Some students choose to stay during the academic year, whilst others – particularly international students – require a tenancy that covers the entire year. You can also find student accommodation that is available for one or two terms, classified as a “short stay” on our search filters.
This is totally up to you! Catered accommodation means you will be served meals at set times in a dining hall, and you’ll likely have access to fewer kitchen facilities than if you were to stay in self-catered accommodation.
A guarantor is a person who signs a contract to agree to pay your rent if you are unable to. Most university accommodation requires a guarantor, and this applies to both domestic and international students.
Most likely, yes, you’ll need to pay a deposit. This will be refunded at the end of your stay as long as there is no damage to the room or property.
If you are staying in university-run accommodation or private halls, your rent should include any utilities such as electricity, gas, water, and internet. Students are not required to pay council tax, however you may need to fill in an exemption form so make sure you check with your local council.
Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) are residential buildings designed for students. They are often located close to campus, boast modern facilities, include all bills, and often have staff on site to assist residents.
Student accommodation is typically fully furnished. Your room should include at least a bed, clothes storage, desk and chair. You’ll likely need to bring things such as bedding and kitchen utensils, but we have a full list here of everything you’ll need.
The accommodation itself is good quality however I would argue that for the cost I would have liked a larger bathroom space and more room in the kitchen in terms of fridge and freezer space, and the location can be inconvenient as it at the top of a hill so is a regular pain
Very comfortable and quiet! Neighbours are nice and is very close to the high street
A pretty area but the hill is a definite deterrent.
really nice accommodation but up a massive ******* hill
St Marys village has everything students could want. Big rooms, double beds, ample social spaces - its all here. Not to mention it has great veiws (with the caviar of having to walk up a big hill however)
In a beautiful secluded location, st Mary’s is perfect for the studious and relaxed student. There is always something to fill your spare time and equally satisfying plenty of spaces to study quietly. Only issue - the mega hill to walk up to get home!
It is a good option, especially in your first year. It is on a hill, which is a bit of a steep walk. The maintenance team is very speedy and responds quickly to requests. It tends to be quiet and noise from Bangor is barely heard. Internet tends to be good. Lots of activities, trips, and social opportunities.

The woman managing it is mean and yells at you for trying to play frisbee (outside)
Great accommodation but far away and up a big hill
Stayed for two years, very well maintained, on site gym, shop and laundrette as well as study rooms and social spaces. Prompt maintenance and regular cleaning services
"Clean, cozy room with great view!
St Mary's Quad in Bangor is a fantastic student apartment complex that offers comfortable and convenient living for students. As someone who has had the pleasure of living and reviewing this complex, I can confidently say that it's a great place for students to live during their academic years.Overall, I would highly recommend At Mary's Quad to any student looking for a comfortable and convenient living space in Bangor.
There's always something going on at ffridd site. Friendly and lively campus life staff
Best accommodation all facilities are available
St Mary’s village is a good campus very nice and modern
Property management is really good here, you request help and its there either the same day or not very long after. Cleaning is generally always really good! It's a quieter HoR but its nicer if you don't mind that. Personally never had any unreasonable or regular issues with wifi its always pretty good.
Do not stay here unless you want to constantly hear the screeching of peacocks at all hours of day and night. The university do not do anything about it. The whole place has gone downhill since lockdown and I think they have forgotten that there is quite a lot of student still living here.
Halls are in general pretty nice, experience depends on who you live with, but there is no forgetting ahout that hill
Decent halls. Much higher quality than Friff but the campus life aspect was never my thing.
