves as an oven as well as a grill. If you need assistance on how to use any item within your Studio or around the building please let us know and we’ll be happy to help. We value all feedback we receive and have recently brought up multiple adjustment/amendment ideas for our social spaces to our Head Office. If you are experiencing issues with the WiFi connection, please get in touch with our providers at ASK4, their number is 0114 303 3232 or go to https://support.ask4.com/4-2/contact-us/# and click 'Chat Now' for their live messaging service. If you would like to discuss anything you have mentioned further our inbox is always open (benedictsgate@thisisfresh.com) and you are always welcome to visit Reception during office hours to have a chat with either myself or one of the team. – Sophie
Benedict's Gate is a great hall to live in! The location is perfect, the social spaces are really good (and big, which is great with distancing!) and the staff are almost all really kind and eager to help with any questions or concerns. I also know they've got lots of plans for when social events are able to take place again. One downside is that the internet plan limits how many devices I can use. My biggest concern is that the security staff here is... really bad. They're hostile, don't speak much English and just don't do their jobs- i've never seen them outside of sat in reception with their feet up on their phones, playing games or watching TV shows while ignoring genuine issues. At night when I've reported loud noises they've taken a long time to go and feebly attempt to stop the disruption that's usually over by the time they get there- and then they come into my flat to tell me they couldn't help!? I appreciate them wanting to tell me but it's 4am! Let me sleep :/
Hi Ponyo! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on Benedict's Gate. We're so pleased to hear that you think Benedict's Gate is a great place to live. We've got some great social spaces including our large study area, comfy lounge complete with 75" TV and our complimentary pool table at Reception. We have also been running a variety of social events as government guidelines have been eased and we've definitely got more in store for September. We're sorry to hear that you've reached your limit of 5 devices, but you can add more! Our providers 'Ask 4' offer the option of increasing this count at a small cost for the entire academic year. To increase devices simply access your Ask 4 Account and select the plan that suits your needs. We would also like to apologise for the way our security members have acted in the past. We appreciate your feedback and realise that this is unacceptable. We have therefore chosen to hire a whole new team of Security Staff who will be available out of office hours to help you with anything you need. We have also made them aware of past behaviour that we deem unacceptable in order to prevent these situations from happening again. If you would like to discuss anything you have mentioned further our inbox is always open (benedictsgate@thisisfresh.com) and you are always welcome to visit Reception during office hours to have a chat with either myself or one of the team. - Sophie
Everything is exactly how it was advertised on the website. Possibly the best location to live in Norwich, nothing is more than a short walk away. Staff are incredibly friendly and I'll definately be staying next year !
Hi there! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on Benedict's Gate. We're so pleased to hear that you think we're in the best location. We are indeed only a 10 minute walk to the city centre, a 9 minute walk to NUA and a 27 minute bus ride to UEA, so nothing is too far away at all! We're also really glad to hear that you think our staff are friendly. The Residents' Team truly want to make you feel at home during your stay. We pride ourselves on engaging with our students and coming up with fun things to do through our BeProgramme. We looking forward to having you stay with us next year! - Thanks so much, Sophie
Even if there were some hiccups at the beginning of my stay at the accommodation the management managed to sort every issue and still provide a welcoming experience with online events to take part in even with restrictions in place. The location is absolutely amazing with amazing wifi and a lovely looking building.
Hi Strolio! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on Benedict’s Gate. As a brand new building in September we did encounter some teething problems during the first few months, which is normal for a new build. We're very thankful for your patience and we're glad that we could resolve any problems you had without it affecting your exciting uni life experience! We are very lucky to be situated just a 10 minute walk away from the city centre which which means we're never too far from anything. We're glad you love your wifi at Benedict's Gate, it's managed by ASK4 who provide an excellent service in which you can register up to 5 devices! We're also proud to look exactly like our profile pic, no catfishing here! All of the photos found on our website (freshstudentliving.co.uk) accurately depict Benedict's Gate in all its glory. If you would like to see more pictures of Benedict's Gate or what goes on here check out @benedictsgate_ on Instagram, thanks! - Sophie
Really enjoyed my time here, brilliant staff keep the place alive with fun social events and chats. The whole building looks/ feels lovely that you forget you're at the centre of the city. Only a couple minutes to NUA and the main city area. Strongly recommend if you are looking for a fun, relaxing place to stay whilst studying.
Hi there! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on Benedict’s Gate. We're so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay here and that our wonderful staff made it an entertaining time for you! We love to host social events and we’re excited to start hosting more of them in person for September. We are still very new and sparkly and we have a cleaner on site every morning to help keep it that way. We are about a 10 minute walk away to NUA or the city centre so if you need to grab a snack, your weekly shop or a cuddly toy you can make a start in under 15 minutes! We do have some great places to relax at Benedict’s Gate. Our lounge area within our Social Space has large comfy seating, a coffee machine, vending machine, TV, PlayStation 4 and record player. We’ve even got a few classic board games too! We’re always looking for suggestions or ideas you may have to make Benedict’s Gate even better so feel free to drop us a DM on Instagram @benedictsgate_ to let us know. - Sophie
