Good value for money and a great location, plus security is good

If you’re looking for a busy social life, then Cambridge Halls is great for you. The location is also brilliant, and it is really close to Manchester School of Art, the library and also an easy 10-15 minute walk into the centre of the city. A basic but comfortable living space that is the cheapest on offer.
Lairiest halls most fun ((: Don't go if you want quiet
Very sociable, not that clean but good fun living away from home
My accommodation is near the University but you could find better ones. It is not as good as they say. No proper maintainence, no proper services. Even emergency services takes days to lodge the complaint

Don’t be put off by shared bathroom as you get used to it quickly! Rooms are actually really cosy and the social experience is the best
I had an amazing time at these halls. I was in one of the smaller flats, sharing with just 3 others but it’s a very sociable area so we made friends with lots of other flats. Cambridge is right on Oxford road and very close to all the uni buildings. Doesn’t take long to walk into town and it’s close to the clubs. The only downside of these halls is there is no sofas, but we managed without just fine.
I've heard the accommodations which the university provides are really good and affordable for students and they're helpful for whatever you need.
Good halls in a great spot easy to access university
Thank you for your comment. the location of the University campus with the halls and the Faculty buildings being so so close to the city, makes it excellent for student life.
I used to live there before I was transferred to Oxford Court. In general I have to say that Wifi is really bad and it is very expensive for its facilities. If you are not a party person dont prefer it as the chances that you will have noisy flatmates are 99%!. Flatmates will bring unkown drunk people in (without any consequence). Every day you will hear the fire alarm and doors closing/opening. Also it is really dirty as cleaner do not come that often. 10 students live together in the same flat and this is the main disadvantage for me. I would not suggest it (except if you like partying every day) as you will not be able to rest (or even to cook!) during the week. If you would like a cheap student accommodation then look for a private one with the same facilities (like a shared bathroom but with fewer flatmates).
Cambridge halls was an amazing location where I met many of my long term friends. My only quarrel with the accommodation is that the large flats led our group to socialise less with other nearby flats.

Basic halls with the most going on
Great overall experience in Cambridge Halls. 24 hour security and staff who are all very friendly, offer great services like key drop offs for nights out. For the price, the room is nice and can be made very cosy. The kitchen space is huge - you can fit all 10 people around the table. The showers can be a bit too hot / too cold, but overall all the facilities are good and any problems get solved fairly quickly by staff. If you don’t mind stairs (there’s no lifts), I’d recommend the third floor as it can be quite noisy outside in the evenings as there’s a public path through the main courtyard and the halls courtyard is always busy too.

