It’s a little expensive, but I didn’t have any major problems whilst living there. The desk was massive which was great but the lovely prison walls were a little thin so you would hear when your flatmates had pres in the flat or if your neighbour was on the phone at 3am. There was no laundry room in Pankhurst, so you would have to walk over to Cobden and use theirs. Two washers and dryers between ~100 people wasn’t ideal but I would check the circuit laundry app beforehand to check if a machine was available before walking all the way down. There were loads of pizza nights during the year which was amazing, and the bar across in St Anselm was also great and cheap. After freshers it stayed open a couple of days a week. Canterbury is about a 20 minute walk from campus or you could get the 50 bus from right outside the building which runs regularly.

Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
Canterbury Court was expensive when I lived there three years ago, and it's only gotten MORE expensive! UOM students are constantly campaigning for rent caps and rent freezes because so much of the student accommodation offered is massively overpriced for what you get. I had a single bed, a tiny shower en-suite, a kitchen I shared with nine people, and a single washing machine to share with the entire apartment block (and it cost a fortune to wash and dry your clothes!!) - paid £514 a month!
Took 2 years to fix a silverfish problem

Lived here in my first year of university (2019-20). I got lucky and had a good flat in burgess block but not everyone had the same experience and some begged to move out. If you want the 'uni experience' i dont recommend this accommodation, just go to fallowfield it isnt as far as it looks from the uni. Pros- close enough to both unis to walk, it is in a nice area and very quite, burgess block has a communal area where you can play pool and watch movies or pre etc Cons- The wifi is awful, very old fashioned (not worth £145 per week), rooms are small, regular noise complaints which can result in fines, not very social compared to fallowfield accommodation, not many houseparties
DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Last year when I found out this was my accommodation, I looked at the reviews & saw that someone had written “it has the atmosphere of a concentration camp”. My family assured me that this would have been an overreaction by someone who hadn’t enjoyed themselves & I would be fine. After having lived there for a year, I can honestly say their statement was spot on, infact there was probably more laughs in a concentration camp than in Canterbury Court. DO NOT MAKE MY MISTAKE- dont be deceived by the close location to uni and the ensuite bathroom it is not worth it, go to Fallowfield instead. Canterbury Court is a place where souls come to die. There is nothing positive I could say about this accommodation other than due to the 0 social interactions that take place there, you don’t get kept up at night by flat parties. If you're a normal person who likes socialising, going out & plans on having friends at uni DO NOT LIVE HERE. P.S. Human faeces came out my taps once.
There are not enough words in the english language to describe just how sh*t my experience of Canterbury was. If you value your time and money, do not live here. You will have very dodgy wifi and no signal, at all. Your social life will die along with your will to live in. If you are wanting to meet new people and go out for nights out in manchester, you will be much better off in fallowfield, as Canterbury has people with the social skills of a wet flannel. To top all this off, despite the maintenance man being lovely and will fix your problem once hes been advised to, you will go days with out hot water (which sharon doesnt think is an urgent problem), an issue they cannot fix straight away from "the CO emissions" that is located next to the boiler. However, the silver lining to this f*ck awful excuse of a uni hall, is that the location is quite good. You have a 20 min walk from main campus, and 35 from north campus. Also the cleaners are lovely. Dont make the mistakes I did. Go fa

Wi-fi's s*** but at least we got sofas innit
Its an overpriced prison cell. I wouldn't recommend you would be much better off getting a house share as it will be cheaper and you will have a better year of your life. Room is tiny, cleaner fines us most weeks for an overflowing bin (eg pizza box is on the top = £10). Flat gatherings get shut down by RA (reslife advisors) who are very nice but like a bit of quiet. Cleaner does do her job however must love the extra cash on fining us for eg two pots in a sink bearing in mind there are 10 people to a medium kitchen. You will have kitchen problems things going missing and being used and there will be a person reporting everything from noise in the kitchen to a pasta jar going missing and then there will be a formal meeting with fellow adults discussing a pasta jar (try not to laugh). The bar is cheep however the type of people that live at seems heavily populate this bar and they are the type to have never socially integrated before and their mummies and daddies pay for it - don't ge
PROS -close to uni and fallowfield -v.cheap (but s***) student bar -cleaners are f****** top class shoutsout Mary -small quiet library CONS -expensive for what you actually get -depressing kitchen/common room area -VERY UNSOCIABLE HALLS -invasive res life, not allowed to have flat parties although other halls seem to get away with it -res life seem to find any excuse to fine people ridiculous amounts of money for very minor things WATCH OUT PLS -shower broke 3 times -grim prison walls -old -kinda far to the nearest supermarket and difficult to get there on the bus as it is a bit of a walk from the main road -right next to st anselm halls really trying to be objective here and find some more pros but it is honestly just a depressing place to live.
This was a total nightmare. Horrible staff (reslife). They will fine you for the most minimal stuff- be warned a noise complaint sets you back £500. Very unsociable place to live as people are seemingly afraid to talk to each other.
Nobody speaks in Canterbury Court, it has the atmosphere of a concentration camp. I got fined $550 for dropping the iron on the sofa and leaving a burn mark on it. The sofas are probably worth about $70. The Res-Life Advisers will try and use any excuse to take your money and when you actually need help they don't do anything. Even if you are unsociable and like your own space i would advise you not to come here. 15-20 mins walk to the nearest grocery shop and there is no way to get there by bus... To get into uni you might as well walk (about 30mins) because by the time you get to the bus stop your more than half way there anyway. Yes, it takes 15 minutes to walk to the bus stop and it rains a lot. I honestly cant think of any positives for this hall sorry.

If you like living with robots, goths and mutes these are the halls for you. Enjoy.
If you are in any way social, do not apply for these halls. I regret not living in fallowfield so much. I'm not even that outgoing but this place is beyond a joke! Nobody speaks to eachother, and it's in the middle of nowhere. I also got fined for things I didn't do!
Cleaners don't seem to do much, location is probably the worst at the uni, so far from food shops but buses are frequent to uni.
Worth coming here for the social life alone, the bar downstairs is brilliant and the small community means everyone knows each other
Quite old, not really worth what we pay for, but the location is good and it has 2 hall bars which usually have some event going on.
Amazing location near to uni, great socials organised by St Anslems and near to Anrwerp Mansion
Upon arrival there was no hot water for 3 days and then inconsistently for another 2. The mattress is very very hard and comfortable and has cause many restless nights.
Bit expensive for what you get but still nice rooms.
This accommodation is in a really great location being not too far away from uni making it only a 20 minute walk away. However the halls could use a bit of updating as they're quite old fashioned. The rooms are perfect size, for me personally, however the communal area is a little small (especially if there's 10 people all wanting to use it at the same time). There aren't any sofas and that is a bit of a downside as the chairs that are there in place are awkward to sit on and aren't really all that comfortable. Despite this though I have really enjoyed living here in Canterbury court, it has been a friendly and social environment.