Great location, fairly cheap, the Wifi is awful unless you pay for an upgrade then it’s a lot better. In Cavendish there is lots of social rooms to access but there isn’t in ours.
Big flats but good for the cheapest one
I chose here for my first year because it was the cheapest and closest and i’m pretty much glad i did. Security/Reception is 24 hour and right outside Cambridge North and they’re all really friendly. Cleaners come once a week and ours always did a good job. If you’re happy in a little box room you’ll be happy with your room at Cambridge. I made mine my own by adding posters and fairy lights. Living with 9 other people is fun, always in the kitchen having a laugh. Only negative things are the showers, one is a bit too hot and one is a bit too cold but you can live with it. Toilets aren’t the nicest but that’s only because they’re basic. If you have clean flatmates then it’ll be fine! Cambridge is definitely up there for the social side of uni. During Freshers week it was a bit tooo noisy but obviously that dies down. If you’re looking for something quieter go further away. If you’re looking for something pretty much the same but more modern then go for Cavendish. Overall, i LOVED cambr.
If someone says ‘security are irritating’, in all likelihood it’s probably because they themselves were not decent people. Security and management have always been sound people in my experience. As long as you don’t smoke in the kitchen or light a joint in their face, you’ll be fine. Never should you limit yourself to the people within your flat, but it is important to try and get on with them as they will influence your halls experience. The ‘you won’t like everyone’ phrase I was told so often prior to starting in Manchester however was simply not true in my case. Though it is largely luck of the draw who you end up with, being in a flat of ten increases the likelihood of getting on with someone. Conversely, I am now living in a Cambridge North flat of 10 with the girl I’m dating and some of my best mates. Life’s pretty good with this and the burger van down the road. The only downside I can find with Cambridge Halls is the occasional noise but I find even that to be irregular.
Awful Uni accommodation, full of drug users and the University doesn't care. Usually a freshers accommodation and it shows. Great if you like a loud environment with security who seem to be on a power trip unless something actually happens. If there is an incident then security don't seem to bother too much. Manager is sarcastic and very rude when addressing issues and seems to pass of poor behaviour down to "that's part of student life." unfortunately I don't quite think that a student defecating on the kitchen floor is part of student life. The price for what you get is rather poor and you can find much better accommodation for the same price if you shop around. The rooms are the same size as prison cells with the same amenities.
Good halls to live in if you're wanting somewhere that is lively!! Cheapest halls the university has on offer but are still good quality
Very noisy at night, you will 100% be put with people who will not wash up so be prepared for a messy kitchen, especially living with 10 people. Stairwell always smells. But great for social people who like to make lots of friends from different flats. Always some form of flat party going on. Don't live on the bottom floor by the doors, they are very noisy. Also with bedrooms facing out to the courtyard they can get very noisy from 10pm - 4am. Extremely close to MMU.
It's the cheapest of the MMU accom but I'd say for what you get it is expensive. Kitchen is always filthy, even when the surfaces are clear they don't get cleaned. Shower is horrible and sharing a bathroom was never something that would have bothered me. Gets clogged with hair and really grimy, say they get cleaned twice a week but ours must have been done about twice every 3 months! The common room is literally a kitchen dining table which makes it more difficult to chill with your flatmates like I know other flats do because it's so uncomfortable you all just go in your own rooms. If you're looking for cheapness I'd go Daisy Bank because you get a lounge with sofa and an ensuite and the distance you have to travel is a small consolation. But, if you can afford it go Briarfields or Birley because in my opinion it's worth the extra £15-£20 a week. The main reason I was attracted to this accom was the "party" factor but the other halls from what I've heard go for it just as much.
Wifi is non existent, really expensive, hall management are awful, rude and try to scam you out of money through fines, cleaning is terrible and cleaner always refuses to clean because 'too messy', no common room or social spaces just a dirty kitchen, social experience is shocking as not allowed to have people stay round, used to be party halls but not anymore due to unnecessary security making you feel like you are unwelcome in your own flat which you are paying ridiculous amounts for, spoken to like a child by security, fined for everything you do, tried to fine me £50 for my room key when I left it in my room as it 'wasn't there' but I was the last one to move out and it definitely was there. Really wouldn't choose these halls, victoria halls seem a lot better as nice living area and not rude and annoying security on your case all the time.
STRICTEST HALLS EVER! If you are someone who likes drinking, socialising or partying within reason, do NOT go to these halls. These halls in the past have got a reputation for having a very social atmosphere which is a good thing if your looking for that sort of thing at uni. Whilst they may have lived up to that reputation in recent years, they are anything but now and very, very strict. After a night out, you'll be expected to go straight to bed, they will do routine checks in the kitchen area and if your playing music and drinking they'll be taking your ID number, accusing you of smoking, noise pollution etc with zero evidence and then issue you a fine. Just about making money of you rather than ensuring you have the best possible experience. Some staff almost get a kick out of doing routine checks and issuing fines. They will shut down any party or gathering very quickly. Me and two of my flat mates were quietly drinking one night and they came in and told us to get to bed.
Do not apply to these halls they are the worst in Manchester they had a name before for party halls but now there is so much security that if you have music up to load you will get a £50 fine there are people at the end of this year coming out with £900 fines its s***
Pros: location is super close to lectures and center Cons: literally everything else - it is a complete s*******

Security are unnecessarily strict. They come into your flats unannounced and go through your belongings. You're no longer allowed parties and just generally poor
Hall management are awful. You're treated like a child. Wouldn't recommend living here if you like to have a bit of freedom. Security checks in your rooms etc, massive invasion of privacy. Plus, we as a flat decided we hated the curtains (they were very old and horrid to look at) so we took them down and stored them in the store room. We were told to put them back up or we would be fined, like I said, treated like a child.

Really good social halls, you can't not make friends here with 3 flats a floor, 4 floors and 10 people in each flat. The internet is s*** and security are trying to tone down the "party halls" atmosphere.
If you want sleep, don't go here

The social experience in halls was great space was very limited and wifi was god awful flats where all very dirty and are flat had a mouse problem for about 2 to 3 mouths
Fun for partying. Don't live here if u like sleep and don't like alcohol.
security were a bit annoying cleaners were f*cking rude! (In my flats but in my mates they were lovely and always cleaned their flat even when it was in a state) good craic though
The halls was very basic however was the ultimate social experiance. It's next to uni and a 5 min walk from many great clubs!
Amazing halls for socialising and amazing location, had a fantastic first year! Some time the cleaners wouldn't come, only fault!

The best way to start uni at mmu is in cambridge halls! Dont let the non ensuite situation put you off its really not that bad and better for flat parties. Cambridge halls is where the party starts, because the flat sizes are usually 10 people you make plenty of friends in your flat and the surrounding flats. I have made some of my best friend from cambridge halls. There is a friendly atmosphere, it is secure with 24hr security guards and it one of the cheaper options for mmu students.
